She acted and sold that song with such emotion and charisma that I was moved to tears, even though I don’t speak French and have no idea what she is singing about. That’s the power of performance.
She sings of her insecurities and fears as a singer. But also of his fear of loneliness. She explains that she doesn't love herself. And she shows who she really is, hoping that someone will be able to love her

And this came second in 2021? It must have been an absolute belter that won, because this is probably the most incredible song I have heard in ages. Really got hold of me. My French wife didn't know this song when I played it to her, I assumed it must have been a timeless French classic. It is now. Just wow.
@@claire2088 Why exactly is the fågeskin song "belter" ? Just because someone like you that knows nothing about Music liked it ? I'd rather even become a belieber than listen to that song or fågeskin ew. And even that beaver is more man than the fågeskin band members hahahahaha how pathetic
Yes. This was overwhelmingly the greatest visual performance of the night and you're right - the climax was utterly fantastic, so skillfully and professionally crafted. You very rarely see anything like for a musical performance, the emotional impact was just something beyond. The lights were so beautiful and the minimalism so powerful.
It's my favourite part of the performance! At this moment I totally forget that it's a live performance, because it looks like in a movie or music video. The whole song feels very intimate. You get the impression that there is no big stage, no audience, no camera, just her and her passionate voice.
This year's singers all sounded better live than in the studio version of their songs, here it makes the song much deeper and more emotional than it was first set out to be
I sometimes think that modern studio production sucks the life out of voices. It's like they want each millisecond to be on pitch and they end up taking out the grit of the voice.
and she doesn’t even need flashy lights to back her song up. it’s just her and a microphone, and she did it perfectly. true talent, it’s like she’s made for performing
Even tho France didn't win, I think this song and performance is equally as perfect as the winner's, it's just a different genre and Rock&roll is more popular I guess. Like you said, she didn't just sing it, she gave her all and it was so emotional. I watched her France Eurovision performance (which is good), but this one is amazing!
Ughhh I know right.. the way she was singing and the way it ended, she seems so confident and so strong..it gives off winners vibes.. 2nd place is still a winner
I don't think there was any moment more perfect than at 2:48, where she belts out a heartfelt 'voilà', and you can hear the crowd roar in answer. This was a masterpiece.
@Mrnjau wow did she hit you or steal you something ? What an angry person with no reasons… barbara is a great talent, she is a very good singer who can give a lot of good feelings (if you have a heart to see it), and this is why she finished 2nd, she deserved it
@@Ludiotic I don't think she had to ignore the cameraman, she didn't notice him. She was in a trance. At the end it looked like she was waking up from it. Goosebumps.
Maneskin was just a littlebit better. Problem with this. song.. she sings is really flat, she has lots of emotional expression... but her voice is just flat.. no depth. Examples of cover from Lucie with Emilio is way better.. but Covering is maybe always easier.. :)
@@StephanBerenschot She is not singing flat, what are you talking about? Not that I love her voice ( too light for me) but within the limitations of it , she gets everything she needs out of it.
I watched this live with a group of very noisy friends. We were having fun and laughing at everything that came out the screen. But when Barbara started singing we were left speechless in awe for 3 minutes straight, which in itself was an amazing feat considering we were already drunk. I will never forget it.

@@eimantas6405 ridiculous comment, the Italians were the worst in the entire contest, proving you guys bought off all the judges in order to win; the French song was the most emotional and authentic one. Nothing from Italy is authentic, certainly not the music. If Italians want to win prizes, they need to go full maffia on the competition; and you know this is a fact. That is "what I mean".
The way the camera moves erratically from left to right as the song reaches its crescendo, the lights blinking, her singing becomes a lot more passionate... a truly cinematic backdrop to give even more life to her performance. Brought to tears without understanding a word of French. This is sublime.
@@LunaryGaming Keep up! Most French have difficulties with their own language too lol! It's indeed complicated but if you try it enough, you can totally be fluent easily.

