I do love it when people enjoy Your New Boyfriend the way it's meant to be (a comedic/not serious song), because I've seen too many reactors take it too serious even though the lyrics are overly self-aware.

Personal favourite will always be Since I Saw Vienna for me. The whole album holds a special place in my heart tho. It’s half the reason I can play guitar despite having dysgraphia, and guitar is a huge part of my self-care now.
I genuinely believe Wilbur is one of the geniuses of our era, I can’t express enough what this man has done for every community he’s touched; not just with music, pretty much everything he puts out is a masterpiece. He’s broken the internet several times over, sometimes from behind the scenes. I’ve studied creative writing for over 6 years, and when he wrote his first story I was sitting there taking notes. (Obviously there were pitfalls to it that you can only navigate through experience but the fact that it’s as phenomenal as it is almost feels unfair lmao)

!! Just for some information: Your New Boyfriend is actually the third part of a trilogy of satirical songs called "The E-Girl Trilogy" (I'm in Love With An E-Girl, Internet Ruined Me, and Your New Boyfriend). The other two songs you reacted to are from his serious solo album Your City Gave Me Asthma (which I personally am a huge fan of and would love to see your reaction to the rest of the songs. "Who hurt the boy" is definitely a great description of the whole album lmao). He has said that he's doing much better since writing the album and even went as far as to "disown" the album, saying that it actually belongs to the listeners it has helped get through tough times and not him, which is really sweet :)
Thank you so much for reacting to Wilbur and Lovejoy, your reactions are super genuine and your positive energy is contagious! I'm really happy to see such a wonderful person experience one of my favourite creators for the first time!!

"Maybe I Was Boring" was one of the first Wilbur's production. It's good though. Also you have "I'm in love with an E-girl" It has more funny things. In Maybe I Was Boring there is a song named "It's all futile It's all pointless" it's first version of Lovejoy song of the same song. Wilbur has a lot of things that are very interesting but I can't name all of them.

the juxtaposition of "Your new boyfriend " to "Your sister was right" was really crazy. I knew all of his released music(Lovejoy, YCGMA, maybe i was boring, His egirl tirilogy & joke somgs like "i'm smart") but its still a hard 180 and a gut punch.
Also, i dont know how much you know already from the comments but Jubilee line is about a train station in london, and its about how people comitt on the underground by jumping infront of the trains and the government simply put barriers to prevent the jumpers instead of helping those people. To me it hits home.

  • @alwayswatchingvideos4
    @alwayswatchingvideos4 Год назад +11

!cw- mentions of suicide! at the lyrics "there's a reason london puts barriers on the tube line" and you said "i think that got dark" wilbur was referring to the stations that have screen doors. they were put in place in the early 2000s to prevent people from jumping onto the tracks of an oncoming train. it's not very fun to think about but unfortunately it got a time they had to put the barriers up :( (the new elizabeth line has them too) love your videos!

    as a major wilbur soot fan and brit here is some facts;
your new boyfriend is the end of a comedy trilogy (called the egirl trilogy ) he wrote making fun of people (specifically men) who treat women on the internet badly and simps. The character - fandom dubbed as simpbur (wilbur + simp) - has been chasing this egirl who he follows on twitch, thinking he should be her boyfriend (which you'll probably discover from listening the rest of the egirl trilogy). This songs chorus wasn't made by him but was made by his close friend and fellow streamer TommyInnit (who he constantly says is his brother), he also got lovejoy's song concrete on the playlist (because they where going to remove it from pebble brain).
your sister was right is a song will doesn't talk about much and i don't know a lot about it, but it's mainly about wilbur and his ex-girlfriend. he has stated that this track is mainly for the fandom to put a meaning behind.
the jubilee line is a tube (subway) route in london which is known for having a high amount of suicide rates and the rail workers and people who wait for the train don't care and put up the barriers to prevent it ('there is a reason that london puts barriers on the tube lines') and if they do commit, they end up upset that they can't get to their destinations . Will didn't like this and wrote this song based on his experiences in living in london and felt it was wrong the victims where being dehumanised. He also ended up getting asthma from the city and as a 'hypochondriac' he added more onto it through the song 'saline solution'
if you want more songs like jubilee line and your sister was right - i recommend checking out since i saw vienna and saline solution
if you like your new boyfriend - check out the rest of the egirl trilogy (in order it's; i'm in love with an egirl, internet has ruined me and then your new boyfriend) and soft boy
if you want more lovejoy - i really recommend the fall and either they're cover of los campesino's song knee deep at APT or oh yeah, you gonna cry (my personal favourite)
and if you like lovejoy, they take huge inspo from the band los campesinos and arctic monkeys
loving the reactions mate can't wait to see more

