Everyone needs to stitch their project anyway that makes them happy and let everyone else in the world do the same. The question is why are they publicly putting someone down instead of encouraging? 🤔 I prefer backstitching with two strands for a bolder look (with a few exceptions) even when doing blackwork. However, I don't really do projects with backstitching any more. Love Bob Ross, happy little stitch here, happy little stitch there. The surprise excitement about your cute flower was great. Fun and informative video. Thanks.

I love plastic bobbins...except the new ones have too wide of slots to actually secure the floss. Cardboard bends over time, although cardboard is easier to write on. (Plastic can crack but its only happened to my 310 so far.)
I pull floss really strangely...i grab 2 strands and "twirl" (think jump rope) as I pull. It rarely tangles, but pulling 1 strand usually knots & kinks my floss up.
I use the hole on top to hold my extra floss (larks head knot) and wrap it with the rest of my floss.
I'm kinda like you on half stitch. Doing top leg direction messes with my brain, so unless specifically directed to, bottom leg direction all the time! Bottom leg 1 color & top another I can't recall coming across so i dont know how it would affect me.
Tip for blending filament. Do your stitches in the regular color, then half stitch the blending filament on top. It looks messy otherwise and the filament gets buried. You can try full crossing the filament on top, but that depends on how much you end up hating the filament.
For krenik braids, get an upholstery needle. The big eye makes threading it so much easier. The needle length is a bit unweildy, but it is so much nicer than fighting the braid into a regular needle.
As for knots, generally I reserve them for securing floss for french knots & beads.
And don't worry if you don't have all the fancy gizmos & gadgets. Are corner gauges handy? Perhaps, would I personally prefer a fabric count gauge? Yep (and yet I don't have one lol). Do i have a floss winder for bobbins? Absolutely. Do i have a cord maker? Nope. Do I have a few weird needles? Yep, they occasionally come in handy. I was given a tool that I have no idea how to use "stitchers best friend". I've watched videos and I just don't get it.
And a pair of scissors that are sharp & feel good in your hand are a must have. My favorite pair of durasharps (25+ years old) got bought out by fiskars (I found them about 10 years ago by fiskars), and just recently may have been discontinued. I've got about 6 pairs so I'll be good, but inside I'm crying.
And I agree to ignore some advice given. My aunt criticized my piece for not having a tidy enough back...I'd only sporadically been stitching at the time and the piece not being centered was a much bigger issue than the back. The back wasn't super tody, but it wasn't awful either. Math 3 times before you cut your fabric, and for kits always measure first and swap out the fabric if its tight for margin or if the piece would benefit from an evenweave vs the aida.

Great video Jen! Two questions for you. When you do a big full coverage project, do you still stitch in hand? Also, where did you get that clicker? I play cross stitch games too, but have been using old fashioned pencil and paper to track my stitches for patterns I don’t have in PK.

      Electronic Finger Counter,4-Pack... www.amazon.com/dp/B00JSJEPAA?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
That’s where I got the clicker! And I go back and forth between in hand stitching and working on a q snap, just depends on my mood
