This was built as Allders and opened 1983. There is some of the original brown colour that Allders used. Then Blue. Debenhams took this over in 2005 but closed this when it went in to administration the first time before going into liquidation with the closure of Canterbury now partially burnt down, Folkestone and Ashford all of which remain empty. This store shut in January 2020.
They won't be forgotten but they will be remembered for being crap, especially M&S which is overpriced and politically insecure (remember when they sold hijabs as school uniform?)
Never shipped there, But used to pass through the building as a quick way to get to the high street if I was using the parking space behind. Then again though this was only if I was popping down to get some stuff for my vaping needs as there is a store pretty much opposite. Debenhams was way too expensive. Makes me wonder what they could possibly use that building for now going forward?
Superb. That's weird how it's been left like that. Hopefully it will reopen as a store with as much kept original as possible. Could the glitchy relay logic lift just be dirty contacts? I was thinking you could fix the floor indicator, and was wondering if you would. Great use of the radios.
That's actually NOT what irony is. Irony would be if somehow the fire doors started a fire when their purpose is to stop fire from spreading. Being blocked open with a fire extiguisher isn't irony. The door will still stop the movement of fire if left to its own devices and the extiguisher will still put out a fire regardless of the position of the door. Niether of the devices have an opposite unintended consequence. I fully appreciate that the English language LACKS a proper word for what this is and irony is CLOSE to it (easily confusable).
Currently Litchfield one is being turned into a cinema, but I haven’t heard stuff for ages. Went past yesterday notice from the council says planning permission is accepted so hopefully it gets done soon
No 😂 it was all escalators and a very long and winding walk from street level to use the toilets at the top. I always used them back when it was alldars because it was plush in there in the 80s.
Shame to see it all empty I wonder what became of the staff who once worked there thinking they had a secure job with Debenhams being looked upon as a good firm to work for , but nowadays all company's seem to become impersonal and autonomous cooperate mentality. I wonder how the escalators and lights are all on ,some one must be around checking the security of the building sometime and it seems quite risky to have fire doors kept open in an empty building.
Thanks for sharing this with us. Makes me realise how much I miss good old Debenhams. It's sad to see it empty.
neat stockroom at 4:10.

I worked in that store when i left school in 2001 till 2004. This was when i was Allders. Many happy memories there.
That Debenhams looks like a backrooms level
I agree
Debenhams will always never be forgotten. Same with other department stores that closed including BHS but Marks & Spencer is still trading.
Yep 👍
Luckily my local M&S is still open. lol

@@wclifton968gameplaystutorials Barely remember it.
M&S is still open
8:07 have you ever got an escalator fire shutter to work? I’ve never seen one on action.

Brilliant video again beno !
Wow that is spooky to see the escalators and stuff are still turned on dispite the building not been used for quite a while
i want to explore that store with him.
@@SamSitar no you don't
Try to do a learning run on the KONE lift to see if it will accept the top floor
Ahhh the place where you did escelator surfing right?

Probably a charity shop
3:02 the bell sounds like the bridgnorth cliff railway bell a bit
2:04 that's a very old fire alarm panel
1:07 --> Ground floor
4:56 --> First floor
8:18 --> Second floor
10:49 --> Third floor (Staff only)
18:44 --> Fourth floor (Plant room)

Honestly, some of those pics deserve to go on r/Liminalspace :P
13:39 US numbering
Great video, Beno! 😁
Can't believe you didn't try to start the generator
The irony of fire doors being blocked open with fire extinguishers.

It's a shame the lift thinks that the 4th floor is invisible lol 😛
Is there not more than one passenger lift?
No 😂 it was all escalators and a very long and winding walk from street level to use the toilets at the top. I always used them back when it was alldars because it was plush in there in the 80s.
Getting backrooms vibes, spooky.
That's cool vid, miss going there.
This has to be a new Backrooms level, the "Abandoned Debenhams"!
Who pays the electricity bill
The administrations who have let Debenhams close down pay for the electricity
3:59 that’s rare of a kss470/420
It is a common style of Kone button used on LCE mods of older lifts
13:50 it’s an ecodisc lift
Shame to see it all empty I wonder what became of the staff who once worked there thinking they had a secure job with Debenhams being looked upon as a good firm to work for , but nowadays all company's seem to become impersonal and autonomous cooperate mentality.

Strange just how noisy the escalators sound in the now empty store.
That’s a good place 👍
Wasnt mr bean in allders?
