Us Greeks don't cut the as those stems have lots of nutrition. Just a good wash and scrub . Boil with salt until soften and the Color goesdark. We eat them with olive oil and lemon. The tea is great with lemon as well. Just a suggestion how we always eat them. Enjoy!
I just made a batch with roasted garlic/ginger oil, lots of lemon juice, dehydrated garlic, low sodium tamari soya sauce mixed together and topped with Kalamata olives, a little feta cheese and red pepper flakes. I saved the juice with added organic lemon juice to drink. Absolutely devastating!
I used to pick the wild Dandelions when they seeded and bring them home and blow the seeds in my yard so I could pick my own. Now I live in the Hi-Desert and I don't see them surviving the climate here. Now I have to buy at the store $1.99 a bunch, can you believe it :)
You gotta know…. Love those greens! We juice them….along with organic carrots, zucchini, etc. Gotta get those minerals into the body…..in raw form. Excellent nutrition. We freeze the leftover juice of it all. We pick up dandelion greens at Whole Foods Market…..or Sprouts Market. Thks for your inspiration about cooking them! Love!!
I'm growing dandelion greens in my aerogarden. They grow super fast and I keep harvesting and storing them in the fridge. I chop some of them raw in my salads but I will cook the rest of them. Thanks for this excellent video.
Thank you! I am terrible cook but I watched this, followed the instructions, and was sure mine would come our bad but they came out PERFECTLY! They were delicious. I am awestruck. I'm addicted and I will keep making these! I even saved the water and drank it - bitter but good at the same time. Thank you for this helpful video.
Yummy, you should try the way I like dandelion; take your washed greens and in a skillet with some olive oil, fry 3 or 4 very large, thinly sliced garlic cloves, on medium to low heat, when they are done, sprinkle with sea salt, and mix with thinly sliced boiled potatoes. Drizzle to taste with apple cider vinegar. Serve hot, or cold. That's my favourite potato salad.
Great recipe and my garden provides enough for 2 persons. Cooking them now! I'm addicted to the Greek horta, so wonderful that i can make it fresh here in Holland, thanx!
Thanks for the tips, the grocery store didn't know if you could cook them, he said only for salads. But it's late in the season (august) and the greens are a bit strong tasting to do salad. So now I will try your recipe I liked how you also told us to keep the water, very nutritious and could store in ice cube trays for later, ingenus.
I ate my first dandelion meal today. Delicious!! I was already trying to start growing my own on my apartment balcony but when the store in walkable distance ran out of spinach I saw they had dandelions and got to start eating them earlier than expected.
you need the bitterness to combat any ailments concerning your kidneys because it cleans your kidneys and make it easier for you to urinate properly and openly so bitter leaves from the dandelion or excellent for your kidneys very great
Oh. i did enjoy, and THANK you! I heard a lot about the healthy benefira of eating Dandelions, and I cant wait to cook me some! You made it look yummy!
I wish if you were my cooking teacher. I’m became a vegan and left my corporate job and old life ...to be honest I’m happy and content now. Simple vegan life is so good
Thanks for sharing this video, i'll bet cut up dandelion greens would go great with any type of mashed squash, with a hint of salt, pepper & some onions or garlic.
Thanks! First time I bought dandelion greens and they didn't have the root part but a good amount of stem and I came looking for a video to tell me whether I should eat the stems or not
There's something different about the dandelions in this video compared to the ones that grow around here. You seem to get way more leaves on a single plant for one, and the stalks themselves are thicker than even very late season dandelions stalks.
Buy them? Personally I just found out about the fact that you can eat them. They grow everywhere, I was always told they are just weeds when I was a kid.
I was wondering if you were gonna throw that tea away? Lol I find it amazing that you have to buy in the store I guess I'm blessed it's all over my state.. Even though I noticed the county tries to kill it.
Guess I'd best learn how to grow my own as the neighborhood pets do their "business" on our lawn every night.😄 (We actually have an abundance of dandelions out front), but don't know what goes by in the night! 😎 (and then mow the lawn & then they are gone)!
When I was a young boy I was sent to live with an aunt. She was very poor Of course , I did not know this, Also, my parents were poor and this, also, I didn’t t know.. So, she would collect dandelion greens and nettles, stinging nettles, to make soup with pork fat from bacon, that is , pig fat from the belly. That would be our dinner. If I was lucky , she might k.make a flat bread, over the coals.
I dont think Ive ever seen Dandelion stems that big and thick. I picked some today to try my first attempt at cooking something with the florets. I think Im already creating a disaster, lol