*For anyone curious and wanting to check Wilbur and LoveJoy out;*
Start with the "Are you Alright?" EP ( its just 4 songs) and then the Peeble Brain Ep (as much as i love the AYA? EP, I think they really hit a stride with Peeble Brain, specially when you hit The Fall), then LJ's solo songs, Knee deep cover and THEN Call me What you like
Then maybe go onto Wilbur's solo stuff if you want a treat (Your City Gave Me Asthma Album, its arguably his best solo album, then Maybe I was boring EP, tho im not as big fan as it but its still not bad)
Also Wilbur has a solo parody music series the "E-Girl" Trilogy. Its more memey with him portraying a "Nice Guy" during the songs but that doesn't mean they arnt amazingly made, Your New Boyfriend is a bop!

I genuinely don't think there is any way to describe William Gold and what he does. Wilbur is incredible. The way he writes, not just songs but stories and scripts as well, is unprecedented. He made an ARG that still remains unsolved 5 years later, he wrote most of the original Dream SMP lore and that's what made the server huge, he wrote original stories based off of that lore as well and obviously his music but he manages to separate his music into three catagories as well.
your new boyfriend, internet ruined me, i'm in love with an E-girl and Soft boy are the most popular songs that are his comedy songs they are called the 'E-girl Trilogy' (soft boy is the outsider it wasn't part of the trilogy but can be classed as it.) In these songs and others like Karen please come back, I'm really smart and the nice guy ballad Wilbur plays a character where he acts like a chronically online middle aged man who's constantly on the wrong side of reddit where the men class themselves as 'incels' and 'nice guys' when in reality they are misogynistic. it's meant to criticize those people through comedy and is one side of his writing.
Another side is Lovejoy where he and the band write songs but i'm pretty sure Wilbur is the main writer, They focus their songs on toxic relationships and Englands government. Model Buses is a key example of this where the entire song is written about Boris Johnson and how he was a crappy prime minister, the lines 'he's got a bus, he's got a bike' relate to how he put in place public bikes and bettered the bus services all throughout London. The Fall is another song written from a perspective of a Tory MP where the line ' we're painting all the counties in blue' relates to the Conservative government's colour being blue. These songs are entirely separate and a different vibe from YCGMA and the comedy music they are serious without being ridiculously personal and it's these songs he plays live since he plays with his band and not by himself
Now Your City Gave Me Asthma and Maybe I was Boring are the third side to his music. It's the exceedingly personal and deep side that we don't see anywhere else in his music. YCGMA was written during one of the worst times of his life where he was at his lowest one of the songs Losing Face was actually written while he was drunk (I Think the night his then girlfriend broke up with him but I am not sure at all about that) and there is a heartbreaking voice memo of his first time singing that song the night he was super drunk where you can tell he is clearly struggling. It talks about much much sadder topics like London's Tube suicides and the Governments reaction to them which was to put barriers that don't work in place and completely fuck the NHS over. The entire album begins with Wilbur saying he's leaving London and that he's glad to be gone because the city was suffocating but at the end he says a part of him will always be a part of the city and it is just so heartbreaking. Wilbur himself has actually abandoned the album, saying that it isn't something he likes anymore and that it's the peoples album now, that he doesn't want to profit off it anymore than streams and that we as his audience own it because of how hard a time he was having while he wrote it.
I think a nice way to see the ycgma and the maybe I was boring era is the song It's all Futile! it's all Pointless! which originated as an acoustic song on Maybe I was boring (which on spotify is 4 songs under one track so it's a super long song with all of them on it), It describes depression taking over him while he was at university and how he wanted to feel less numb. It's such a sad song and it has some of his best written lyrics on it considering it was some of his earlier serious work. The song has been a fan favorite for ages and in the Lovejoy Pebblebrain EP it was entirely rewritten in Lovejoy's style with sick base, guitar, drums and a banging trumpet. It takes this slow acoustic song written at one of Wilbur's worst times in his life to an upbeat track that although has the same lyrics as that awful time, has been remade when he was and still is at his happiest and the music change almost symbolizes that progression in his life. The first iafiap resembles loosing hope and giving in to depression and although pebblebrain's iafiap has the same lyrics the music change makes the song sound like hope. It's like Wilbur was saying 'depression can happen to anyone but it gets better it gets easier to manage and you will regain hope' its a song I sob too but at the end I'll always find myself smiling like crazy at how far Wilbur has come.
This comment feels like an essay so if you did read it this far this thank you and this is the conclusion. I would describe Wilbur as a genius but I don't even think that covers him. He is an inspiration to millions of people and continues to be one of the best content creators and musicians of this century and I just think he can seriously do anything. He is my biggest inspiration and I don't think I would be here without his work so please continue to check more of it out. he's also a part of an Improv channel called Sorry Boys where him and his fellow content creator friends do improv videos every 2 weeks if you want more comedy from him! as well as that one of his friends James Marriott also makes music and I'd love it if you could check him out if you haven't already I'd definitely recommend Car Lights by him it is such a cathartic experience hearing it for the first time and I'd love to see you react to it :)

