The new left, mainly middle class people, live in a guilt fuelled fantasy land. And the working class ones who remain, especially from ethnic groups, are driven by (misguided) anger. So their theories and views are biased, flawed and unworkable. So the ONLY way they can hold power or change things to their way of thinking is to completely cut off ANY criticism or alternative view. Unfortunately, they’re doing a good job of it at the moment.
I like Brendan O'Neill and agree with a lot of what he says. I don't agree with all his views but the point is he is free to air them and I am free to listen and make up my own mind. I'm probably best characterised as social conservative and economic classical liberal; but it's nice to see there's still some genuine liberal-leftists out there.
Brilliant. Had this been the hated BBC the interviewer would have hectored and prevented the point from developing, personally attacked the interviewee and pushed the BBC agenda over and above that of the subject. As Marie Le Pen said "You seem more interested in your questions than my answers"
Nazi schmartzi. That word is simply designed to shut down debate by people who can't manage it and who often resort to the behaviour they accuse others of. It is the ad hominem weapon of choice along with anti-Semitic. Extend your vocabulary, young lady.
Le Penn is hard left, that's why she is supported by so many blue collar workers. Look at her economic policies. It's only the likes of the BBC who label her far right because of her stance on Europe. They realised it didn't fit so are now calling her "populist".
@@spleen5527 stop using words you don't what their meaning is , If were to be known there are very few actual Nazies given the definition and beliefs of Nazism, what you mean when you label someone Nazi is I don't agree with or like your opinion so therefore I will just label you a Nazi to suit my own narrative and try silence your voice you most likely would also call her mysognist, Islamaphobe, sexist , and of course racists ,
I'm no lover of Marie Le Pen but that is a poignant quote to hit back at interviewers whose sole interest is carrying out a calculated smear job to appear virtuous.
That's a risky way of taking a position. Negativity rules in the rightwing ecosphere and people whose first reaction is negative are easy meat for the controllers. Taking a sceptic view of whatever information we come across and testing it from a socially positive viewpoint is a much better way of dealing with issues.

You are one of the luckiest people on earth just like me as I could have exactly the same health problems abroad as here but I’d get chained up in some places not here I know that there are puritanical mutters that run hospitals but they get exposed and punished here unlike where they come from
I’m a big fan of Brendon O’Neill and Spiked and for that matter of new culture forum, honest opinion with intelligent conversation, Peter whittle lets his guests speak (something that is sorely missing in the mainstream media) and he’s absolutely right, we are living in an age where you can lose your livelihood by saying the wrong thing, a silent majority who are being bullied by a noisy minority.
Most hated on UK campuses gives him instant appeal. And people think we should lower the voting age whereas we should be *raising* it precisely so these self-righteous kids still in Uni can have more time to develop their opinions and outlook on life. They haven't yet created an independent existence for themselves without any real life experience have the audacity to think that higher academic achievements somehow gives them a more enlightened view on any political matter. My opinions have changed a fair bit since I graduated, and I dare say the same would be true for many other graduates.
I agree entirely. The voting age restriction is historically there because that's the age that people used to join the workforce and get going. Now, for most of my peer group, it seems that adulthood starts at 30, and the legislation around staying in formal education longer than ever implies that the government agrees that young people aren't equipped to deal with the difficulties of reality yet. As such, we should raise the age to 21 and only give the vote to people who have an actual stake in the country.
@Felix Furball again, I'm very averse to disenfranchising people because they don't contribute. There's a whole manor of reasons why somebody may be out of work, many out of their control. I agree with the lowering of the voting age. 'Its easier to convince young people that paying more tax is a good thing, because they don't understand economics. It's easier to convince young people the military is pointless because they've never experienced the horror of war' 'Its easier to convince young people that government is effective because they haven't experienced it fully' etc.
Not being actually correct is literally the point of political correctness. Just ask the person who coined the term, Stalin. He said, "It may not be factually correct. But it's politically correct."
@@DoctorMandible Before Stalin Lenin was requiring Soviet leaning publications in the West to be' Ideologically sound and Politically Correct.' and it became a catch cry in the young revolutionary Russia.
Even though I’m on the right , I have a ton of time for Brendan. He’s what I call “the decent Left”. The left of my dad and grandfather. The left of Tony Benn and that huge tradition of decent Labour via the Quakers and the Levellers and the Chartists. A decent and entirely honourable tradition. We disagree on economics and we can have a calm discussion about it. And we can come to a centre ground of agreement. Which is how it should be. The New “SJW” Left by comparison are terrifyingly totalitarian and downright cult like.
Except apparently no concern for human rights of small, weak people (still in uterus). Some US abortion law allows killing up to 9 months and Democrats broadly and publicly support infanticide, an obvious extension of abortion, because they mention it in the same breath.

