I like how the snare sounds, despite what a bunch of people are saying. I like how it sounds unique without sounding like an empty biscuit tin :) It reminds me of the snare sound on Weezer's 'Getchoo'. Well played, sir.
The overall volume of this kit is very similar to a regular set - maybe slightly lower actually but not much. If someone is really concerned about keeping volume to a minimum then an electronic kit is probably the better choice.
Back when electronic drums were common a friend played in a band where the drum set was a kick trigger, a pretty normal snare, and several roto toms: the rack of three that you can still find a rack of two larger ones, and a still larger single one as the floor tom. It worked better than you'd think. He had a BUNCH of cymbals, though. It was the quickest drum set to tear down for transport that I've ever seen.
monotone voice: anyway im going to give you a demonstration of what the kit sounds like..... then just blasts out into an amaizing track! damn dude! 10 of 10!
hahaha yeah you're like the nicest guy talking and suddenly you play like a mad man, and then you start talking with that politeness again. you're the best.
Thanks very much. These drums do have amazing sound for not even having shells. It does show just how much of the sound is really in the heads. Oh, I'm selling these cheap on eBay (minus the cymbals) as I just got a portable DW bopkit. Have a great day!
As far as cheap electronic drums, I would go with either Roland TD-6 or Yamaha DTX III (I've had them both). You can get them both around $700 on eBay (close to the same price as these). The electronic sets are good because they are silent if you want. These Traps drums are a lot of fun and are much more like the real thing though. As good as they sound, they aren't quite like a high-end shell kit. Very good for practice and portability. Hope that helps.
I only changed the batter head to the eMad. I also experiemented with changing the tom heads to remo coated ambassador heads but ended up going back to the pinstripes that come with the set. Hope this helps.
Thank you very much. I try to tune everything as low as I possibly can - just before the heads wrinkle basically. I tried ambassador coated heads on these but the pinstripes (come with the set) are better. I did end up putting an Evans EMAD on the bass which did make a nice difference.
Oh boy. I was VERY skeptical at first when you went slowly around the kit but the second you started doing triplets and shit.... just.... that's a dirty sounding little kit and I love it
Hello. I also struggle with the bass drum on this set. I just put an Evans EMAD batter head on it which definitely helped a lot. I also keep it tuned as low as possible. I will record and post it again with the EMAD head so you can hear the difference.
Hello everyone and thanks very much for watching this video. The cymbals used for this demo were Zildjian Avedis Armand series that come as a stock set.
This guy is awsome I wish I could afford drums after my accident I had to stop playing drums I miss them so bad had to sell mine to help towards but now I can almost move my foot again I wish I had a drumset
I typically muffle the bottom drum head with some tape and folded paper towel and then put a piece of tape around the snare strainer in the middle to give it a more controlled snare sound and cut down on the snare buzz. This is just a personal preference and I play around with this a lot to get the sound I like.
I think this was great playing with very different drums. They sounded way better than I expected, though with no sing, only a bunch of attack. As someone wrote earlier I prefer regular acustic drum, but those had been fun to own!
thanks for posting this video dude, i'm thinking about looking into one of these kits. i like the low tuning of the toms there, doesn't have that really obnoxious "standing out" quality of higher tunings. have to say, your drum fills are great! :D
You are correct. If you closed your eyes while playing, it would sound like a regular kit - although not the same quality as a DW or other high-end kits. In my opinion, the biggest problem is lack of depth in the kick drum. The toms and snare are easy to tune and to make sound good. Overall, it is fun to play on for practice purposes and very easy to transport.
It depends on what sound you like. They are a high quality cymbal and have a more traditional sound from back in the 70s. It really just depends on what style you are looking for.
I think the best use for them is home practice and for portable transport for band practice, etc.. I don't think many drummers would use them for a live gig, although I suppose it is possible. I can honestly say that they are way better in sound quality than the low end shell drum sets on the market today. These don't have the quality of a high end set but I don't think are really intended to. I have a DW set and roland TD-20 electronic kit and I wasn't unhappy with these.
@AcmeLink Thanks for the kind words. I started playing early in life and then stopped for 25+ years when life got busy. I've just gotten back into it as my wife volunteered me to play in a church production - and needless to say, I am very rusty. I could sure use some lessons though - but there isn't a drum teacher up here in the mountains of New Hampshire.
I also like the floor tom but all the drums are surprisingly good for what they are. The best part is that you can literally pick up the set (after removing the cymbals), throw it in the back of your car and be ready to play in minutes without all of the usual setup hassels of a regular kit. That's the best part I think.
Hello. It is a modification of a paradidle groove. I started with a basic paradiddle and I threw in extra beats now and then to expand the base - just made it up on the fly basically. I had no real plan when I made this video and I just did whatever I could think of at the moment.
Thanks much. I actually thought it was a pretty rough demo as I really didn't have any plan other than demo the set (although I never really have any plan while playing by myself). I am going to post a demo of my new DW kit when I get a chance to do it. Cheers!
Thanks for the comment. It's all a matter of personal preference. Most people probably couldn't tell much of a difference if they were blind folded and had this sitting next to a mid-level stock kit. I think the whole set is good for what you pay and the portability of it. Kind of like a set of roto toms configured like a regular kit that you can carry and move as one unit.
yea i put some tape on the front head and it sound perfect i put tape on my toms and my ride too ands now it sounds exacly like i want its perfect thx a lot...cheers
They are similar to roto toms actually. The difference is basically that they are all contained in a rack that puts them in front of you like a tradition 5-piece drumset that you can pick up and put in the back of your car for great portability. They are clearly not designed to take the place of a good quality regular drum set. I must say that they do sound much better than many of the low end wood kits I've played or heard though.
Hello. I think I would go with the kit with E-pads (although I haven't tried them myself) if they are similar in cost. You can't beat e-drums for silent practice and that is a perfect setpup for apartment life if you want to keep the peace with your neighbors. I have a Roland TD-9 for that purpose and you can absolutely practice just as well as you can on an acoustic set. One advantage of a full electronic kit is that the cymbals can also be silent and can be recorded for lo-fi stuff easily.
This type of set can be bought on eBay new for around $599 - and VERY easy to transport, throw in the car, etc. They can sometimes be purchased cheaper when someone is selling one used. The setup comes with cheap cymbals that you may wish to switch out for your choice of cymbals. Best of luck!
Your fill from 1:01 to 1:10 gives my life some meaning.
Thanks very much for the kind words. Playing the drums is one of the most fun things we do in life!
I like how the snare sounds, despite what a bunch of people are saying. I like how it sounds unique without sounding like an empty biscuit tin :) It reminds me of the snare sound on Weezer's 'Getchoo'. Well played, sir.
Thanks very much but I'm really humbled by all the awesome talent I see searching through youtube. Have a great day!
The overall volume of this kit is very similar to a regular set - maybe slightly lower actually but not much. If someone is really concerned about keeping volume to a minimum then an electronic kit is probably the better choice.
You're right. It is hard to believe that drum heads without shells would have this kind of sound. Roto toms are also a bit amazing in that regard.

