White vinegar (well any vinegar, it's just that white is less messy and no color) will work just fine as well as its an acid.
No problem. Yeah, sometimes that green gunk is a hassle to get off. I had to scrap mine with a flat head as well before the acetone treatment.
WOW! A fix off RUclips actually worked for once, cheers man!
It didn’t work the first time I pushed it but after I pushed it a second time it started working ! Thanks dude you really helped me out !!!
i'm about to buy a new one 'til i found this video then i just bought sand paper and acetone. now it's works and you can save me lots of money, thank you so much! :))
Thank you so much. I fixed my son's Xbox 360 wireless by watching this. Now I don't have to go buy another one!
people like you save me all the time from losing a lot money with simple solutions i could've never thought of! thank you!
Thanks a LOT.
I had 4 controllers but only one working.
Now i have 4 working controllers.
You really a lifesaver
Thanks man, just fixed mine! Btw, I used sanitary alcohol, cause i didn't had acetone. And it worked, just letting you people know. Thanks again mate, you saved me money and time.
This worked! My contacts weren't dirty but I cleaned using this method and it brought my controller back.
Happy Camper!!! Thought I need to get a new controller but everything is closed. Saved me a bunch of money and I'm playing tonight!!!
Excellent! Thanks man, this was driving me nuts. Both controllers were not working but this fixed it like a charm.
This video could have been 6 minutes shorter, but thank you, it worked.
THIS METHOD WORKS EVERYTIME. I thought my controller has busted but before I pay out 34£ I had to try!
Watched two other videos before seeing this one and this one worked the best.
I had some white stuff built in at the bottom of the control pack and I'm guessing it was from the trip back from Afghanistan?
Did not have any alcohol so I just used water and Q-tips and this worked like a charm.
Thanks for the video!!
No problem. I'm glad this video helped out. Pass the video along and maybe it will help others out like yourself!
30 seconds with a pencil eraser worked for mine. Thanks for the video! Mine didn't look dirty at all, but cleaning it worked perfectly.
Excellent, worked well :) The contacts inside the battery holder *looked* clean, but the controller started turning on again only after cleaning the contacts (I used rubbing alcohol).
Thanks for posting your video!
You shouldn't tell them to get another controller if this fix doesn't work, it could be the metal prong on the pack was damaged too. Just stick a small strip of aluminum foil at the bottom of the battery pack connecting the two contact points. You can even run a controller without a batter pack by taping two batteries to the back connected by aluminum foil.
THANKS!!! WORKED PERFECTLY-Never considered qtips and alcohol. Cleaned right up and worked
woot wooot. Worked like a charm. I scraped them with a flat-head then acetone and shazam. Thanks for uploading this video and saving me money!!
This actually worked thanks man it was because my batteries had leaked I will be subscribing
sir, you deserve the like
worked like charm, even without acetone
I usually never comment on videos. But this literally made my day. Took me a while to get the gunk out, but using a tiny flathead screwdriver helped me get that last bit of green goop off the metal. Thank you.
LadyAngel510 I'm very glad to hear this worked for you! Yes, sometime that gunk is tough to get off. Using the small flathead screwdriver does seem to do the trick. Sometimes you have to put some sand paper on the eraser side of the pencil to get that green gunk off too!
I thought this is rubbish it looked pretty clean when I looked at mine but I tried it and it worked so all credit too you bud!!!
Dude thank you! I was about to throw my controller away because of all the battery acid. worked like a charm
Wow...I was having same situation and thought of taking to a repair..Thanks for my rescue
That sucks. I'm assuming the battery holder is broken/cracked on the sides, correct? If so, then what you may need to do is carefully super glue the sides that are broken.
3 other videos didn’t work, but this one DiD... THANKS!!!
thank you! you saved me from buying a new controller. btw...i used regular non acetone nail Polish remover and it worked😄
Thanks for the simple fix, was aggrivated over nothing but a little dirt
Where you able to resolve your issue? It does seem a little strange. Can you tell if the plastic battery holder is broken?
Weird cos both of my controls just wouldn’t turn on after not using in a while. Have to try this but just seems unusual that they would both just die like that at supposedly the same time. Plus will regular nail polish remover work or does it need acetone?
Glad to hear this worked for you!
Even without Acetone it worked like a Charm.
Thank you very much
Chakratos Excellent! Glad to hear!
+Chakratos I'll second this: tried it today, only the Q-Tip and water on one tip and used the dry tip to dry the contact points. Worked A++.
I might give this a try, my issue is that my controller is not recognizing a full charge with new 2 AA batteries that I just charged or try with a different battery pack.
I think something may be wrong with the controller itself, I switched the battery packs with a black controller I had and it worked perfectly on that.
Hi there, is it possible that the contact points in the controller is the one that needs cleaning and if so, would you reccomend using this technique on them? is it safe?
Hey i dont hav nail polish in my house is hydrigen peroxide a good substitute
Is there A Vid for cleaning corrosion from a battery Compartment X360?
Thanks a bunch man, worked perfectly even though all the corrosion won't come off!
Thanks man. My battery pack is messed up too. I need to fix it so I can trade this console into gamestop and get $175 credit towards a PS4! New promotion they got going on.
Thank you so much. This fixed my controller that I was about to throw out. I really appreciate this.
There was a lot of corrosion on my contact and I had to get in there with an eyeglass screwdriver in order to make a connection. It took 15 minutes but it worked.