Your content is awesome and the way you commentate on the video seems like we are on FaceTime and you are like a great friend! I’m glad you are opening up to Wilbur and the Lovejoy band! In my opinion they are really a great band!

Your City Gave Me Asthma is a great sad album, my go to infact. Personal favourite of mine is Losing Face. There are also "demo" versions of some songs on yt somewhere that are even more raw and heartbreaking, full of emotion. Heres a link if you want: ruclips.net/video/H3WpBvqzRWk/видео.html

Your New Boyfriend is the last of a short series of songs Wilbur made to make fun of chronically online guys who feel creepily entitled to women's attention both online and offline. Also, Wilbur wrote Your Sister was right entirely wasted and actually cried while recording it. Jubilee Line is about society's general indifference to suicide.

There’s probably another comment explaining this but..
    TW- unaliving/sad
Jubilee line is about how when he lived in London and how when people are on they’re way to work and there is a delay in the train due to people unaliving themselves on the track, people would just sigh and be annoyed there is a delay and they’re gonna be late to work and not be phased by the fact someone was so unstable or alone that they would want to do that, and he couldn’t get over the fact people could care less about it. Later he moved and “I’m sorry borris” is about moving away and kind of breaking up with London and the UK in the fact he’s started allowing himself to want to move away and let himself not feel stuck in the UK if he wanted to move out, he moved a week or two after he wrote the song to somewhere else in Britain.

i know your a music reaction channel 😅 but i think you would really enjoy some of wilburs content especially a video by red herring called ‘wilbur soot arg explained’ the start of his arg was actually one of the first times i’d watched wilbur. it’s just creepy and weird and seems like something you’d enjoy! 🤣🤣 great reaction by the way ❤ edit: i forgot to mention that even to this day nobody knows the true meaning behind the arg and has actually figured the puzzle out as wilbur refuses to talk about it or give any clue. i think that’s what makes it even more interesting

As someone who's been on the London trains quite a few times when I knew Jubilee Line it brings a whole new feel to those lines. They legit have barriers to prevent people from jumping down on the tracks. It's an incredibly dark part to put in a song... Really makes me feel sympathy for him even if he's gotten through it.

Oh yeah! Since you really liked Wilbur and the band he’s in, Lovejoy, then I recommend you check out Los Campesinos! Los Campesinos! inspires so much of Wilbur’s writing, in fact Lovejoy even did a cover of one of their songs Knee Deep at ATP
And one of the lines that you heard in Your Sister Was Right,
    “Shout at the walls
Cause the walls don’t f**** love you”
is a line inspired by a Los Campesinos! song, Miserabilia
“Shout at the world because the world doesn’t love you”
Also Los Campesinos! is unlike any band you’ve probably ever heard let me say that, they have an insanely good female vocalists, insane genius music writing aspects and the vocals are probably the most unique thing along with the genius lyrics, please give them a listen it’s definitely a band that personally I think everyone should listen to at least once.

