Even after 2 years of making this content, no video on the internet can compare with this. I am extremely grateful to you Sir. God bless you
The best explanation of the diminished scale on the internet. Well done!!
Thank you!!! This, along with the byzantine scale, are probably my all time favorites.. and finding your excellent, complete and easy to follow videos, are exactly the update course I needed at this point in my musicianship. I'm starting to understand how they work, why they are so beautiful and haunting, and how it checks out delightfully with my growing up adoring King Crimson, Opeth, Steven Wilson, Meshuggah, among others. Magnificent 🤘❤🔥 (edit: I must say, the diminished tune playing behind the video is such a delight. not all dare thread the path of prolonged uncertainty. *Salute*
Also, you get major and minor triads out of the diminished scale. You can move those around up and down in minor thirds too.
Yes. A very good method!
Well that was the best explanation of the diminished world I have seen, will have to go through that with a pen, paper and guitar but brilliant. Thank you... subscribed!
Thanks!
I searched the internet and forums for years looking for something like this. This is seriously the best and most organized way to present this material. Thank you so much for making this!
Because being a good player doesn't mean being a good teacher
I've spent years looking for a teacher
I found one who can teach what he can play
the rest can only play on the principle monkey sees monkey repeats
and when I asked them "would you teach me", they couldn't
they could only show it, see it, repeat it, don't ask what it is
It should be a great pleasure to give us on patreon an Ebook about the diminished scale of this excellent course as you did for the harmonic scale recently. I will expect it. I repeat this message because it's realy very important for me and I like your EBooks.
So grateful to you for this simple explanation. Head and shoulders above the last dozen I have seen.
thanks you very well done, helped with my bouzouki playing
you're a great teacher. The diagrams help immensely.
Excellent video. I now begin to have clarity about diminished scales and their uses. I'll be watching this video every day for the next several days and practicing the scales from now on. Thanks for what you do!
Very useful. Thank you.
Mr Q
This is so good you could make a premium website out of this
Thanks a ton for making such concepts free and accessible to everyone
God Bless and Kind Regards
Thank you very much Himansu for your kind words . Keeps me motivated!👍
@@QJamTracks Your theory videos are the best I've found.
Better than all the videos out there.
Thanks a lot very clear explanation👌
It should be a great pleasure to give us on patreon a PDF tutorial of this excellent course as you did for the harmonic scale recently. I will expect it!
Excellent video
Great work!😀💪
Waow...Thanks so much for share...blessings
This is so awesome! This is, for me anyway, a good solid six hour guitar theory lesson with 100 hours of practice for me waiting. Great Video!!!
Another superb lesson. You are probably the best teacher out there on modes and scales!
That's too much credit Nyx but thanks!!!
Awesome lesson
Thank You for the Excellent Lessons!
You're welcome and I'm glad you like it !
great lesson.......
You nailed it perfectly....gr8 vid
Nice one clear and full off concretes examples thanks
Thanks! You're welcome :)
Absolutely brilliant
I swear, man , I thought my theory was upto scratch. Relatively good playing (Even though that is meaningless as I have no comparison, like good compared to Lil Wayne? )🤪 okay, not as good as him, but up there with JayZ ! He he he. Sorry, I went off on a tangent. Must be the snowballs😋 Be that as it may your videos are brilliant, I can only imagine the time and effort. The modes one was brilliant and the way you showed how to get your head round them relatively is such a good way for songwriting. And not that hard to comprehend. In the key each mode has the same tension notes, all the modes in the key of C use F and either or B . I look at it like changing the tonal centre, say D Dorian, but play Dminor and when you bring that B in , interest is piqued. Anyhow, I wanted to let you know I’m inspired.❤
Fantastic lesson!
Great lesson again.. Thank u !
Thanks Ozgur!
exactly as you describe it cristal clear
Thx
Thanks Lumpi!
you describe exactly what makes the difference from simple to elaborate guitar playing and it closes here a gap ;-)
Can't thank you enough that's nice and clear content great job buddy 👍🤘
Best video ever.
Sir,
I want to say there has been nobody who has given a very clear explanation like you.
Thank you very much and God bless you.
