I read the comments and l realize how most people were insulting him, he is just a mortal man, he’s made mistakes, loads of them, but judgment belongs to God, you might be amazed he will be in paradise and most of us condemning might end up elsewhere, with our self righteousness. I have no information about his actual guilt or innocence. I know he settled the case. That doesn't automatically make him guilty. Sometimes, settling is the lesser of two evils. A long, drawn out court case has bankrupted many people. While he never said anything to condemn himself, he also never said anything that would refute the allegations. As far as I know. He lost me when he allowed himself to be crowned a king in his pulpit. I have one King and he ain't it.
Having said that, I firmly believe he should step down. God's Word tells us to shun the very appearance of evil. The focus of that ministry has shifted to him. Rightly or wrongly so, that's what it is. He has become a distraction.
His overseers should have made some sort of statement. The lack of clarity has left those who supported his ministry confused, to say the least.
If you are in trouble, step down and deal with your depression and suicidal ideology. That is a time to be ministered to and restored to wholeness yourself. God is his source, not that church.
I sincerely pray for his recovery, for wisdom amoung his superiors, and a cleansing for that chuch. I pray the Jesus will be invited back as the focus, Lord and King of both the pastor and the church.

I usually apply Occam's razor to situations in life. There is no complicated conspiracy at work here. Eddie likes the boys. I wouldn't give someone red cent if they accused me of something sexually that I was innocent of. Now, if I was guilty I would love to be able to pay out other people's money and avoid the embarrassment of a public trial. Better yet, many people are still giving Long the benefit of the doubt. +Cruzan I get what you are saying. In our judicial system, sometimes people settle to make the chaos stop. To some onlookers, that means guilt. It's like criminal confessions. People can react the same way, "I'd never confess to something I didn't do". It happens every day though. Whatever happened in that case, we may never know.
I was the Administrator for my church for five years. I had to make sure our pastor never met in his office alone with a woman. You'd be truely disgusted at some of the outrageous things people try to pull on pastors especially when they don't get something they want.
As his assistant, it was my responsibly to cover him that way. His wife, the co-pastor was the first choice, but when she was busy elsewhere, it was me. I keep asking myself who dropped the ball and left him uncovered? The entire thing could have been avoided.

There is a pattern of behavior here. It is insulting to the intelligence of this man's church members. I grew up in church and I saw all manner of malfeasance.
In most instances, the perpetrators were never held responsible for their actions. So many people were hurt while most people sat passively by and looked the other way.
When you are young you witness things and don't really know how to process them. As you get older, you begin to process what you have witnessed and find the vocabulary to describe it.
If Long had no type of sexual contact with those young men , he would have said so. The truth is in what he failed to say. I just want people to think and analyze this incident.