Dude, you owned those drums!
monotone voice: anyway im going to give you a demonstration of what the kit sounds like.....

Sweet drumming man!
I always thought that those kits were rubbish but when you here them played like that, they sound great!
Great job!
Christ! That was amazing speed and accuracy. We are not worthy!
That was awesome playing!
Props on your drumming man, this is amazing!
Excellent drumming and a nice introduction to the Traps set!
Thanks very much. These drums do have amazing sound for not even having shells. It does show just how much of the sound is really in the heads. Oh, I'm selling these cheap on eBay (minus the cymbals) as I just got a portable DW bopkit. Have a great day!
excellent playing! the kit sounds damn good for literally only being half a whole set
Unbelievable. Very nice.
Thanks much! Been playing off and on since I was a kid - mostly on the car sterring wheel...

RESPECT, your drum solo rocks !!
Nice work. Watched it twice!

Loved this vid! Just heard of those Traps sets today, I think they sound awesome. Great job!
Thank you very much and have a great day!!
sick drum grooves man!
Nice to have an easy to maneuver kit. Sounds pretty good. You had some quickness goin on.
Thank you very much. I try to tune everything as low as I possibly can - just before the heads wrinkle basically. I tried ambassador coated heads on these but the pinstripes (come with the set) are better. I did end up putting an Evans EMAD on the bass which did make a nice difference.
Oh boy. I was VERY skeptical at first when you went slowly around the kit but the second you started doing triplets and shit.... just.... that's a dirty sounding little kit and I love it
Thanks Kalven. It is a great little kit to travel around with and has decent tone for what it is.
Great demo. Always wanted to hear those
Thanks very much. They are fun to play and very easy to set up and transport. Great for practice, etc.
Sod the haters. Great handspeed technique. 💪
Bruce Lee like speed around that kit, wow
They look sick 💪🏻🤘🏻

Kemp Schanlaber that’s ok man 👍🏻

Thanks for the cymbal idea - I'll play around with it.
amazing druming! :D
Dang you are really good!
Groovin. I just put some cash towrds a used traps kit :)
Im exited to get it!
Aaaand i got one! love it! Proud owner!
Thank you very much. You're right about the sound, if you close your eyes the sound is very similar to a regular kit. Have a good one!
Thanks. Zildjian Armands are a good brand of cymbal for sure - have a classic sound without tons of volume. I like the A-customs a lot too.
Dude awesome drumming!!! Those drums don't sound half bad...
Hello. I also struggle with the bass drum on this set. I just put an Evans EMAD batter head on it which definitely helped a lot. I also keep it tuned as low as possible. I will record and post it again with the EMAD head so you can hear the difference.

Thats some singles! Awesome!
I feel the same way when I see some of the drum stuff on this website.
Great to hear from you Roger! We're doing ok for being in our 70s aren't we??

Jesus calm down, the young bull, old bull story springs to mind here..
Too much coffee...
Thanks much. I actually thought it was a pretty rough demo as I really didn't have any plan other than demo the set (although I never really have any plan while playing by myself). I am going to post a demo of my new DW kit when I get a chance to do it. Cheers!
Thanks much - it's all in the camera!
Since you're using hot rods, I mostly just hear sticks clicking
Were you listening through a funnel?
Bet he plays better than you my man
Nice!
Thanks much!
Thank you.

thx a lot...cheers
@kjoinb Thanks much - my main kit is a DW kit that I absolutely love. I also have a Roland TD9 that is a blast to play.