As a lonely ‘middle class’ Brexiteer I have long concluded that self confessed Remainers are desperate to be identified as middle class. It reminds me of Britain 20 years ago when office workers openly eschewed trade unions. This is undoubtedly about the need for social classification. I’m intrigued that remainers are never asked why they support the EU! Marion
There are plenty of middle class Brexiteers. I'm one too. In fact I know a number of upper-mids who are as well. They all live in rural areas though. The upper-mid types in and near London that I know are definitely "woke" and very much Remainers. If you read The Spectator or The Telegraph you'd come across a large number of middle class Brexiteers. I think many of those live in rural communities. There is a class factor as Brendan says but I think there's also a rural urban divide as well. BTW I now live just outside London but for many, many tears lived in a rural area.
I totally agree, I've long observed how PC and leftist politics operates on social conformity. It is a way in which the 'clever' (middle-class) people can distinguish themselves from the 'uneducated' (lower classes). The social Marxist Pierre Bordieu wrote about the way people aspire to and attain social status through conspicuous consumption of consumer goods- it is now the case with conspicuously wearing leftist ideology.
identity politics has become the thing it hates, and they can't see it. they prey on kind, compliant, polite people bending their knee to their ideas. which i have done, so i have to take some responsibility for this monster. we didn't challenge, we indulged the baby and created a narcissistic generation. i grew up in the 90's in Haringey, watched the Spice Girls, played football and drank pints of lager. i stopped watching tv and reading papers over 2 years ago, sourced my own information and my politics changed, almost to the polar opposite of the group think i was expected to toe the line with. in jungian terms, political correctness is the controlling mother (so those in spirituality who say there has been no feminine are in denial, she exists and she's become bitter, twisted and hateful (they've projected 'hate speech' onto everyone else. repression). i'm so grateful for this channel, i'm quiet and i get very fearful about saying how i actually think and feel about anything politically. that there is not right. i can't change the world, i can only change myself, so i take little steps such as leaving a comment on some videos, and if i'm feeling brave, sharing a video or 2 on facebook (which is part of the problem too).
Tracey Glazebrook I have done very similar. I do not watch tv or read newspapers. There needs to be a system other than 'the left', or 'the right'. Capitalism clearly does not work for the 'whole' in the end, as seen in every capitalist system. Neither does socialism work perfectly as proven in socialist systems. Every political system appears to allow greed to percolate to the top. Where could be the checks and balances? So....in the end does not the left and the right eventually lead to totalitarianism? Two paths to the same destination. The way I see it, we are witnessing the return of Judeo-Bolshevism, both from the left and the right. The "Protocols" have something very vital to inform us of what is happening to education, right on up to university level. Get a copy.

