7 March 2019, Palermo, Sicily. I have watched dozens and dozens of videos about Japan on different RUclips channels. The impression I have got is that Japan is a very advanced country on many levels but definitely crap on housing. And I'm not referring only to students houses and house shares but also to the houses than Japanese people, born and bred there, live in. Bathroom are so tiny that most bath tubs are half-length rather than full. So if you want to take a comfortable and relaxing bath after spending a day in a city with 34 million people you won't really be able to do that. Also, most bathrooms do not have windows meaning fresh air can never get in there. (And no, air conditioning devices and fans don't give you fresh air but only machine-processed air). Unless you own a drying machine you have to dry your clothes in ridiculously small spaces. Kitchen are so small that most households can't fit a dishwasher in, meaning that in technologically-advanced Japan you will have to hand-wash. Dishwashers are a rarity. For some mysterious reasons you are not allowed to put nails on walls for coat hangers and such so everything must be stored on the cabinet(s) available to you. I have seen videos of Japanese families of 4 where in their kitchen there is only 1 hob. I have seen videos of people telling that because of earthquakes many buildings tend to be built with very thin walls meaning that often the temperature indoor is more or less the same as the one outdoor so you get very cold houses in winter and very hot houses in the summer. Hope you have a good time no matter what option you choose! ❤️
@@MariannaVlogs Hey . thanks for the reply . much appreciated. . well I guess as I ll be joining as an English instructor, I guess the visa will be for 6 months or a year. I have checked out gaijin pot but the lease for all apartments are for 2 years. If i get a 6 months work visa then how am I gonna convince them? or are there any apartments with 6 months lease? or any shared houses that provide a private bath and toilet with the individual room?
There is a company that I’ve stayed with at one point called Oakhouse and they do short term renting and they have social residences, share houses and apartments. It’s a bit more expensive than what a local would pay but my experience with them was generally very good and the locations are usually very convenient. They definitely have social residences with private bathrooms. I think Sakura House also have similar offers but I have never dealt with them myself. It also really depends on your budget- GoldenGain (the one I showed in the video) is by far the cheapest but I’m unsure about how much privacy they offer with their other residences. It might be worth checking out the website just in case! Overall though, Oakhouse had the easiest move in procedure and I liked how I could pay monthly through the website using my UK card so it helped especially when I couldn’t initially transfer money over to my Japanese account. Hope this helps!

Was that one of the share houses from gg house? 🤔 it looks exactly like the one I used to live in, I actually really liked it there for the time being, but I totally understand why you moved out. I was honestly super glad to move back into my own apartment after a year living there 😅
I had many problems with sharing space with people in an apartment where I shared living, kitchen, dinning and a yard. noise, smell, stealing etc. one time a cop with a police dog burst in and arrested a dope. the other time a mental guy moved in and destroyed his room in the first 30 minutes and he got arrested etc etc. no more sharing.
I just moved here last week from London and going through the accommodation problem myself at the moment. Proving a bit difficult to find somewhere long term whilst on a working holiday visa =[
Not sure if you checked them yet but I recommend Oakhouse for apartments and social residences and GG house for share houses. Oakhouse is definitely pricier but a lot of my friends who have been in the same position managed to find something with them! Good luck, I know it can be tough to find accommodation here!
I would say that if you are on a small budget, sharehouse is the best option. If you have a bit of money and dont know anything about apartment, go with Leopalace21. Since they deal with most of the stuff, the appartment come semi-furnished and you can move in almost the same day.

