You still have 2 Halloween movies to review. Not III. Rob Zombie rebooted the franchise for 2 movies worth of story. Danielle Harris, the girl who plays Jamie, Laurie's Daughter in 4, 5 & 6 plays Annie, making her a 5 time Halloween alumni. I'm sure if you've heard anything about it, you've heard the negatives, as is the popular modern dismissal technique, but for my official Top 3 rankings, it goes Halloween, Rob Zombie's H2, Rob Zombie's Halloween! It's due for a resurgence. It'll happen.
I'm curious to know your thoughts. I like how they portray Myers' psychosis, especially in part II.

@@Nicolas.Vincent I actually grew up watching the two Rob Zombie remakes funny enough! So I've seen those (even though there's quite a bit I don't remember)! :) That's why I never made reactions to them. I think I will down the line but wanted to keep this series pure by only seeing the franchise films I never saw.

@@ScaredPale Ah, OK! I'll have to come along with you in your Nightmare reactions. I think I've only screened up to part 5, and I'm sure I've seen bits and bites of the others here and there, but never from beginning to end. In fact, the last time I did screen a Nightmare movie was on VHS. No local shops had all of them, so a buddy of mine and I ended up calling all over the city to track them down in release order, but my buddy got tired of doing that and he gave up on me 😭
I wonder if you're all up to date with the Friday franchise? Hands down my favourite of the big 3 Slashers. I greatly favour a sympathetic Slasher, and my growing boy Jason is one of the greatest! 🪓 I need the pain of a Voorhees, or a grief stricken Pumpkinhead or the ultimate sympathetic Slasher Candyman 🐝🚽 I don't like how rude Freddy is. As a Halloween fanatic since my childhood, I GET the frustration with this one. It’s definitely a lousy finale to a long-running saga. But! I dig it 😅 Idk what it is, I just love the vibes, Corey’s character arc, the expanded characterizations of Laurie and Allyson, the little world-building details sprinkled throughout, and the whole Christine-esque element. I kinda wish they’d saved this kind of experimentation for a reboot, but I appreciate them trying something so different anyway, lol!

John Carpenter originally intended to make a comeback in the 1980’s with a 4th Halloween. The intention was to show how Michael affected Haddonfield, in the years following his death in part 2. I can’t recall if there was a apparition version of Michael to add to it. Carpenter used quite a bit of his part 4 treatment in this film. Such as the woman that confronts Laurie outside the supermarket. The film once again plays a composite of former canon sequels. Even a nod to Halloween III with the opening credits.

@Lialexen Again he had nothing to do with filming, and yes he suggested doing this or that, and they would take that into consideration. Like in the 2018 movie they wanted to do that flashback to 78 to show him getting caught, he told them no you would piss of the hardcore fans, so they waited and did it in Kills. He gave them ideas but was not involved in making the film.

And also, Laurie clearly says at the beginning that since Michael's return, the town has changed, its got darker, less trusting, suspicious, thats why the towns folks have turned so dark and bitter. Its a cool idea, the town went through mob mentality during the second, and now they are living with grief and fear.

How I look at this trilogy it is more than about Laurie vs Michael but the town of Haddonfield dealing with trauma and healing from it along with how Michael's evil spreads around like a disease affecting those around him like with Dr. Sartain in H18, the town in Kills, and now with Corey in Ends. This movie sends a positive message on trauma healing. I look at Ends as the epilogue to H18/Kill or the effect to H18/Kills cause.
I also love how it pays respect on what John Carpenter wanted the series to be with focusing on different stories centered around Halloween and we got majority of that.
How I interpret Corey and Michael is that Michael is getting older and his body went through a good amount of damage in both H18 and especially Kills, his home got demolished which was his goal to begin with hence why he’s living in a sewer but he has won because the entire town of Haddonfield is even more traumatized and afraid because of his 2018 mayhem. However, his body is rotting away in the sewers and the evil inside Michael needs a new vessel and looking into Corey’s eyes seeing the trauma he went through and himself which then the evil in Michael transfers itself to Corey, its power waking up the buried hate inside Corey. The opening intro with the jack o lanterns foreshadows that Evil doesn’t die but changes shape.
Overall, I love this trilogy and Ends is my favorite out of the three and my 2nd favorite in the series and it ended the Laurie vs Michael saga on a satisfying note for me.
You mentioning a what if with Lindsey being the main character makes me want to see that happen lol

