Here's a fact: for six seasons, they have been fending off walkers with guns. Really loud guns. And without ear protection of any sorts. In the long term, that can lead to serious hearing issues that might be the cause of why they can't hear walkers.

Their referencing Indiana Jones: the Crystal Skull. It has some funny scenes, but the movie as a whole is "eh" compared to the others.
This pretty much sums up how I feel about a lot of the zombie media in general. If you think about it most zombies can't really be major threats with the examples presented in this parody with a few exceptions. Especialy when compared to other monsters like kaiju and wendigeos that are MUCH worse.
I think part of it comes from the amount of them forming a shambling Horde.
How they gathered so many is a mystery when people call the police on the neighbors dog barking.
I mean, their only food is also their mayor predator... and also their oonly way to reproduction.
That species is doomed to fail

Personally I like to believe that zombies would actually be brain dead, but not dead. Mainly because the human body is actually legitimately terrifying when not restrained by the limitations our brain puts in place. There are cases of histerical strength leading to people lifting entire cars, something that we can't normally do because it completely shreds our muscles so our brain says 'no'. However if the brain isn't around to do that we can potentially push our body's to the point of ripping ourselves apart, which is what I like to believe zombies would be like, they could run at record speeds, accomplish ridiculous feats of strength, and the human jaw can actually bite with enough force to bite through bones, so they will tear themselves apart to achieve their goal (hence the idea that they are rotting). But that's my own personal take on them, I do agree that most media portays them in ways that don't make them very threatening

One thing that does bother me is in season one the zombies can open doors.
When rick is in the house with the black guy and his son the zombie mother walks up to the house and trys to open it, and you have the great seen of the door handle while he looks through the peephole
The zombies in season one where a lot smarter in general, they could climb fences, the child zombie even picks up toys and carrys them around
One could argue that since the zombies were more recently killed in season one they are more human and in later seasons they get slower and loose abilies as they wither

so true. I love the show but the fact they can't hear walkers creep up on them pisses me off. Walkers are stepping over branches and leaves and you're telling me you can't hear that. The mother fuckers aren't ninjas.

+Main_Man My wife is a big fan of the show, so I have followed it as well. Remember the scene late in season one, when Rick was in Atlanta? As I remember it, Rick rounded a corner and found an enormous horde of walkers standing around. After a few seconds of stunned silence as Rick and the crowd regarded each other, Rick turned to run away, and the entire horde sprinted after him with remarkable alertness and extreme coordination. I immediately thought, how can the undead beings move so fluidly, when before then they moved like... well, zombies?

The dead are not running, they just simply move as fast as torn ligaments and destroyed tissue will allow. Remember they have no sense of tired and become aggressive when the living are around.
3:29 to be fair, that's where they lose their case, if those zombies in The Walking Dead are driving by instinct, they're not going to change targets, just because someone else approached to them, the show itself makes that, a zombie's closer to bite someone, but, then another one does anything and the zombie prefers to go to fight or chase them, instead of doing what their nature tells them, eat meat, plus, sure, they're dumb and all, but, it doesn't mean they're going to hold your hand and walk next to you without attacking you (another thing TWD also does to "save the character"), as it happened in that scene from this video. Gotta say, my only complain about the show it's how they can easily kill the zombies with whatever they have in their hands, that's, of course, ignored in favour of the plot, like when their skulls even from a recent dead person, it's softer than fresh bread, in reality, that'll be more gory and complicated to do.
By the way, the human sects and groups that could exist in a post-apocalyptic world they'd probably be way, way darker and twisted than anything the TWD has shown ever.