I know secondary school level French and I understand most of it. Either that speaks to the UK language education (which I doubt😂) or it’s a fairly simple beautiful song.
This song was impeccable, even her breathing, and when her voice breaks here & there, all perfectly executed & flawless. This is one of the best executed live songs I have ever seen, period!
yes yes and yes, am in love with this girl and her voice, she is to good for this omg..... plus when i found out she is Serbian descent my heart went on fire🇷🇸🔥
she's the type of artist you cannot sing along with, you can't make comments, you can't really react - she completely stuns you with her talent and performance, and leaves you speechless.
The fact that a majority of the public didn’t understood a word makes this performance even more powerful. She’s truly screaming in the void and will only fall on deaf ears…
This performance is truly on a next level - not only did she sing, she also acted and lived in the moment in a sense that brought out so much emotion in one go. I can't describe the power she made me feel throughout the entire show, but I'm sure that's what she wanted people to feel!
Yes - enormously so. And in a way you could see that she even surprised herself. This was a majestic performance. Raw and in a way unpolished, but who would want to sterilise that passion with rules? Amazing.
For those who don't understand French : That's the story of "someonone" who cannot believe in her dreams and who needs the support of everyone around her. That can be the singer herself because she says "this black-eyed woman and her crazy dream". Maybe her crazy dream was to win Eurovision song contest ? We don't know. She just "wants to write story that hurt people in their heart and soul". And Barbara Pravi wrote the lyrics and the music. She is full of scars, she barely not exists. Sometimes, she doesn't like herself. She needs people to look at her to feel better. She just used to stand in front of people and do what she does the best : singing, be nude in front of everyone who's staring at her at this particular moment. She exists at this right moment because people make her existing. Is she better than another singer ? No. But the difference is there : she gives everything, always. She puts everything she has inside her on the floor. Well, that's the story of someone who doesn't trust herself but when she's making her thing, everything is ok. And so, what happens when the lights shut off ? Is she continuing to exist ? Her voice continues in our head, her story too. But what about her ?
What a voice. What a woman. I can feel Paris and Paris's style while watching and listening to her. She isn't just singing it, she is living it. My winner.
This proves that music transcends languages. I don't understand french, but i feel this song, i understand this song. Such a strong performance. Bravo!
I never get tired of watching her performace. She needed nothing but her pure talent to fill an empty stage! The way she lives the song, the emotion she put in it…This is true art! I love this girl so much!❤
@@something5120naa they are talking about the powerful and strong personality with the very emotional expression through the performance. That's the French touch, the French charisma haha

From 2:19 onwards I feel like I'm being transported to a French movie or something like that, the camera movements, her gestures, her passion, it's magnificent
The fact that she doesn’t need any kind of a great big light show is just soo calming. Almost all of the other acts had a great light show. Not that I think its bad but she doesn’t need any of this to entertain and touch a giant audience. And I also know that all of these participants are living for the music but even though you don’t know the language you can see that she isn’t just living for the music. She is passion and music in person. Great character. Great personality. Great Song.
2021 was full of certified bangers, so the votes in my opinion were way more balanced in contrast to 2024 where half of the songs were... eh... and so Switzerland wasn't left with a lot of competition because A) the jury hates fun B) a good amount of songs weren't that good...
Always someone who is rude to winner, they are both talented, bot Nemo's performance was on another level. For some people she is too dramatic for no reason. The same with Slimane. Overacting.

Everybody I was with were talking and making playful jokes about the other acts, but when this came on, everyone shut up and listened to her sing. That was so cool.
No need since the intention is to focus on the song, melody and they way Barbara expresses the song in her action. I would say she is the true winner of Eurovision 2021
To me this was one of the highlights of Eurovision of the past decade. I love it when a participating country just says "no circus acts, we are just going to focus everything on a beautiful song". That was Portugal in 2017, and France in 2021. Conchita Wurst was that too in a way. Sure, you've got a bearded man doing a drag act, but it was so minimalistic, and everything was focused on a frankly stellar musical performance. "Rise Like A Phoenix" is also a modern Eurovision classic and certified banger, with or without the drag act.
That girl is amazing. You can hear that she put her heart and soul into this song, making it so beautiful. I was really emotional when I heard it, no background, no dancers, no nudes, only pure talent. For me, she won with Italy
her performance is the real example of how music surpasses the language barrier I didn't get a single word except voila but I somehow understood everything she was trying to convey she was speaking to my soul

