I just found your channel. I subscribed just as I click on the vid. I didn't even listen to you speak. That name says it all. With a name like that which sounds in laymen's terms is what I get rite off the bat. With a name like that I gotta be able to learn sonmething from you. Thanks bro. I see what you did there with those pallets. Awesome!
Great video! Just got mine and had no idea how to start and what to put in there. Had no idea paper and cardboard can be used as well. Thanks so much!
Paper and cardboard are both a great brown. Just off set it with some greens and keep turning.. thanks for watching and commenting!!
Just found your channel! Great info! Just bought a tumbler (IM4000). Can't wait to get it started, we're in Wilmington NC. Thanks for sharing this info!
Enjoy the Tumbler! Keep filling it and turning and you will have some great compost in no time! Thanks for watching and commenting!!
This was a very informative video thank you😊
Thank you for the kind words..

Thank you for this great info. Just received the Vivosun Composter and can’t wait to start using it!
It is a great way to compost.. keep turning it!😀. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
Enjoyed watching this. We just received our tumbler but haven’t put it together yet. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and hope you have a blessed weekend.
You will enjoy it.. it works great!!!

I'm enjoying your videos very much. I've just purchased my own Composter (same model as yours I believe). I'm trying to convince the wife to support my efforts with collecting/sorting materials from our home. (LOL). Question: What kind of equipment are you using to record (video) these updates to your channel? I like the sound quality, your voice volume and picture display of the channel. It's welcoming tone and simplistic presentation is enjoyable to watch. Thanks.
Thanks for watching and commenting!! Good luck with the tumbler.. I just use an I phone to film my videos..
Great way to get rid of all those important personal documents.....🤣😂
Question: is ink toxic?
I don’t believe they are.. I have researched RUclips and have not seen anything negative.. thanks for watching and commenting!
Should you wait for it to heat to a certain temperature before you tumble it or can you just tumble it whenever you want to?
Turn it as much as you can.. It will help with breakdown of materials! Put it in an area where you walk by a lot and keep tumbling it.

@@thestupidgardener4642 for replying! My inaugural input was two days ago all of the produce scraps from prepping Christmas dinner. Then when I learned about “greens” and “Brown” I went around the neighborhood yesterday gathering leaves from the so I could throw some leaves in with it. I’ll keep adding kitchen scraps & leaves or paper until side is full, then I’ll start the other side. Do you think printer ink or newspaper ink could be toxic?
@@karenharelson9616newspaper is generally safe, especially modern day. Just don't use glossy paper
As far as printer ink, I've read it's ok but office paper is bleached so people don't like it. Receipts are supposedly bad due to bpa in the paper allowing them to be heat printed
Thank you all for the replies so far I have had the Tumblr for seven months, got it for Christmas. I’ve been putting greens and Browns all this time, live in Southern California, where the temperatures are mild. Still no heat though?
@@karenharelson9616 sometimes it takes a long time. Can you get any rabbit, chicken, horse or cow manure?
I have a couple questions. You mentioned that you added some more kitchen scraps before the grass in month 2...can we continue to do this or does this slow down the composting process? Do you ever throw away kitchen scraps because of the compost stage? Can you take only a little compost out at a time or do you need to remove when done and store in a bucket somewhere else?
You can keep adding as much as you want. It breaks down quickly.. I find if I don’t add greens it dries up quickly.. you can take out a little at a time and keep the process going. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
Have you had any issues keeping your compost tumbler in full sun? Some say it helps heat up the compost too much, some say it helps to speed up the composting. What is your opinion, please. Thank you.
Good Question!! I move it around if I think it is getting too hot in the sun. Keep it full also and well mixed. Thank you for watching and commenting!
if you have trouble with ants getting into your tumbler, smear some petroleum jelly around the lower legs of your tumbler.the ants cannot get past the jelly.fwiw
Great Tip.. I will keep that in mind when summer rolls around.. thanks for watching and commenting!!!
I heard you can toss some cornmeal into your tumbler. Ants will eat it but can’t digest it and they will die. ???
Hi there, I’ve had a compost Tumblr for two months now. Adding all of my kitchen scrap produce, coffee, grounds, eggshells, etc. And then adding “browns“ that I’ve seen suggestions of online. No bad smells, has plenty of moisture, some liquid drips out the bottom all the time. However, two months later, no heat? Any suggestions about that?
Once the weather warms up you will see the heat go way up.. keep feeding it and turning it.. thanks for watching and commenting!
Collect the liquid if you can. Some people call it compost tea and water plants with it.
What about adding earth worms? Will that help speed up the process?
Thanks so much!
Marlyn, Back Yard Gardner
I do not put earth worms in the tumbler.. the temperature gets way to hot and the will not survive.. just keep spinning the tumbler and it will break down.. thanks for watching and commenting!!!!
I’m thinking about adding earthworms to the compost once it’s completed and I’ve dumped it out. I’ll just dump some worms in with it. Seems like a good idea?
Great idea…
Seriously I hear a lot of great RUclips gardeners say use cardboard and paper. Im not going to do that. I used to drive a truck and Ive picked up huge rolls of paper . Im thinking they use chemicals in the making of paper. I know Im going out on a limb. Ahah!
I’ve been wondering about that as well. I live in a neighborhood, not a farm. I just walked around the neighborhood with a plastic bag and picked up all the leaves off the ground for my “Brown“ it was , and spurred a lot of interesting conversations with Neighbors.
