The tech and or artist that actually faked the field of vision with continuing the model shape upward with an inverted normal shader is a masterfully clever dev. Simple solution like these show me that this game must be super robust, the easier the solution the least amount of bugs. Kudos to this team. If devs read this were you inspired by a game called Knight Squad by any chance ?
@haasva2637 the effect of the vision being obscured by a collumn for instance or a corner. Gamedev in general is smoke and mirror, but instead of using lights or computing complex view algo. Their context of camera (fully top down) allow for just using a box geometry to continue toward the camera upward and give that effect for free. all the blackness of the visible area is this little clever trick. If you look closely you'll see it, solving multiple potentiel complex issues with a simple couple hours techniques.
ugh... I'm playing _Blasphemous 2_ rn and I have the sinking feeling that you're talking about Blasphemous 2.. plz tell me you aren't? 4 is too many lol
Learning how to kick people hard enough that they start dropping money and clinking like they have their pockets full of change is now my new life purpose. Ty splatty!
Still reminds me so much of Devil Slayer Raksasi, just medieval instead of Japanese. The one thing that bugs me is the rising shadow effect shooting up from pillars and the side walls. I'd get rid of that and just show us the tops of the walls, especially since they already have depth.
I'd never heard of that game til someone on the steam discussion mentioned it, and now you too! I did read that its pretty difficult, would you describe it as pretty hard? I haven't made it through a run of this game yet, but it doesn't feel as souls-y (difficulty and aggression-wise) as what I've read/seen of Raksasi. Just wondering if Raksasi is more slow-paced or if you can just go ham like you can with this one.
@Red49er85 Good question. Now that you mention it, this does lean more towards hack n slash, whereas Raksasi does play slightly slower and more souls-like.
Thank you so much splatter. I loved the game, reminded me of Devil Slayer - Raksasi. I loved when you had the eletricity, like a bee from NB but you won't find it on YT. Thank you for continually educating in Gaming quality. Skills, choices and delivery. Tho I don't know if I could ever forgive Epic Games for not giving KOTOR 3. DEATH TO YOUR ENEMY.
This really reminds me of a game I used to play as a teenager. I don't know if it's giving me Diablo vibes or what but there was something I played as a teen that this is reminding me of
I don't think it was nox, something older and sword movement was almost exactly the same. When I was teenager..let's put it this way..been a gamer for hmm about 4 decades ;)
One of the most fun indy/arcade games I played this year. Really put together well. IMO a great starting point for a 4 player new-age Guanlet-style rouge-like.
I played a game exactly like this 3 years ago, it might have even been on your channel. The top down kinda rogue like game with cool equipment and weapons. I really enjoy these graphics too. The game i was talking about used the same exact graphics and view, was also a rogue like.
I've played Chilly Room's game before, from Soul Knight to Otherworldly Legends. This game feels like a natural evolution for them, I feel like. If one has played the other two, one would have a good intuition on what kind of logic the gameplay design is operating on.
I miss old-skool gauntlet now. Gauntlet 2 was peak multiplayer for me. Couldn't beat walking around a dungeon, mowing down endless waves of monsters with 2 other, different coloured versions of yourself. I used to love that game more than anything else. I've been playing into the necrovale and didn't think of it as gauntlet-like until now, and now I know why I play it so much, but it's still not quite there.
Me: I definitely have a play queue that is so thick with games that there’s no way I’m buying any new games anytime soon… Especially not an early access game. Also me: let’s see what Splatter Cat has going on today… Ooooo I want that!
Was writing that you should cover controller support, but you covered it while i was writing. good job. Many of us cant use keyboard and mouse confortably for varius reasons. Keep up the good work.
been playing since EA launch, and loving the diversity in the characters. I'll admit the non-melee characters feel tedious to play with, but I'm pretty happy with whats here so far!
My first thought when i watched the video then tried the demo. Love it. Top down look is a bit jarring although ive played Hotline Miami with similar topdown view.
I've played both games and Raksasi is much better. My first run I unlocked 3 other characters in raksasi, just didn't go further because I died twice trying to get my money back from the shop guy. In this game it took me an hour or so to unlock the second character, then another hour to unlock the third and they're all stiff and mostly boring to play
One week the titles are too click baitey, another week they're not click baitey enough. If you're not interested in the content, it doesn't matter how good the title is. I know I'll have a blast watching whatever Splat puts out, and if the title happens to be concise, so be it.
Can anyone name youtubers who review indie games that are at least 90 percent complete? I'm just sick of this fucking Early Access shit. It feels like you come to a restaurant, pay for lunch, then you sit down at a table and look at the garden outside the window, waiting for the vegetables to grow. From which devs "M I G H T S O M E D A Y" make soup for you, while you have to be content with a pretty picture of a restaurant menu
They could if indie games actually got out of early access lol. But this game in question is indeed 90% percent complete. There's no story, it's just a dungeon roguelite and all classes and almost all bosses are done

"There's something badass about whooping the change out of somebody's pockets..."
seriously, where's the supercut of all of splatters abso-frickin-amazing quotes??
"unleash the lady speaking latin"
why yes, i have fought a boss with four phases
ugh... I'm playing _Blasphemous 2_ rn and I have the sinking feeling that you're talking about Blasphemous 2..