You didn't have fireworks and special effects. The most special effect was your voice, elegance and minimalism. Congratulations Barbara, you have already won. 🇫🇷🇵🇱
A truly beautiful song. It reminds me so much of why my dear late husband and I loved the amazing country of France so much. We were all ready to move to live there, having bought the most wonderful house, high up in the mountains of the Auvergne. It was simple, needing much doing to it, but it always felt like home whenever we visited. It was our safe place. Tragically, just weeks before we were due to move, our beloved and beautiful 11 year old Granddaughter died suddenly of a cerebral aneurysm. There was no warning, no prior symptoms. One minute she was so happy on holiday with my daughter her Mommy, son in law, her Daddy and her younger sibling. The next she put her hand to the back of her neck and said “ouch Daddy that hurt”, and collapsed, and never regained conscientiousness. We turned off the life support machines the next day. Our hearts will remain heartbroken forever. We will always miss that smart, funny, beautiful, gifted child who I was so privileged to be known by her as Nanna, and my dear late husband, Grandpa. But our dream to move to France ended that day, as we could not leave our daughter and her family with their grief to cope. Since then my husband of 43 years died suddenly of pancreatic cancer. That wonderful man never recovered from his heartbreak at the loss of our Princess. I miss them both so very, very much. I always will. So to hear this song, with its incredible lyrics, tune and the voices that have sung it, I will always be reminded of the things that I have been blessed with in my very long life. Despite my deep sadness at the loss of my sweet granddaughter to whom I was so close, and my husband who I know loved me unconditionally for so many years, this song will remind me of their love for me, their beauty of soul, and the beauty of that incredible country, France.

This is not a dig on Eurovision contributions in English, but you can see this song written by the person performing it in her native language has a very visceral connection to the singer and you can feel her passion - that is not something you usually get with songs written in English for people whose native language is not English.
True. Native language is the language of one's emotions and other languages remain always a bit superficial. Hoping for a trend to send more native language songs to ESC.
Absolutely 💯 right! I'm from UK 🇬🇧 and I'm so disappointed with how many countries are singing in English, when their own language is so beautiful❤. Everyone please be proud of your language, this is our one chance for all of us to really appreciate and enjoy how good other countries music really is ❤ 💙💜🧡💚🤘🌟🙏
The worst part is when they simply can't write properly in English. If you do it like Germany, Iceland, Lithuania did it, it can be great, but sometimes they just write in English for the sake of writing in English and it's rubbish.

And this came second in 2021? It must have been an absolute belter that won, because this is probably the most incredible song I have heard in ages. Really got hold of me. My French wife didn't know this song when I played it to her, I assumed it must have been a timeless French classic. It is now. Just wow.
When I heard it for the first time, I was also convinced it's some old classic!
Måneskin won with zitti e buoni, really different song but definitely a belter :D
The song that won is indeed an absoloute belter. Funnily enough where this is in French, the winner is in Italien. Way different vibes though.

i feel that the cinematography and movement from the camera at the end was underappreciated, it made the dramatic conclusion to the song so powerful

It is because rules have changed this year as this was the first year contestants could add back up vocals to their live performance

For those who don't understand French :
That's the story of "someonone" who cannot believe in her dreams and who needs the support of everyone around her.
Exactly, and her performance felt so real, so full of emotion... She really deserved to win
omg thanks

one of the best performances at euro vision of all time. Without any dancers or special effects. This is real music
I told my wife "I don't know what she's singing, but I believe every word of it!"
Tell them about this black eyed girl and her crazy dream => Parlez leur de cette fille (girl) aux yeux noirs et de son rêve (dream) fou.
I speak a little bit of French and I heard her sing: “C’est fini” which means: “It’s over”
Im french, it's about affirming himself. She's shy at the beginning but she becomes confident at the end. "Voilà qui je suis" means like : "this is who I am" in this song and "me voilà" means "here I am"
Супер!!!))) Круто Франция!!!! Очень Красиво!!!
It is called have so
I didn’t understand a word that she said but I FELT everything and cried my eyes out.Just pure art!
She sings about herself. “Me voila” means “here I am”, “I sing for you, I give all of me, I give you my best, I’ll sing ‘till the end. I am just a girl with brown eyes, what you see is who I am.”
I know right! It was so beautiful, it was like she sang her heart out!
she said voilà it's me = this is me take me as i am etc.
She said voilà qui je suis means voilà who i am
@FDS wow! I LOVE IT EVEN MORE! Thank you guys for the explanations.I also searched on google the translated version but you explained it so much better!
This and also Switzerland song are making me want to learn french!!!
I love this song so much because it's basically just like:
Here I am
HERE I FUCKING AM
She trusted herself and she made it. Art is art, talent is talent it wont change.
Basically
😂😂😂😂
@@akakiyakayevic4562 your comment makes no sense btw
Basically yes 🤣🤣🤣
2 years after and i still get chills everytime i listen to it...the most epic performance in eurovision since long decades
Such a french musical expression when sadness spirals into madness. You can almost see how broken, lonely girl from beginning turns into carnival of clowns, gypsies, fairies in the end... magnificent!
So Bad song
BEAUTIFUL.
@@antolibeau131 your a bad person. This is a really masterpiece
Wow, this comment is so beautiful and so on point!
Honestly loved this song. But the best part for me was that it was so pure. No special effects. No elaborate staging. Just a gorgeous lady with a breathtaking voice. Singing her heart out. Loved it . For me, she won.
Same, Italy didn't deserve to win in my opinion! I'm not saying Italy is bad, I am saying there are more songs better in my opinion. My two favorites were Ukraine and France!
Edit: Why do I have so many likes😳
France is the real winner
I was honestly with Italy...but this year it was so difficult to pick one song...there were many really good ones
So Bad song