  • @punkem733

Thought it was well made, but a HORRIBLE halloween film. Supposed to be the last chapter of Laurie and Michael we get 90% of this film with a kid who is evil, 10 mins of myers who looked more feeble/fragile then a 90 year old cancer patient that weighed 50 pounds. I swear DGG is Bi-polar, 2018 they said they wanted to make it more grounded and took away his supernatural edge, just a man who can take an incredible amounts of damage, then ends they gave him back that edge, with laurie's dialogue at the end, and the damage he was able to survive without a limp. Hell he was in a house on fire and the smoke would kill any living creature in a min or so, he was in there for what, 6-10 mins at least while the fire dept got there. Please don't say that gate kept the smoke out those gates are not air tight. Then in ends we get a normal guy? Getting pushed around by a nerd who takes his mask? lol Tonally they did a 360 with myers from 2018 to ends.
I feel like blumhouse had these grand ideas for kills, and ends but not the film making skills to pull them off. Funny I think 2018 and ends are better made films then kills, but I had the most fun with kills. Here's to hoping that the next studio to get the rights are competent, and understand the character better.

The best way to keep the Corey storyline, but in a slightly better way, is to have Corey not actually kill anyone, but instead stand by and LET Michael kill people because of how badly the town treated him over an, albeit horrible, accident. It would have been a much better commentary on the people who go to these films to watch characters get killed and then the scene where Corey eventually tries to stop Michael from picking up the knife would have felt more impactful.

There are some actually very interesting concepts in this movie and I genuinely enjoyed a few scenes but... the overall execution of these ideas is horrible imo. I have a lot of issues with this one but what bothers me the most is that a) it doesn't feel like a natural progression to the last one, b) Laurie and Allyson are acting so unlike the first 2 films, c) they decided to end this saga by introducing a new character that wasn't in any of the previous ones, give him all the screen time and kill him off even before the end. I actually like the idea of someone being obsessed with Michael and what he stands for but it feels super forced and unbelievable how they did it. Same goes for the love story between Allyson and Corey.
I guess you could give them credit for trying something new but... did they? The 2018 movie took the concept of the original and combined it with H20, HKills combined Halloween 2 and Halloween 4 and finally Ends combines Halloween 3 with Christine.
So... no, doesn't feel that creative to me. I enjoyed the previous ones because I think they had great tension, some tragic moments and perfectly captured what makes Myers scary.
After Halloween Ends I left the cinema feeling kinda empty and dissapointed because this last one didn't feel much like a Halloween movie at all and had not much of what made the first 2 good.

Me personally when I first watched it I was very disappointed cause for months they made it seem like Laurie and Michael is about to have this very big showdown and whatever for only it to be like a 5min brawl if that and lack of Michael in this movie.
What I did enjoy was that they can build a character who was just a normal person doing his job in order to make money and the next moment he's looked at as this monster by everybody which turns him into this cold hearted killer. I like that a lot that shows that somebody else can wear the mask or be the next Boogeyman besides it always being about Michael.
And after rewatching it I enjoyed it very much granted it wasn't the best out of the trilogy but it was decent. If blumhouse does decides to continue it I hope that they keep Michael dead, if anything I feel like it should be an anthology and keep it pushing.
Now for the anthology I feel like they should introduced some new characters and obviously a new killer and they can even mentioned something about Michael Myers and the things he did.

