  • Revelation 20:11-15 "And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."
    (Copied from cyberhymnal.org) Words: Bertram H. Shadduck, 1894. Music: Lycurgus L. Pickett
    I dreamed that the great judgment morning
    Had dawned, and the trumpet had blown;
    I dreamed that the nations had gathered
    To judgment before the white throne;
    From the throne came a bright shining angel,
    And he stood on the land and the sea,
    And he swore with his hand raised to Heaven,
    That time was no longer to be.
    Refrain
    And O, what a weeping and wailing,
    As the lost were told of their fate;
    They cried for the rocks and the mountains,
    They prayed, but their prayer was too late.
    The rich man was there, but his money
    Had melted and vanished away;
    A pauper he stood in the judgment,
    His debts were too heavy to pay;
    The great man was there, but his greatness,
    When death came, was left far behind!
    The angel that opened the records,
    Not a trace of his greatness could find.
    Refrain
    The widow was there with the orphans,
    God heard and remembered their cries;
    No sorrow in Heaven forever,
    God wiped all the tears from their eyes;
    The gambler was there and the drunkard,
    And the man that had sold them the drink,
    With the people who gave him the license,
    Together in hell they did sink.
    Refrain
    The moral man came to the judgment,
    But self righteous rags would not do;
    The men who had crucified Jesus
    Had passed off as moral men, too;
    The soul that had put off salvation,
    “Not tonight; I’ll get saved by and by,
    No time now to think of religion!”
    At last they had found time to die.
    Refrain

    Thank you so much for posting this recording and this version of the song. You have a beautiful voice. My dad recently passed away. His gift was also his voice and he used it to serve the Lord whenever asked. He frequently sang this song in church and it was my favorite. While I always loved watching Daddy sing, I usually didn’t watch him when he sang this one. I would watch the congregation which consisted mostly of believers but I could always pick out the ones who were not believers by their movements of discomfort, looks of fear, or faces void of any expression. At the end of the song, I would bow my head and pray for those people knowing that my dad had planted the seed and that the Lord would take it from there. Sadly my dad retired from public singing before technology allowed for easy recording and by the time I had the technology, dementia had taken away his ability to speak or sing words. So I thank you for your recording which comforts me and brings back memories of the wonderful man who “trained me up in the way I should go.”
    Keep planting those seeds!

    Who is singing? And is the Music the Hymnal music or is it a special arrangement ?