You didn't have fireworks and special effects. The most special effect was your voice, elegance and minimalism. Congratulations Barbara, you have already won. 🇫🇷🇵🇱
And Italy won... Sad

I lost count on how many times I've replayed this.
Me to
OMGGG ME TOOO HAHAHAHAH

Italy was great, there were other great songs and artists but no one brought so much soul and emotion to a song like Barbara did. She gave it all. True masterpiece!
she deserved the win in my opinion
Masterpiece? I suppose Beethoven didn't write anything as good.
@@standafan4141 what's Beethoven got to do with this? lol
@@user-rv5pn9sc5f i feel that nowadays people use the words Genius, Overrated, Underrated and Masterpiece in a way unused before which obviously over time devalues the true meaning of the word. This song is a traditional French chanson, there have been thousands of them throughout history.
Beethoven wrote masterpieces.
@@standafan4141 But.... You can't compare Beethoven, it's not even the same thing, so this example is bad, yeah.
And no, you're wrong. A masterpiece to someone even before can be just a normal thing to another person.
It's the same thing, even now.
I love the way she is getting overwhelmed by her own incredible energy in the end. She is a force of nature. Thank you very much for this emotional and energetic moment.
This os one of the best songs, im dutch. I just found out the lyrics. This song is amazing. Its really art and culture. Thankyou barbara pravi
Barbara may not have won tonight, but she have won my heart and millions of hearts all over the world! This song will stay with me the rest of my life ! Bravo Barbara Pravi
I don't understand why the public has voted for italy... France was the winner.... I'm so so so sad but so so so proud too of Barbara. It was the only luck for France to be the winner. Now, it's ended . it was so emotional and true. It was the best French eurovision song ever, the best eurovision song, I don't think that France will have best singer than Barabra in the future. It was our unique luck to win. And now, it's over. I'm so proud that my country has been represented by Barbara but so sad too . I’m never going to watch Eurovision again.
@@lavieestbelle7901 I agree with you 100%. I’m never going to watch again because nobody else can become my favorite again. Barbara is in my heart forever.
@@lavieestbelle7901 we saying the same thing with amir :)
Italy can saying the same thing with mahmood, I volo or francesco, but they won :)
This is, I’m sure, only the beginning of a great period of success for us in Eurovision again☺️
If you do it like Germany, Iceland, Lithuania did it, it can be great, but sometimes they just write in English for the sake of writing in English and it's rubbish.
you clearly havent heard enough native irish and english songs
Yes, of course, that is normal for every native language and singer.
My 9-years old daughter did not understand a word of what Barbara sang, but showed me her goosebumps while watching the performance. This incredible song does not need any explanation, as it touches your soul right away. The absolute winner of the Eurovision 2021!! Love from the Netherlands ♥️♥️
Merci beaucoup. Huggs from 🙋♀️🇨🇵 for you and your daughter 🥰
What a soft soul. Barbara was truly magnificent
I totally agree with you, even without understanding the language, the emotion is so strong, the music takes us away, this song is beautifully interpreted by Barbara and for me, she won everything (friendship from France)
agreed!! She has the most beautiful voice and the song is so beautiful even though I don’t even know exactly what it means!
Ja echt nonstop kippenvel bij dit lied, zooo goed
I don't understand a word of this song (except "Voila" lol) but it such a beautiful song! Listening in 2024..
Sound so much better than the studio version. There is so much emotion in her performance.
it is normal song it's a masterpiece she just shows full emotion that is so beatiful
this is probably the best camerawork on any performance.
Looks like the common linits camarawork
I think the best camerawork in 2010 Manga/we could be the same
Glazing
The fact that Slimane performance for France this year is also a masterpiece because of the camerawork is stunning
