I would like to recommend Richard Hawley, one of the finest voices I've ever heard. He describes his voice as the result of 'lager and cigarettes '. Absolutely superb singer. Recommended album. Trueloves Gutter. New album 'In this city they call you love '.
Love the subject and so happy Scott Walkers was first name thrown out there Another 2 names in comments Nick Cave and Marc Almond both did cover of Somethings got a Hold of my Heart And so i put forth the great Gene Pitney I also want to name 2 more alt rock crooners Neil Hannon. aka The Divine Comedy . Stuart Staples : lead singer of The Tindersticks
Very good choices there. Scott McKenzie and Gary Puckett spring to mind. Although not really a fan of these two, I can appreciate one or two songs. Cheers.
Just learned the Bowie was really into the Walker Bros. and Scott Walker in particular which seems that Bowie might have been influenced to hit those low notes by them. Ref. Scott Walker "30 Century Man" documentary on Prime.
I totally agree, and this is my short list : - The Honeydrippers : Sea of Love. - Richard Hawley : Cole's corner. - Paul Weller : You do something to me. - Morrissey : Every day is like sunday - Echo and The Bunnymen : Ocean rain - Suede : Still life - Elton John : Blue eyes. - The Jesus and Mary Chain : About you - Lou Reed : Perfect day. - Josh Rouse : 1972.
Great picks, I’ll throw in a few… Marc Almond : Any Soft Cell release and especially his solo work. Damon Albarn : Any Blur release Nick Cave : Largely his solo work with Bad Seeds
My favorite crooner song is Undun by the Guess Who. Is BC a crooner? ....but he also plays the flute and...SCATS!!!! Mel Torme`could not have done better!
Great as usual, very glad you included Bryan Ferry. But you missed number one in my opinion, as noble savage has already mentioned, SCOTT WALKER. Bowie got everything from him, but he's not as good. Scott outclasses them all. Regards
Bryan Ferry was certainly the first name that came to mind when I saw the subject -- can't really think of other voices to add, unless you want to include the Righteous Brothers. Maybe Billy Idol and John Doe.
I am stealing the phrase "heavy duty crooning", ty 😄 oh so many great names in the video and in the comments! this topic is 🔥 I have to add Jarvis Cocker ❤ and Richard Harris ofc but that's hardly even rock so Idk
"been down so long" and the title track are great but i wouldn't call them crooning in a million years. i didn't know the WFTS ballad "yes the river"-very good stuff! presley as morrison's main influence belongs but....
@@davidzasloff8797 I always thought most of LA Woman was Morrison doing his best Howlin Wolf impression as most of the tracks are blues oriented. Only Riders On The Storm and Hyacinth House really approach the crooner factor.
Scott Walker
Glad you mentioned The Damned, and The Dog is a fantastic track. Also love the song Sanctum Sanctorum from the following album.
Midge Ure of Ultravox, especially on the song Vienna.

Lee Hazlewood
Have to mention the the Brendan Perry vocal on the Dead Can Dance track, American Dreaming. (From the album Toward the Within)

I've always liked Elvis Costello. Songs like "Long Honeymoon," "Almost Blue," and "Shipbuilding."
@@pkmcburroughs Great examples. Costello can croon with the best of ‘em.
Marty Balin
@@user-ki1yc4vx2s Quite the crooner indeed.

Agreed about Jim Morrison. Love “Wishful Sinful” and “Touch Me.” I would add Marty Balin: “Miracles” and “Count On Me,” on Jefferson Starship tracks.
Eric Burdon / Robert John / Richard Thompson / Richie Havens / Dave Thomas
Nick Lowe on his later albums.

Both Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal from Tears for Fears.
@@keithkarlinsky6632 Absolutely 😉
Bryan ferry absolutely
Jim Morrison
Nailed it.
Great idea for a video. I especially love those Doors tracks. Morrison was the ultimate rock & roll crooner, in my opinion.
I agree. 😉
Ian McCulloch from Echo & The Bunnymen, definitely croons.
@@gerardocarroll1158 Big time. 😉
I forgot Blaine L. Reininger
Neil young is the king of the modern crooners
I always thought of Carl Wayne of The Move the crooning type. Especially on the ballads like The Last Thing on my Mind from Shazam.
@@russellkroeker2822 I need to check that out.

Nick Lowe, especially starting with 1998’s “Dig My Mood.” His latest single, “A Different KInd of Blue” is the definition of croon.

Marc Almond : Any Soft Cell release and especially his solo work.
Damon Albarn : Any Blur release

"A Lover Spurned"

Definitely Jarvis Cocker from Pulp and occasionally Brett Anderson from Suede (Pantomime Horses & Stay to be specific)
Bryan Ferry!

Iggy Pop, croons occasionally.
Mick Hucknal of Simply Red and Mark King of Level 42.
