The video shows the line diagram for starting Air System of Marine Diesel Engine (Sulzer / Wartsila Engine), which comprises of - air bottle to provide 30 starting air, pilot valve to start the operation, turning gear interlock, automatic air start valve, air distributor, and cylinder head starting air valve.
Air supply is provided by opening the main air bottle valve. As the valve is opened, the air is passed through the pilot valve and acts on top of the automatic start valve, providing a positive closing. The other branch supplies air until the turning gear interlock as the interlock blocks the air to go further.
To start the main engine, first turning gear has to be disengaged. This will deactivate the interlock and the air will be supplied to the automatic start air valve.
Since there is a spring pressure and additional positive closing by the air supplied pilot valve, the air will not go further automatic start valve until the start command is given.
When the air start lever is operated in the ECR, the pilot valve shifts and blocks the air on top of the automatic valve. It vents the line and there is no more positive closing.

This is start air system of SULZER ENGINE RTA . In the video it should have been mentioned . Some of us might get confused.
Yes, this is for Sulzer engine. We have updated the description and mention the engine make. 👍🏻
Good day. Can you do a video on the MAN B&W ME Pneumatic Control System by line section and or by mission? Includes components and function. Thanks.
Hi Ulrich
Sure, We will pass your suggestion to our team. 👍🏻
Thank u
I've read a calculation of MAN starting air consumption a few days ago, but I felt a little bit confused about the reason why the air consumption decreases as the number of starts increases.
very informative indeed
Thank you Derrick
thanks very informative
Glad you liked it 👍🏻
One question. From the perspective of bridge. Why some Pilots allow the kick on air to be tested and not kick on diesel?
Since the motion is the same .Why do the allow the one and not the other?
Correct me if i am wrong but going DS ahead whether its on air or in diesel is the same . Isnt it?
Air kick will not rotate the shaft with the speed with which fuel kick will do as when fuel is inserted, there will an explosion inside cylinders pushing the piston with more speed.
@@marineinsight thank you sir-really appreciate the response.
Thnx a mil!!!
👍🏻
Thanks so much. I need the guide of air distributor.
👍🏻
How many bar air pressure can be used in main engine, aux engine starting time..... Please upload the video.....
Hi, Have you seen our article on starting air system - www.marineinsight.com/tech/8-things-to-consider-while-operating-starting-air-system-of-marine-engines/ -This might Answer your query

Where would you put a slow turn application on this drawing? bypassing the automatic valve is my thoughts but??
Bro this is a sulzer rta engine . Slow turning features are present in man MCC and ME engines
Hello marine insight, i want to ask something.
25-30 bar is the main air
7-8 bar is the pilot air (that opened the starting air valve to allow main air goes to the unit.
But in this diagram video,
Which part , that the pressure reduce from 30 to 7 bar for the pilot air line.
you need to study the start air valve mechanism with due respect
See deven arahana page no 186 . No 2 shown there is the 30 bar air comming from start air manifold not the control air which is directed by the spool valve of the pilot vv
I want a complete explanation of monoevuring diagram plsss
Thank you for the comment. We will pass your suggestion to the team. Meanwhile please use our forums for particular questions -

what s the type of automatic air start valve used here. in man b&w engines it is ball valve
Does the air act on all cylinders or just one?
depends on which air you are talking about...the main air or master air simultaneously acts on every cylinder. The pilot air acts on the cylinders as per the firing order...so for a six cylinder engine, at one time, two cylinders are under the pressure of the pilot valve
hello, we have a problem with the fuel system, I am trying to find a solution. When we open steam to the fuel heater, the fuel pressure rises, I disassembled the heater, I tested it, there is no leakage anyone help me a idea
I want starting air system in MAN B&W ME Engine
Well Noted. We will come up with something on the said topic 👍🏻
what she speaking , any idea of engines there ?