This is why I enjoy watching splatter vids. All these games that I never knew existed that end up being my jam.
Agree
Big fan of the top down perspective, it's a nice change up from isometric!
Appreciate the heck out of your work making it easy for folks like me to “find what’s worthwhile”. Thanks, Splatt.
My first thought was that we're playing Arthas in Stratholm.
Love the armor, the big shield and sword, and the very motivated slashing.
> "Nobody got lit on fire, that's unfortunate."
I love the smell of screaming enemies in the morning.

Yup. I ve same feeling. Can't place it though..

@@Catz1987 dear god. That's it, just googled it, yup that's the game!!!
As a deck owner thanks for the heads up, downloading the demo now.
I was playing the steamdeck a few hours ago 😎👍

This is really good where you start with the game already playing

Devil Slayer: Raksasi? He did do a video on it 3-ish years ago as well.
@@TATK12 Thats the one, thank you. Its like, the same game from what i can tell. Which is totally ok!

Splattercat is the indie god.

Forgive my ignorance - what could stop you using a mouse and keyboard but still be fine with a controller? Genuinely drawing a blank.
Kinda reminds me of a old school game called 'Swords and Serpents'
Very impressive Art style on this one. Pleasing to watch be played. ;)
been playing since EA launch, and loving the diversity in the characters. I'll admit the non-melee characters feel tedious to play with, but I'm pretty happy with whats here so far!
Top down old school Gauntlet vibes…looks good
Adding to the algorithm! Noice work splat!
ooo the style looks excellent
ok this actually looks good
I like the nerd castle
Reminds me a bit of Pocket Rogues
Loved it since the demo. A roguelite Gauntlet love letter.
My first thought when i watched the video then tried the demo. Love it. Top down look is a bit jarring although ive played Hotline Miami with similar topdown view.
Are you saying that I'm old, slow and don't have the reflexes to play a lot of the games out there?...Cause that would be accurate.
I might pick this one up, already downloaded the demo.
All I heard was something about popping prematurely and not caring.
Into the Eagle's Nest, C-64
Looks fun!
i like how you enter the dungeon in full plate complete with a cape but have a shitty wooden sword and bare shield
did splat not make a stream about this game ? I wanted to see how the charachters play
Thumbs up for Dynasty Warriors. :D
reminds me of _Devil Slayer Raksasi_
This game fun!
I'm a big fan of whooping the change out of somebody's pockets. In video games, not in real life, of course.
nice ty for finding another game for me lol
I just saw that Diluvian Winds is out of early access and got its 1.0, is that something you were thinking of covering? Cheers!
a Raksasi-like game...but more hack-n-slash
Thats the way she goes 😂😂😂
Simple game. Reminds me of that feeling.
....fiiiiinnnne.. ill try it
Alright so Reiksai demon slayer deserves a shout out. Way under rated game like this.
The game's name is Devil Slayer Raksasi lol, but yeah I was thinking the same thing
@@new-dk6vk lol you're right...I butchered that. Long day!
Does it work equally as well with keyboard +mouse and gamepad?
Gauntlet was top down
comment for the comment god!
I like the looks, but it seems kinda scuffed in when comes to animations/combat.
Im getting souls vibes from this,
Definitely Checking this out
hmm looks cool but a little bare bones?
Would try
Be nice if the other classes were shown instead of a whole video showing only one class.
Is it on Steam?
Smash T.V. too.
This game is a upgraded copy of mobile pocket rogues
Samurai's do use spears... Its the main weapon of a true samurai! Not the kitana.
iFrames?
No co-op?
It's not some alternative of Demon Slayer - Raksasi? Looks identical but without the waifu.. Eeeh.

Darkest Dungeon meets Diablo ... sweet.
Why Darkest Dungeon?

This game will be 50% better if it's 45 degrees view angle, instead of 90 degrees
3 months ago you had a video of the exact same game. Must be a dry spell in game development.
The A.I. seems horrible...Enemies just mill around until you slash them

annoying af constant screen flashing, nope.