But I have an observation about the two diminish scale I guess it is C dim7 = C Eb Gb Bbb and D dim7 = D F Ab Cb diminished not Cdim7 = C Eb Gb Bbb and Dbdim7 = Db Fb A Cb. Kindly let me know if I'm wrong. It is found exactly 2:13 into the lecture time.
Thank You.
I noticed that also. The diminished 7 scale is made up from the notes of any two diminished 7 chords a whole step apart. eg. C and D diminished7, not C and Db. I believe the Dominant diminished scale is made from two that are a half step apart. Do you know if this is correct? It makes me wonder how much attention is really paid to instructional videos like this.
Diminished scale (mode1)
C Dim7= C Eb Gb Bbb(A)
D Dim7= D F Ab Gb
Dominant Diminished scale (mode2)
C Dim7 =C Eb Gb Bbb
Db Dim7= Db Fb(E) Ab Cb(B)
One is fully diminished the only chord on the root is
Dim7 (1 b3 b5 bb7)
Susb5 (1 4 b5)
Sus2b5 (1 2 b5)
1 2 b3 4 b5 #5 6 7 CDEbFGbAbAB
6= bb7
Dominant Diminished
1 b2 b3 b4 b5 5 6 b7 CDbEbEF#GABb
b4=3 b5=#4 6=bb7 b3=#9 (however you want to view and use the intervals)
can be used over
Dim7 (1 b3 b5 bb7)
min7b5 (1 b3 b5 b7)
Dom7 (1 3 5 b7)
Min7 (1 b3 5 b7)
Sus#4 ( 1#4 5)
Susb2 (1 b2 5 )
The notes an intervals can be confusing because it's an octatonic scale with 8 notes. I noticed he was doubling up the C with one at the end (Cb or Cbb) so it would be clear.
The Diminished scale mode 1
C D Eb F Gb Ab Bbb Cb
Dominant Diminished scale mode 2
C Db Eb Fb Gb Abb Bbb Cbb
@@timsmith190yes you are correct
yep, good video. nice and clear. plenty of useful info. having a IV chord in bar 2 is more a jazz blues mannerism. a standard blues would just have 4 bars of chord I
Dim7 scales:
Diminished/Dominant diminished
(4 harmonic minor modes)
Locrian nat6
Dorian #4
Lydian #2
Altered bb7
(4 harmonic major modes)
Dorian b5
Lydian b3 (Lyd dim)
Lydian Augmented
Locrian bb7
(4 Hungarian major modes)
Lydian Dominant #9
Altered bb6 bb7
Altered natural 6
Dorian b2 #4
(4 Romanian Major modes)
Lydian Dominant b9
Locrian natural 2 bb7
Melodic minor b5
Lydian Augmented b3
modes from The Tritone scale.
(1)(1 b2 3 #4 5b7) No Dim7
(2)1 b3 4 b5 6 7 Dim7
(3)1 2 b3 b5 b6 bb7 Dim7
The other 3 modes of the tritone scale are the same as the first 3.
Octatonic diminished has Hungarian Major, Romanian Major and Tritone scales within the intervals and Romanian Major has the Tritone scale within the intervals
Thanksssss sooo much
You're welcome :)
This is really helpful thanks. I'm still confused haha. To be honest when I first started trying out the harmonic minor scale it sounded bad but then i made it work i guess its the same with this puppy in fact they sound similar i would say if they were a cheese. The minor scale is like a gouda the harmonic minor is like a medium mature cheddar and the Diminished is like a Gorgonzola they all have more intense sounds the deeper you go.
Anybody who's honest about using the diminished scale finds it endlessly confusing and revealing. Through repeated use in different situations it reveals its many dimensions and applications. While easy if you're merely copping licks or playing arpeggios, mastering the scale takes years.
Is there a lesson for doubles harmonic and minor scales
Not yet, but I'm sure I will do a video about that sooner or later...
QJamTracks holy cow! Awesome
i feel like im watching Vsauce for some reason lol
Didn't know VSause until you mentioned him. It's a great channel :) I subscribed immediately!
@@QJamTracks lol the more you know
is this guy Dutch :)
100%
Too much distortion. One note blends into another and we lose the affect of the notes on the chords.
1897 or as I say it 1879 😂
