@@mikeeastabrooks6204 Ive deer hunted in 4 States and you all have one thing in common and that's you treat hunting as a business that is good for everyone. Seems to be quite the opposite here in Ont. The MNR seems to like to keep deer numbers low despite good habitat and farmland. Never take it for granted Sir. Here in Canuckistan we have eroding rights and firearms are evil. Thanks for the reply and have a very happy and safe Christmas season.

There are some great pockets of deer in southern Ontario, but when you look at the available land mass that will support deer, which is huge compared to some states, versus the estimated deer population, it’s crazy how low the numbers are. Last I saw was estimated 400k in southern Ontario, and 1.2 million estimated in New York State.
Love my Marlin 336 3030. Just perfect fit for my Pennsylvania Mountains.
My wife bought me one for Christmas, about 10 years ago. I love that rifle.
If that was a slow day, I don’t know if I cud handle a fast day.

Catman really loves that dirty thirty, probably been more deer killed with that caliber than just about any other that has survived the test of time. On the other hand when I'm hunting in the thick stuff I much prefer my .45/70 with a Nikon Slug Hunter scope and see through scope mounts. It's a Beast, maybe overkill but I love it.
Never shot a.45-70. what's the recoil like?
Catman, is that a Marlin 336 with an original 3-9x40 Nikon Buckmaster (not the Buckmaster II) scope? Absolutely perfect firearm for the kind of hunting you do, and my favorite scope of all time. I put one on an HR Handi-Rifle 45-70 in 2007 after MS changed the requirements regarding "primitive weapons," and over the next 15 years I put down dozens of deer with that combo. These days I use a 35 Whelen because MS has changed definitions yet again.
What do you think happened on that first shot? From the look of the entry of the 2nd shot you might be sighted in pretty high for those close distances. Didn't matter in the end. You got your venison for the 57th time this season, LOL! Keep up the great work.

That heron was not happy with your shot AT ALL.😉
I used some heron alerts while pig hunting. The pigs follow the shore and jump the herons and their squawking lets me know the pigs are on the way to the feeder.

I had a scope on my marlin lever 30-30. Missed two nice bucks with it. Replaced the scope with a red dot and I put 2 nice buck on the ground.

pretty sure that wasnt no antlerless deer looked around 3" 😂
I measured them both it was close but both were under 3”
@@RCHuntsreason i mentioned it gamewarden ticketed buddy of mine on cheatham wma an his was hair under 3 but ticketed anyways bc of closeness he checked it in as antlerless .

As the additional gear he uses
Leopold 3x9x44 scope. Its a 30/30 caliber rifle, you dont need anything special or expensive for a scope on it, its a 100 yard deer hunting rifle.
Don't think that's a leupold, Don't see a gold ring on the objective and it also doesn't look like a trim objective. I'm guessing a Bushnell.

One side measured 2 3/8 and the other measured 2 3/4