    wilbur is a genius
not only does he know how to make thw funniest content, he can also put serious issues in songs and make them funny but also put his own feeling into songs and make emotional ones
your city gave me asthma is an album he wrote about his time in london which was very hard for him (you heard 2 of the songs from that album) and he didnt really like rhe album later anymore but we loved it so much that he performs some of it live
then the egirl saga songs (your new boyfriend is the third one in the saga) explain how people on the internet can be parasocial or stalk people even when its clear they dont want anything to do with you packed into funny lyrics
and them obviously the lovejoy songs are amazing as well (lovejoy redid one of the your city gave me asthma songs and i absolutely love both versions even tho they're so different, the title is: its all futile its all pointless)

since you loved lovejoy i recommend listening to james marriott! his music is pretty similar to theirs and hes also good friends with lovejoy!
fun fact: james was originally supposed to be a member of lovejoy! lovejoy have also invited james on stage a few times to play his favorite song of theirs called model buses along with them!

I’m sure you’ve already gotten alot of comments kind of explaining this.
Jubilee line is about people killing themselves on the train tracks in/around London (which is sadly a damn lot)
and people mostly just getting annoyed that their train is late rather than feeling for the people that just lost their life.
the backround noise like the louder one that you reacted a bit “shocked” is I think to resemble sounds you here on the tube stations.
Like the one I mentioned a train driving by and the beginning the classic train female speaker voice ykyk.
I find the song and the meaning behind it very beautiful.

I believe Wilbur has 2 eps (your city gave me asthma and maybe I was boring) and then 4 singles on his main channel (I’m in love with an e-girl, the internet ruined me, your new boyfriend, and soft boy). He also has a few (like 2 or 3) more singles that are older and not on his main channel, like Karen come back, I miss the kids, as well as some covers. One of his songs from maybe I was boring, it’s all futile it’s all pointless, was redone as a Lovejoy song on their second ep. I recommend listen to im I love with an e girl and the internet ruined because the are apart of a story, along with your new boyfriend. I also recommend listening to the rest of your city gave me asthma (i personally recommend saline solution and losing face). Enjoy!

you should watch a video when wilbur explains "your new boyfriend" bc some things that you think are jokes have happened- he kicked mickey mouse.
when he sang "I hate to say it, but your sister was right." he was actually crying. :')
if you like his music you should watch his videos/streams, or watch the channel "sorry boy's", it has the same humour and wilbur gives it his usual dark manipulative twist to it.

You should definitely react to his Maybe I was Boring EP! It is scrapped songs from Your City Gave Me Asthma (I particularly love the girl vocals in Your City Gave Me Asthma and Maybe I Was Boring all of the female vocalists compliment Wilbur’s voice very well)

  • @willbxrz

"Your City Gave Me Asthma" is definitely my favorite album ever, and my personal favorites are "Losing Face" and "Your Sister Was Right." I would definitely recommend listening to the "CMYB" or demo version of "Losing Face" though, because that version is significantly different from the official/YCGMA version. The demo version is a lot more raw and emotional, which I personally love. And I think there's many people in the comments recommending "Maybe I Was Boring" which has songs that were removed from the initial album of "YCGMA", along with that these songs are definitely more upbeat, but still induce a lot of emotions. "YCGMA" is 100% my go to mental breakdown album or just to listen to whenever I'm in an off mood. In my opinion, Wilbur is a songwriting genius with the way he has parody songs as well as songs that focus on more serious topics, like in "Jubilee Line". Plus his lyricism is absolutely amazing paired with his instrumentals.

I really like the vibe of your videos, so glad I discovered your channel:)
If you ever do a part 2 to this (which I'd really love) I can give out some recommendations!
For more of his comedy songs I think you'd enjoy Internet Ruined Me, Soft Boy and Karen Please Come Back I Miss The Kids (Soft Boy being his newest single)
If you want to hear more of the depressing kind of music from his album my personal favourites are Since I Saw Vienna, Saline Solution and La Jolla!
Regarding Lovejoy, if you do another video about them then i really recommend (besides of course the new ep thats coming out soon) The Fall, You'll Understand When You're Older and It's All Futile It's All Pointless, which is one of Wilbur's original songs that the band decided to remake