Excellent discussion Peter. Thoroughly enjoyed this interview with Brendan. Such an interesting person. I am sure many people wanted to know what “wokeness” means. In itself an absurd word. But we are living in very interesting but disturbing times in this segment of the 21st century. I like your channel because you invite guests who challenge these strange times we live in, and the craziness of how our culture is becoming. Keep up the good work you are doing with your channel ! Many thanks.
the 'Anointed' (classification of a self serving public figure who assumes moral responsibility for others, without their permission, see Thomas Sowell) assumes the role of saviour because of guilt. repressed guilt at the privilege they've experienced. classic psychoanalysis. they've got so much power that they've infected the culture; they have come from middle class backgrounds, gone to uni and because of that taken pivotal roles in media, law, education and the police. so much power over what other people should be thinking.. it is a class issue for sure.
Superb! The thing I love about this channel is that the dialogue expresses so clearly the deep-seated thoughts and concerns I have, but can’t always quite articulate. Keep it up!
The working class (my background) is is traditionally patriotic and always stuffed down at every opportunuity and excluded from the so-called democratic process.

Being woke isn't about being politically correct it is about belittling others to make yourself look better. Why do you think the standard for being PC and woke constantly changes.
Great interview. Good to see an interviewer who knows a bit about the person they're interviewing and can ask worthwhile and important questions. Much better than the BBC these days.
So let me get this right. You can’t speak about a topic unless you have a “ lived experience “ but you can say you’re a woman just because you say you feel Like a woman even though you have NO lived experience as a woman. And around and around we go. Glad I got it right, for a moment I was confused 😐 SMH 🤦♀️
At last a ray of sunlight has been opened by this interview, Peter Whittle listens, absorbs the information takes his time and gives a thoughtful reply, not the standard BBC or current media format of forcing their thoughts. This is the beginning of challenging the rot we have in our society, we are all humans we have the same struggles and pains. Help each other.
When I think about the people who've been honours or peerages over recent decades, I realise I wouldn't want to be seen dead among them. Those baubles are merely rewards for being part of the globalist system (example: Oily Robbins, the Government's chief Brexit 'negotiator' in Brussels, was given a knighthood in Treason May's recent resignation honours list).
Peter C I’d love Douglas Murray on a panel with that wasp Ash Sarkar, he would annihilate her in two minutes flat without raising his voice or even an eyebrow!
joe buffalo I agree, but these people like Sarkar need to remove the huge chips they have on their shoulders first. She’s a race baiter, and the British public have up with this crap longe enough. We are on to them, the sooner they realise it the world will be a better place.
Dr. Who had even had to be changed into a woman! They could've brought back one of the female timelords from the past, but that wasn't good enough. She has to be a woman now. Next incarnation they'll make The Doctor transgender. For years the series had been mouthing more and more PC, but this was the last straw for me!
This is maybe the most clear explanation of wokism that I have come across. I believe many people feel uneasy around it without being able to dress it in words this simply. Thank you so much!
Throughout my entire youth and late into my twenties, I have always been as far left as you can be without actually being anarchist. I have been anti-establishment, anti-authoritarian, liberal and individualistic all my life. Now I get labelled alt-right because I am individualist, not collectivist; because I reject propaganda, group think and censorship. I have always been for free speech, being allowed to scoff at, heckle, criticise and oppose any opinion, ideology or person openly without fear of persecution. Back then, it was a left thing to do; to scoff at, heckle and oppose political correctness in all its forms. I still remember laughing at the lemmings that got a raise from seeing my friends and me sitting on park benches or sidewalks, passing a bottle of cola or beer around, but we never considered any legal action against those scoffers. It was their right to scoff and complain just as it was our right to do the things that would earn being scoffed at. We never hated, we just didn't trust easily either. Dyed hair was a symbol of free thinkers and non-conformists...now it is a symbol of woke group think. The left used to be about individual freedom and liberties...now it is about collective conformity. Anti-Fa used to be peaceful protest against fascism....now it is violent fascism. The left has become what in my youth always was the far right: Authoritarian, censorial, collectivist, obsessed with ethnicity and gender, violent, hateful, ...
Have you read my mind? You could be speaking for me! I feel EXACTLY as you do. I'm concerned that my peers one day will totally annexe me from their social group as they're exactly like the modern left you describe so well. They cannot see what they've become...the very thing they used to rally against!
The “stay in lane” philosophy is simply cultural apartheid and when you have separated everyone into their little groups comes the scary next step, for example this group we have labelled “Nigerians”, we want to keep their culture pure without your negative white influence, so we will now send them all back to Nigeria to preserve their purity.
This man speaks the most sensible of all the younger generation I've heard for a long time...except for my son that is!! Great!! Stop dialogue, control the masses, take over the world.....simple really hey??!!
Last year I left a comment on another post stating how much I resent these antisocial individuals for making me aware of skin colour and becoming suspicious of certain types. Before these 'woke' individuals I never thought about skin colour or even of anyone as different from me in terms of race or orientation. It never impacted on my interactions with people. Maybe that stems from being gay but really I think it's just normal for well adjusted people to be that way. They say they fight for equality when in reality they are enforcing tribal-mentality and creating divides.