But as said, when you dont know anything about Japan, have no contacts or anything, your chances of getting an appartment (that is not shitty) are pretty darn slim. But with Leopalace, it's very quickly done and easy. It gives you a place with everything you need to start (minus a bed) and you can rent by the month. It's a good enough starting point in my book. Hey me and my friend want to go to Tokyo on a working Holliday Visa and I wanted to ask if u could recommend some share houses or accommodations in general We are on a pretty strict budget but still want to life in a nice home... do you have any idea where we could find a good apartment ?
The one I talked about and initially lived in was GG house. Although there are several drawbacks there, personally I still would have picked it when first moving here because it’s super cheap! Another one I can recommend is Oakhouse. There is also Sakura House and Borderless House but I have never personally dealt with those companies. One thing I want to say though is pick your location carefully! It’s a huge pain living away far from from everything. If you are looking at properties request to know the closest station to them and then figure out how far the main areas are (Shibuya, Shinjuku, Tokyo Station etc) and whether it is North Tokyo or South as Southern Tokyo is a bit more convenient in my opinion. Hope this helps!!

The bathroom is definitely a must for me 😆 I would suggest a social residence as a lot of them come with a private bathroom but still offer the benefits of cheaper rent and meeting new people! A lot of companies offer flexible contracts too so it’s good if you decide to move into your own place. I am afraid you had to bare this kind of stress, which might be even difficult to maintain mental health, even fo rJapanese like me. To the frank, 'Share House' had not ben exist in Japan fo r a long time. Share house were recently just made to apply for some request of Chinese Student or workers who need to live within Main Tokyo are with cheap price. (For Chinese student who had to work at restaurant or seven -eleven. Basically Japanese condominiums in central cities were built with 'Minimum' size for small family. especially for Bath rooms etc., It is not expected to allocate space for 13 people from the beginning. I personally consider if European or American people could do with this space, he or she might be a sailor or prisoner before. As I had some stay at USA Texas, i believe 'Personal Distance' is very important to keep a certain cultural style. I am glad to know you could escape from this and change place to better place.
I have lived in shared accommodation in the UK for over a decade in 4 English cities. In recent years the rent has gone up average £ 400 to £ 750 Pounds per month and you may have all bills included. You still have to share toilets, kitchen with others who are just strangers. Most shared houses in the UK, England are dirty , some houses have rats and stink cannabis. Letting Agents and especially landlords have become so corrupt they try to avoid doing repairs all the time. The English Private Housing sector has become very corrupt and unsafe. The UK decided to leave the European Union now British people are more in charge of the UK cities now many things are just getting worse especially housing. Local councils across England give HMO License to corrupt Letting Agent and bad landlords to operate and even rob tenants deposits. No offence to all the people from Anglo Saxon origin known as white British people but they do not know how to create laws and legislations to regulate Housing, needlessly to say all the Politicians are white British and they cannot care less. Many Third World countries are 10 times better and safer to live than the UK is.

I hope this helps, good luck with the move!! ❤️
sorrily. the house s like those health department no no apartment mass share. i thought in tokyo you could find cheep place under $1k /mo. make a japanese friend, a college girl, your room mate.
also i think there's many elderly who can rent a room for people like yo. eg my parent's place in tokyo my room & sis' room have been empty for decades.
Thankfully now I found a place under $1k a month so it’s all good!
it's very interesting to know how you feel,thank-you😄
I don’t know how different Japanese lifestyle and houses are from western countries but I think where you live was just not good and not all share house are like that. Some have more spacious rooms and more bathrooms per one floor.
Anyways your video was interesting and helped me, who have never lived in any share house actually, so much! Thank you!
Oh definitely, I have a friend who lives in a wonderful share house with a much bigger room and a private bathroom. I think this one was just a super budget option but it wasn’t all bad! I made lots of wonderful friends and saved some money so I appreciate that a lot. Thank you for watching! ❤️❤️❤️
@@MariannaVlogs Oh so you could actually find rooms with your own bathroom in Tokyo (like master bedrooms) ? (And thank you by the way for sharing your experience with us, it's very helpful)
was the internet good at your sharehouse? sorry if you talked about this already and i missed it
It was pretty fast but cut out during peak times (6pm-11pm) as everyone was using it!
It is a perfect reply. 漢字kanjiも間違っていません。
Ummm... You are so beautiful🥰, good information, thanks~.
Thank you! ❤️
I couldn't live in the share house and share bathroom
We have something like that here in u.s., you can find a room in someone's house for rent and you all share the bathroom and kitchen and I guess washer and dryer I'd rather have my own place my own bathroom and share a washer and dryer
いつも観てます。頑張ってください😄
私の動画を楽しんでいただき、とても嬉しいです ❤️❤️❤️
I know this an old video but I'm interested in hearing these sinister reasons this area is so cheap.