  • @spookyhokum
    @spookyhokum Год назад +4

You found far more to enjoy in this movie than I did. I'm really glad I didn't see it in a theater because by the end I was just uncontollably shouting "Jesus, this movie is terrible!" at my tv like it was my new mantra or something. Could not get over it. The paper thin characters, the tired melodrama, the inexplicable psycho killer bromance ... what a bizarre trainwreck.
On the "this isn't about you, Laurie" note: what're the odds Michael's brand new protege would just so happen to wind up romantically involved with her granddaughter? Of all the people in Haddonfield? And he didn't like, meet Michael, get possessed by "Evil" then search her out to get to Laurie or anything. It was all just happenstance. Or "fate" or whatever. This trilogy clearly had no idea what it wanted to do or say in that regard. Just such a puzzling mess from beginning to end.
If they ever make another one of these, I hope they go back to the OG chronology. Get real weird with it and bring back the Cult of Thorn! Hell, see if Paul Rudd and Danielle Harris will do it. Never happen, but it'd be more fun than Ends was.

Yes, they tried "something new" with this installment, and by "new" of course we mean ripping off movies OUTSIDE of the Halloween franchise: Christine, Friday the 13th Part V, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2, My Bodyguard, Boogie Nights, Vanishing Point, It, It: Chapter 2, and so on and so forth. Such a novel approach. One thing I did kind of accurately predict the filmmakers would do was rip off the unused screenplay for Halloween IV by Dennis Etchison. It picks up 10 years after Halloween 2, Dr Loomis and Michael are dead, but Michael kind of lives on as an evil specter infecting the hearts and minds of the people of Haddonfield. It's a good screenplay, but of course DGG and DM managed to F that up as well.

"Why is he talking like Batman all of a sudden" -Sydney. haha that was funny, nice reaction and breakdown I like your beanie and nice new couch. Personally, as a huge Halloween fan I felt this movie was blah, the Corey stuff distracted from Michael and they treated him like a normal human in this movie where every other timeline and even the past two movies of this trilogy timeline he was more supernatural, this one the only thing we saw that would hint that is the transferring his power of evil into Corey and Michael seeing his memories, weird...
Felt like they wanted to end this timeline with Laurie on top while hinting at the concept of "evil comes in different forms" yet they decided to make Michael more human in this movie yet still try to keep that supernatural element which imo doesn't work, it's one or the other not maybe yes, maybe no. You saw Kills he was unkillable pretty much, this one a kid takes him down and steals his mask..just annoyed me lol.
I think the next time we see Halloween again it'll be a full out reboot/remake, they need to make him supernatural metahuman again, hell i'd even give him a healing regeneration factor since the original Michael pretty much had that with all he tanked getting shot, impaled, burnt, run over, shot over balconies, electrocuted etc etc and not dying. This one he gets stabbed and throat cut and dies lol...after getting shot, stabbed, run over etc in the last few movies. Like you said.
I don't think David Gordon Greene knows what Michael is, one movie he made him supernatural, unbeatable the next a human...it's stupid lol. The Corey stuff should have been a separate entity or short lived if anything. The movie also as you and many others mentioned has very little Michael Myers time which for a last finishing movie is one of the dumbest ideas they could have done. This movie was one of the worst Halloweens up there with Resurrection and Zombie's H2 as far as I'm concerned lol. Hey hope you react to the Child's Play series next, I think you'll have a lot of fun with Chucky if you haven't seen them of course.

It's going to be like the Nightmare remake where everyone was constantly comparing Jackie Earle Haley to Robert Englund lol. Ahh ok I couldn't remember if you saw them or not, I gotcha.
Oh wow so you saw Bride a kid, see me I'm a little older haha I first saw chucky with the first movie I was like 5 lol scared the hell out of me, like most 80's babies, he was also far more creepy and sinister, then they made him sillier and goofy so 90's and 2000's kids didn't find him scary like my generation of kids did. I'm sure you know what I mean though if you compared the first 3 movies to Bride, Seed etc My two fav slashers are Chucky and Michael, but Freddy is also funny. Never been into Jason like at all lol. • @MKF30
      @MKF30 Год назад

@@ScaredPale Yeah I always saw Jason as a Michael knockoff to be honest, I mean Michael was the first supernatural slasher, stalks, disappears, reappears, wears a white mask, never dies etc etc lol. Jason also supernatural slasher, stalks, disappears and reappears, wears a hockey mask, never dies etc etc lol.
I much prefer Myers for many reasons over Jason if I had to pick that slasher archetype. The first few movies are also incredibly cheesy with the acting of the Friday the 13th series compared to the other slashers. He kills out of revenge for himself and his mommy lol. Kind of generic to be honest so you're not wrong lol.