A lot of us who have been on the Left our whole lives, and in my case come from three generations of Socialists, are now sick and tired of the identity politics and censorious militancy of the so called new left. It hasn't made me Right wing- just politically homeless.
@@thedativecase9733 I'm a Liberal and I'm now politically homeless

@@spleen5527 stop using words you don't what their meaning is ,

That's a risky way of taking a position. Negativity rules in the rightwing ecosphere and people whose first reaction is negative are easy meat for the controllers. Taking a sceptic view of whatever information we come across and testing it from a socially positive viewpoint is a much better way of dealing with issues.
I woke one morning and realised my family never owned a slave ,always worked ,joined in the fight to save our country from fascists so am I missing something?
@AJ Last 30 is wayyyy too high. I'm 26, a home owner, full time worker etc. Disenfranchising me shouldn't be the aim, as I have a stake in society.

Brendan O'Neill is the 'woke' spokesperson for free speech and democracy. He articulates well what most people are thinking.
If something is *actually correct* , there is no need for it to be *Politically Correct*
Yeah. What is correct is sort of virtuously modified by them
I'm offended by your hate facts.

Dragon Energy I so agree with you , as a old school socialist I-am adrift in a ocean of fools calling themselves socialists ......
Marisa Martin your opinion is based on assumption, as you have not heard him speak on the subject , take up your argument on partial birth abortion in the USA , the only nation that endorse that evil .... most Brits don’t even know of it , it is beyond imagination to decent humans ....
@@myla6135 I'm one, too.
No Remainer can give one reason why staying in the EU is a good idea. Not one.
You are generalising remainers and brexitiers in exactly the same way the ultra left does to races and sexes

identity politics has become the thing it hates, and they can't see it. they prey on kind, compliant, polite people bending their knee to their ideas. which i have done, so i have to take some responsibility for this monster. we didn't challenge, we indulged the baby and created a narcissistic generation. i grew up in the 90's in Haringey, watched the Spice Girls, played football and drank pints of lager. i stopped watching tv and reading papers over 2 years ago, sourced my own information and my politics changed, almost to the polar opposite of the group think i was expected to toe the line with. in jungian terms, political correctness is the controlling mother (so those in spirituality who say there has been no feminine are in denial, she exists and she's become bitter, twisted and hateful (they've projected 'hate speech' onto everyone else. repression). i'm so grateful for this channel, i'm quiet and i get very fearful about saying how i actually think and feel about anything politically. that there is not right. i can't change the world, i can only change myself, so i take little steps such as leaving a comment on some videos, and if i'm feeling brave, sharing a video or 2 on facebook (which is part of the problem too).

Perfect solution
Why not let them have this cold, damp place in exchange for that fertile country they don't want?

Last year I left a comment on another post stating how much I resent these antisocial individuals for making me aware of skin colour and becoming suspicious of certain types. Before these 'woke' individuals I never thought about skin colour or even of anyone as different from me in terms of race or orientation. It never impacted on my interactions with people. Maybe that stems from being gay but really I think it's just normal for well adjusted people to be that way.
