This test does not apply because the EMG is the bridge while the SD is located near the neck. To be a good comparison both the pick-up should be in the same position
+George Parsons you can put an 81 , 85 , 60 into the neck and all will sound quite different , the very same to be said for the bridge position... Generally speaking the 81 sounds fairly good in either bridge or neck BUT that's not the point... in the video if the neck pickup was the blackout and the bridge was the 81 the sound / tone would be completely different.... good example would be some of the ESP Eclipse guitars which had 81 in both positions and SOUND different depending on which pickup you have selected...
I sometimes tune to standard with 13's. Some jazz guys go higher than that. Dick Dale is famous for using extremely thick strings and keeping the guitar in standard tuning. It's all in the player's preference. If you do a lot of bends 12's might be hard on your fingers at first but you will get used to the stress over time.
yes, i have, they work great, right now i am using 12s for GB and e strings, and 11 on EA and d strings, i kept the 12 on the first three strings because the G in a D'Adario 12 set is wound which is fucking awesome to have, and then i have the 11's for the last three strings (my fingers needed a break after 6 months of those hefty puppies :D)
actives are like passives except they require a battery. you may need to adjust the volume on your guitar though as the duncans tend not to have the best clean tone in the world. but thats why you buy them in the first place :D
JH hetset are pretty good also, great highs and lows......the emg 81 seams thin, and the blackouts are ballsy, but have no clarity....which one to use would depend on what music you play...
blackouts are too sensitive to the point that they pickup some unwanted buzzs and sounds when you subtly move your fingers, they are so powerful that they tend to slightly break up while on clean mode. i go with EMG
Do this test again... except this time place the pickups in the same position and play the same riffs example for this video would be... 81 in the bridge & neck , make sure the placement of the pickups are around 4mm on the neck and 3mm on the bridge Play clean thru the neck , split / both , and bridge then play rhythm crunch thru the same as above , and lastly turn to high gain settings and play the same test again Install the blackout in both the neck and bridge and play the same test as above , also make sure that the pickup height is adjusted to a similar variance , I'm certain that 4mm for the neck pu and 3mm for the bridge is great for EMG but i dont know what the best distance from the strings are for the blackouts.... do this test and it will be a) more comprehensive b) more better c) I won't complain as much d) all of the above Good luck !
I like the blackouts for cleans, but EMG for hi-gain.

1:53 The Day That Never Comes - Metallica
2:31 Enter Sandman - Metallica
It's like the Blackouts have more clarity on Clean.. But on gain it sounds like a muddy broken speaker compared to the EMGs.. Im still with the EMGs..

Best comparison video I've seen, nice job!

The blackouts sound fantastic for subverse
Duncans are definitely more organic(better bass response). I think they're both quality pickups.

Good luck !
blackouts have a stronger magnet so they need to be further away
The Blackouts have much more clarity in these tests...

From my hearing, the Seymour Duncan produces more clearer tones...