What would have made this work is to keep it simple. Laurie is out for blood after Michael killed her daughter. She has help from her grandaughter to do it. It all happens on the same night just as it was originally planned. The fact that they were forced to shut shit down because of covid screwed everything up. It gave them way too much time and they started to vastly overthink everything and tried to come up with this compelling narrative... but it fell SO flat and the way it was portrayed was SO bad. I will be pissed about this movie forever. We had 2 great movies and all they had to do was stick the landing and they crashed.

Loved the tone. Loved the vibe. Loved the Corey story. Loved Allison, freakin' hot in this flick! Didn't give a shit about Grandmother Laurie. I didn't like...Hell, I hated Myers in this flick! First David Gordon Green states Myers isn't a supernatural killer, then he made Kills where Myers is without question, an Immortal. Pitchfork to the lungs, eh? Was he just joking? Could have chained him to the bottom of a lake at the end of Kills.
Ends, old Decrepit Myers, gets actually beaten up by ol' hollow boned Grandmother Laurie, and like, slowly and gently bled? I liked the grinder, but only cause it was so gross 🤭 I hated Myers when he was getting his "quickening", in fact all the Corey/Myers scenes were so stupid! It actually looked stupid! How Myers learns Corey's past? So stupid! Just so stupid! All Corey/Myers scenes were almost offensive. I hated them. I feel like a No Myers Cut would have been a lot better. I prefer Myers in Resurrection more than in this.
Good movie, terrible Halloween movie! I liked the movie, but I just hated Myers.
For my No Myers Cut, Corey finds Myers in the sewer and he's basically all but dead already, dying and useless. Considering I thought the eye contact scene between the two of them was going to be like a body swap, I'd go with that concept, but Myers somehow just imbues Corey with his Power. The Shape is now inside of Corey. Corey cuts off Myers' head (or something definitive) and leaves Myers' body in the sewer.
So Corey is out "Burning it Down" in his Scarecrow Mask and instead of Myer's and Corey out killing together, with Corey learning and Myers teaching, instead we see Corey teaching himself how to let The Shape take over, where recreating the knife pegged victim to the wall kill would make a lot more sense. In these 4 movie's timeline, that kill is in the 1st, H40 and Ends. It was tired when Myers does it in Ends, but if Corey did it himself, that would have been so much more meaningful. It would be his first time killing with Myers' signature kill.
Corey could go back to the corpse of a rotting Myers after each kill, and after each kill, he loses more and more of himself and becomes more and more The Shape in the form of a Man.
"If I can't have Alison, nobody can!" Are Corey's last spoken lines in this flick. By the time he goes to Laurie's house at the end, Corey sees himself in the Mirror and he is The Shape! We see he is The Shape and Laurie sees it too.
They fight, Corey stabs himself in the throat, so no more voice. Alison gets there early and stomps Corey's neck for trying to kill her Grandmother. Corey is dead!
We feel it's over, there is a poignant calm.
The Police show up, take Grandmother and Alison to safety. We get a sense of relief. It feels over.
The Shape gets up, Coroner's Van kill maybe? Then The Shape is fully born into Corey's body. We know it definitively. We can see it. Corey as The Shape ends up back in the sewer, sidling up beside the long rotting corpse of Myers, and we see Corey finally remove Myers' Shatner Mask. He drops his Scarecrow Mask and replaces it with Myers' Mask. We slow zoom into the eyes of The Shape. Halloween Ends!
This would negate all the terrible Myers/Corey scenes. No "Quickening" scene looking like watching an old man who hasn't managed a full hard on for 20 years finally get there. No Father/Son murder tutorial nights. No little buddy scenes. Just Corey possessed of, or imbued with The Shape. I loved Alison's character anyway. Halloween Never Ends! 🔪🎃
You could even add a scene where Alison is pregnant at the end. They wouldn't have to come up with anymore bullshit excuses to get the two of them, or three of them together. But it would be hilarious to see a Masked Shape riding down the highway on a motorcycle instead of in a Station Wagon 😆