Thanks again!
+Michael Hunt How did u use the screwdriver??
Well done you've just saved me £35!!! Many thanks!!!
Mine were already clean but mine kept disconnecting. I found out that I needed to push down on the top of the battery pack so the circuit could be completed, then I used black electrical
tape to keep in place. I kept shaking the controller to see if it loses connection, and it didn't. Good video though!
Thanks so much . I didn't have finger nail polish but I tried water and it worked just fine for me
You are welcome. Good to know it worked for you!
Worked man! Thank you for this video! Fixed a couple of my battery packs now
I actually didn't have any nail polish but i had use ketchup as for its acid content...And i wiped it on the part let it sit for ten minute. Got another qtip whipped it clean and it worked. It was clean again all the gunk off. :)
my 2nd controller is a complete goner. when i used the Q tip, found that greenish stuff came up but i tried with new batts also couldn't. It's strange that i had just played 3 days ago, then spoilt. I'm playing the new Dragonage now, so got a new one.
what's the best way to maintain it as long as possible?
I didn't have any q tips, so I just cleaned it with my finger. And it worked lmao. Thanks.
hi friend, I can actually see that there is corrosion and what looks like rust on the spring that touches the battery end (not on the pack, on the controller itself).
Do you think I could apply the same method to the spring and it might fix it?
i had A problem On the control battery On the back where u put the pack it had Orangy kind a shape on it and when i removed it all it works fine.
Thank you so much! My controller worked after cleaning it out like you suggested :)
what do I do if the battery has corroded one of the contact points? do I have to buy a new battery back?
Thanks for the help, my xbox controller when you move it, it would turn off and wouldn't go back on but now that I did this it helped a lot.
thank you so much! that is so simple, i tried three different ways to fix and only yours worked!
You are welcome. Pass this along if you know anyone else that need help with this issue.
OMG It actually worked!!!! I though that I had to buy a shitty battery pack from amazon but u sir save me!!!
Recently, in an act of stupidity, I decided a 9 volt battery would be a good substitute for my controller. After aligning the prongs, the controller stopped working altogether. It won't even light up when I press the home button with new batteries in the cartridge. What exactly happened, and is there a way I can fix it?
Thank you so much! This worked and we had this problem for almost 2 months.
YOUR A LEGEND!!! IT WORKED!!!! THANKS I SUBSCRIBED AND HIT THE NOTIFICATION BUTTON AND SMASHED THE LIKE BUTTON
I had to have a wire on my controller for the longest time, before I played my game tonight I was just like fuck it I'm going to look up a way to fix this, and this worked, thanks a lot for the help
Just use alcohol! Unless all u have is nail polish remover because the polish remover have other ingredients that don't dissolve completely.
That is very true! Good point. I had to use the nail polish remover because mine was very gunked up!
Worked for me!.. kind of. I used a baby wipe around a Q-tip, but it fixed my controller. I thought it was a goner!
Thank you so much. I used methalated spirits which worked just as good. Thank you
i have isseus with the connection between the controller and the xbox the light is blinking and dosnt stop, please help.
Thanks, I'm thinking of trading in my 360, and it fixing my controller will boost trade in value nicely!
Was very helpful, it took few minutes and working fine. Thanks you.
You just saved me 35 bucks, thanks man.

Excellent!
Not so good over here
Thank you so much!! I wish I could like this more than once!!
Sweet! Good to know this was helpful to you!
Thank u so much! My controller hasn't had any other problems!
It Works !!!!! Thank you so much, you saved me before a Lot of Boring days
what if you have a rechargeable battery pack connected to the controller. then what do you do?
Cleaned mine with hand sanitiser and then I blue tack mine on to stop it wobbling out
Works :)
Ok. Try this then. Affix a piece of sand paper on the eraser side of a pencil. Gently rub the bottom contacts with the sandpaper until you see shiny metal. Then use the q-tip w/acetone to clean. Hopefully that will do the trick!
You just saved me a lot of money....Thank you!!!
I was gonna buy another one but I tried this and it worked ur awesome dude
If you have no lights on charger cable plug it in the Xbox remote with battery and try different angle positions for the remote. I fixed mine by putting the remote on its head with charger cable and the lights turn red
Thank u so much, i had a halo tournament, i would not have been in it if it wasn't for u!!!
Thanks man! Worked perfectly! Even with generic cuetips :P
I used T-cut car restorer, I know that this video is old but thank you so much
Will my battery pack work if I use rubbing alcohol ?

YOU SIR JUST SAVED MY LIFE
Will non acetone work too???
How do you remove rust off the controller's battery springs
+EJ games85 Scrape it with a nail file, It worked for me!!
Dude thank you so much!! You gotta get a career at Microsoft or somethin!
polish remover is acetone?
I took a peak inside, saw some gunk on the contacts, but I didn't think it was that much. But yeah it was just dirty enough to screw it up. Thankfully no corrosion
controller works like a dream now thanks dude!!!
YES THANK GOD IT WORKED! Thx for the video!
Oh my god you are my absolute hero right now! Thank you so much!
I kinda have a similar problem but it turns on and it keeps turning off for some reason even if I have a full battery pack. (Black wireless controller)
Dude thank you sooooooooooooo much!!!! I am subscribing and I used a pencil eraser instead to clean it, but thanks so much!
Thanks a lot for the video, worked straight away!