Tokyo apartment is pretty much expensive, come to our city, Saitama city !
I think that may be my next place! 😊
Oh, you are Tomodachi, I can show you Japanese hidden spots !
Marie Kondo the shit out of that place!! ✨✨✨
You said it girl!! ❤️
Oh my god... the share houses in my city are a palace compared to these prison cells. No hot water?! You got me fucked up. Oof... this sounds like a survival story.
Haha the hot water comes out eventually 😂 this new apartment has hot water from the get go!! I took a shower the other day and it didn’t stop half way!!! I’m living in the lap of luxury ✨
Lmao I am glad you are able to live a more comfortable life style. Dude when I saw that bed, my back started hurting.
How much were you paying in yen including utilities ?
47K yen a month including all utilities!
⛩ Would love to make a video with you someday. ライト Best of Luck
Sure! If you’re ever in Tokyo let me know!! 🇯🇵
Marianna Vlogs will 100% do :)
Basically Japanese condominiums in central cities were built with 'Minimum' size for small family. especially for Bath rooms etc.,
It is not expected to allocate space for 13 people from the beginning.
I personally consider if European or American people could do with this space, he or she might be a sailor or prisoner before.
As I had some stay at USA Texas, i believe 'Personal Distance' is very important to keep a certain cultural style.
I am glad to know you could escape from this and change place to better place.
fuck!! I saw that GG House File, It is the worst share house company out there. I’m moving out
Where do you live now
I have lived in shared accommodation in the UK for over a decade in 4 English cities.
日本の動画楽しみにしています。頑張ってください♡
Thanks
Didn't you use a mattress for the bed?商店街が近いところがいいね。私の所有している家を借りて!月8万円、ファミリータイプだから高いかな。3k、66m2.
I only bought a thin mattress topper. A family type house sounds nice!! ❤️
Rent???
The share house was 47K yen a month including all utilities
Is it sad that I actually envy her room in the shared house?
It is, isn't it?
That's pretty expensive. Good thing that you move already.
かわいい( ☆∀☆)英語もゆっくりで聞きやすいし 最高!
I think this room is smaller than prison cells in Norway.
Can I move in with you there? . . . . . . . . Promise, I'm just static. :)
I think I would rather serve in a submarine than live in that share house. 7 months in one would likely send me gaga.
This place gives me prison vibes. Tiny space, hard as rock beds, no storage, shared bathroom with smelly water.
You are very beautiful my eyes just saw a angel
No successful cam girl/model should have to have room mates
Couldn’t agree more
I am gonna stop watching your videos at work... my coworkers keep saying "your girlfriend". That one story you told me about the person who moved out and pooped on the toilet. Lmmfao.
HAHAHA 😉 your poor coworkers are subjected to my musings loool! Oh god I cannot forget that day. It’s burned into the back of my mind. I relive the trauma every time I go into a public bathroom 🚽
@@MariannaVlogs they haven't had years of experience with building a tolerance towards the voice of a siren / Muse. Lmao.
@@MariannaVlogs and uh... I saw a 💩 on the public restroom toilet once in the 5th grade. Showed my brother some one did that. And we went to show some other kids (because we were in school) and the 💩 had moved from where it was. And we died laughing...
Gaijin pot
You're so beautiful
I wanna live together with qt girls like her. my Tokyo flat is always welcome. hehe
