I got one partly based on your and Tom’s Radio Reviews. It is definitely not the latest and the greatest, but it is a decent, though a little frustrating, radio that can be fun. I use the presets to speed navigation. Earphone sound is pretty good, no hiss that I can remember. I use it primarily to scan the AM band in the middle of the night if I should wake up, or early in the evening when I go to bed. It does a lot for the price.
I have this radio under the brand Akai AWBR305 for over 3 years. Mine had a sticky tape on PCB under a little 12MHz quartz and it keep hanging when pressing buttons especially when low batt. After removing that black tape and cleaning the PCB didn't hang any more. And also draw less power in standby with clock after that. I use it like a clock and disaster radio :)
That’s an interesting fix for sure. The only reason I can see that tape would be under the crystal, would be to keep the crystal case from shorting out something on the pcb. Good to hear you got it fixed. 👍
@@TheRadiogeek At first i've tryed adding capacitors in paralel with batteries and it helped but in around a year it was almos unusable because of hanging/freezing/resetting. To analyze what's wrong with it i've removed that tape to watch the circuit. After that all problems dissapeared 😀
Great review. My experience with GPX radios have been mediocre at best. The buttons on this radio sound very clicky and I bet it must be a pain in the neck to tune. Not sure if I would buy one even for $7.50. Have a good day.
You’re right the tuning is very clunky and not fun to use. I like the big display but other than that it’s probably a pass. Have a good holiday weekend. 👍❤️📻
Wow, impressive! How is its performance on AM/FM? I've seen the brand, I know its an old brand from at least the 70's/80's but never owned them. The front kinda resembles my Radio Shack DX-375. Looking forward to the guts! :) Take care my friend. ~Jack, VEG
Well FM is not bad and the AM is just okay. It’s just a pain to try to tune without a knob and or keypad. GPX of today is a so so brand, a budget brand. Have a good holiday weekend. 👍❤️📻
You got a good deal. I have the Retekess version (V115) of that radio and it lacks a manual tuning feature as well. Seems to like radio China...... lol
I would like to know more about the MW, he ow well does it perform ❓ - sensitivity/selectivity. Also, how badly does this suffer from Imaging problems ❓ 📻🙂
1:38 So this radio is so sensitive it doesn't need an external antenna, and includes an attenuator on/off button(to squelch background chatter from other remote transmitters?)?
I don’t know how functional or useful the DX button is but it looks cool. I think if you clipped on an external antenna it would overload big time. Thanks for watching. 👍❤️📻

Seems to perform good for a $7 radio. The tuning is a little clunky but I'm sure they're shortcuts around it somewhat. Great video!
Thanks! Yes the tuning is odd and not enjoyable to use. If this radio had a full keypad it would be a lot better. Thanks for watching. 👍❤️📻
Seems actually decent for a GPX, but that’s not saying much LOL. Good video, glad you’re back.
Thanks! I know what you mean about the GPX brand. It’s still much better then the QFX brand. 😎

The v115 has a lot more features than this radio. The v115 plays mp3 files and records as well. Thanks for watching. 👍

Nice looking radio, but I need a tuning knob.
I agree it needs a tuning knob and a keypad too. Thanks for stopping by.
For a cheap radio shortwave seems to come in good

@@TheRadiogeek You are most welcome!
That DX option activate a transistor who is shorting the input from external antena to ground.
