It is a superb box set and mine arrived earlier in the week and they fit in perfectly with Footsore Miniatures Barons Wars and looking forward to seeing the next sets. They are useful for so many different forces
There is very little difference regards armour and covers between 1150 and 1320 - the differences are basically helmets and shields. the curved top shields are earlier, the large heaters are middle of the era covered and the smaller heaters are for the later part.... I cant see the helmets in enough detail to comment, but the full 'pembroke' great helms are the second half of the era. The 'pick axes' are simply 'war picks' or 'beck de corbin'. With regards the Fireforge mounted knight, the great helms were often worn over skull-cap helmets, thus the larger herlmet is correct too.
Incase anyone is atill interested the helmets per sprue are: (12 in total) 1 bald bearded head 1 short haired bearded head 1 mail coif only 1 secret 2 great helms (and one under arm) 1 early great helm (Richard's seal style) 1 round top faceplate 1 flat topped face plate 1 flat topped nasal helm 2 different flat topped no nasal. Which is a nice spread until you realise its a tad awkward to pick 6 from for certain ranges the box is supposed to cover. Especially with 3 (to 4 depending on your tolerance for the secret as a basic bowl) heads missing a helm and only one not worn helm in the box (the ubderarm one).
@@AlanGChenery as someone who has reenacted the era I can say that, thankfully, the great helms were very easy to get on and off, I was often seen with my helm at my feet while taking a breather or a drink.... this kit does allow for that.
So not so much historical, but the Quar models (from Zombiesmith) that Wargames Atlantic are producing I believe DO come with bases... which is interesting... as I thought these might come with 25mm bases to match with the Baron's War game by Footsore... interesting... that said, WGA does now make their own bases... so depending on where you order from, might be able to grab bases. in theory.
Interesting, I wonder what the business arrangement is with both the Quar and Reptilian Overlords sets. Almost seems like the designers gave WGA the sculpts as part of some kind of royalty agreement, but got to maintain some degree of control over box contents/price point since they deviate from the normal pattern.
Definitely will be picking these up... curious to see more for this line from WGA and with Hicks & Hobday doing some "fantasy" Baron's war with Elves and Orcs, I wonder if we'll see some plastic Elves and more "classic fantasy" crossover too.

I agree the Fireforge heads tend to be too big but sometimes a bigger head looks bigger.i am keen to see how the newly releashed Victrix mounted knights compare size wise. I find Victrix tend to have some of the best horse minis out there.

I actually thought serjeanty specifically granted land in exchange for service (often non-military) as an option for non-nobles, though the land would be much smaller in area than a fief. Regardless, I’m very excited to see what WGA does in terms of equipment. Hoping for spears and pole arms, and a variety of armour types to potentially blend in with my Foot Knights.
I think there was a difference between France where land was granted in exchange for service. In England they tended to be the younger sons of families where there was only land for the eldest to inherit, so the younger sons would enter the church or take a 'military post'. Certainly the sons of landowners, perhaps not always sons of knights.

I am mostly a fantasy miniature skirmish game player (frostgrave, dungeon dives, etc.) & am looking for a templar type mini or kit (metal or plastic are fine -as long as they are close in size to my other citadel & frostgrave miniatures). I bought a sprue of these knights & found them to be too small for my collection. Any recommendations?
Cheers, as far as historical plastics go WGA is actually among the larger/more heroically proportioned. Fireforge and Perry both have boxes that could reasonably be used as Templars/Knights, both I found both to be smaller in scale, especially with regard to weapon sizes. I know Frostgrave has a Knight kit that looks like it might fit the bill, but I haven’t dealt with it. Is that box on your radar?

Not sure I’d call those Dane axes, actually. The shafts are too short, and while the axe heads certainly came in different shapes, they’re missing the long sloping of the top that you’d see in a quintessential Dane Axe (like you’d find in the Victrix Huscarl set, which I also highly recommend).
The shortage of large shields and focus on great helms (rather than more varied transitional faceplate helms), were a little bit of a disappointment. I really really like the kit. But for someone who's primarily interested in the build up to the first Baron's war, it's a frustrating prospect. Also, why two bald bare heads?
I had a lot of fun blending in heads from the Victrix Medieval Knight set for some added variety. I’ve no doubt their foot knight kit coming out this fall will add even more options to play with, and (given that it’s Victrix) will likely have a lot more options out of the gates.
Wargames Atlantic do fantastic figures but I would not recommend them to new hobbyists. They can be a real pain as quite often the pieces do not fit snug and if you are like me a real nerd you have to use green stuff and a lot of hobby knife work. Victorix and fire forge are a suitable substitute if you do not have the patience to assemble these.
its good to know the historical background. Oathmark has nice elves for fantasy gaming too, very nice sculpting and paint up nicely.

Yeah the are great. But they are a tiiiiny bit smaller than e.g. Perrys English Soliders Box. But in the Table it is not notable.

I just cut the Fireforge lances down pinch the end with flatnose pliers and cut a new lance head, works just fine.

A serjeant was a landless Knight in the employment of a Lord or institution, so a Knight, but maybe not so well equipped

WGA sells some separate bases, you should see on their site .

Victorix and fire forge are a suitable substitute if you do not have the patience to assemble these.