ok, im not picking on you , i am giving you huge credit,im sure you collect your own too. these so-called weeds are a miracle of hidden knowledge . i have found about 50 i feel comfortable eating but the dandelion is consistently the one that is always there where you are its seems to be there. and the plantain, which is great broad leaf or narrow, but they dont taste too great. Soo THANKYOU FOR THAT, i can id these plants but i am a lousey cook. i make pesto out of them and many of the other greens, mix in salads with the yummier ones like miners lettuce, chickweed and purslane. then dump some oil and vinegar on them to mask the bitter, or just force it down, sometimes i mix with eggs, or the nastier things make tea. the bottom line is eat these things and they will make you healthy. my hero is li ching yeong that is what he did, he lived 256 yrs and was beloved by everyone. he applied this . i hope people realize the wild natural plants are the secret to good health, no need to plant ,water ,buy seeds and its all free. i even eat dirt, clay, charcoal ,sand, ashes, diatomaceous earth, zeolite(silicas) and the pollens ,pine is my favorite.i believe it fixes the progesterone overload causing much breast cancer and prostate. Good luck and hopefully people will read this. shawn
Wouldn't eating earth/clay put you at risk for parasites? Dandelion Pesto?! I love that idea. I made some recently with radish greens and was surprised how well that turned out.
Never dump the water in which you boil your greens. Whatever they are. Simply make a soup of your choice using the left over water. Simple, economical, efficient and best of all tastier! ;-)
nicely done video, btw, you sound very cute, thx......P.S. Val Edwards is a sad human being.I suppose some people just have to criticize to make themselves feel better.
The Oil is fat without nutrients. Thats 120 calories of fat per Tablespoon. You could have sprinkled with flaxseed or chia and gotten omega3's. You could have also sprinkled seeds on them. Anyway that would be a way to get nutients with your fat.
Hello Maria, I am not the video uploader but i can tell you what was said if you are still interested. She took the leafy green parts of dandelion (stem and leaf) washed them thoroughly, then gently boiled in salt water until the greens were limp and flexible but not mushy. She then strained and poured a generous helping of olive oil and squeezed half a fresh lemon over the greens. She bought hers from a store but lots of people enjoy dandelion because they can forage it in the wild (or even most backyards) If you pick your own just make sure you have the correct identification, and that the area has not been sprayed with pesticides. All parts of the plant may be eaten from the roots to the flower, and contain numerous health benefits, but it can be a bit bitter, that is why people boil in salt or add other flavors such as lemon, garlic, pepper, oils, or whatever you think would be enjoyable. Hope that helps :)

Thanks fam! Gonna try it that way 💯🔥

drink I do that; put a bit fresh lemon or orange juice and a bit salt test very good
Olive oil, lemon, crushed garlic, a turn of black pepper for me this will taste beautiful.

I have .7 acres of these things. I'm totally gonna pick some and try this.
Dandelions are EVERYWHERE where i live!
You just have to know how to prepare them so they will be palatable
I heard Dandelions are great for helping with anxiety, problem is I'm a little afraid to eat them. ;)
Don't be afraid, they are delicious.
Mixed them in a fruit smoothie
lol! Same

Perfect Horta well done :) goes great with fish
Vegan tho ;)
Thank you very much
Yummy going to.try them
I like to steam them and dress with wine vinegar. They make a good side dish. I also use them in soup and stew.
Do dandelion leaves have the milky latex? I know that the stem has it. Isn't that latex kind of bad for people?
This plant really good for health
Done made me hungry lol
Great!
where do i get this oil?
can I store this in glass jars if so how long would it be good for??
I grow them on my deck in potting mix- pick and ready all year round
I'm from Croatia!
I am indigenous Montagmard Jarai I ate this vegetable today I picked in my yard
I mixed between dandelion and chicory but alhamdulillah both are edible because dandelion grows in my garden
What do you do with the flowers??
Does this remove the bitter taste? I’ve got one growing and it’s so bitter!
Awesomeness

Same here. Never saw them that big. Have never seen them sold in the store. Now Im wondering if there are different strains of dandelion
There is a variety that is grown by farmers and brought to market in the spring. Yes, they are huge bunches! But as said, they will wilt right down.
@@stompthedragon4010 wondering if they are purely organic
Just eat it as a salad raw with a little endive and another leafy green lettuce mixed w lemon dressing more nutritious
Why! I just learned something new. I never knew you could eat dandelions. Or use in tea.
Try watching the channel, Mr Billy Poe, dandelion root coffee, or the channel Live simple, Live free for Chicory coffee recipe.
Rathikia we call them here in cyprus
i always order horta when in greek restaraunts and never knew it was cicoria(dandelion greens)!!!
Did you say they where sweet?
thankyou
You actually buy them at the store?
Nice. As a Greek vegan I'm going to encourage you to do a Greek gyros and tzatziki video. I have yet to find a legit recipe.
Wait!!!! You buy them? Why on earth would you buy them? They grow wild.
Yes, but the dogs don't care if you're planning to eat them.
Buy them? Personally I just found out about the fact that you can eat them. They grow everywhere, I was always told they are just weeds when I was a kid.
How to get sheed in india
My grandmother used apple cider vinegar for washing hers it gets the bug poop off and these days and all the other chemicals
I would think the leaves and stems would cook at different times. The water could be used to cook rice or pasta.

Don't use the ones that pets pee and poop on. You can blow some seeds into a flower pot with luscious fresh earth and keep away from the critters.
