Bryan Ferry's - A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall is a fav of mine. There's a unique version of the song on YT at an awards ceremony with Ferry singing it live w/ Dylan in the audience looking slightly bewildered. Bobby Darin's version of I'll be Your Baby Tonight is another one that I like quite a bit. So many great covers.
I still enjoy listening to Manfred Mann's Earth Band's take of You Angel You. A proggy yet poppy little number from the late 70's that receieved some FM airplay in my neck-o-the-woodz.

The White Stripes - One More Cup of Coffee Jerry Garcia Band - Tangled Up in Blue & Senor (Tales of Yankee Power) Grateful Dead - When I Paint My Masterpiece
How could I forget..Clapton doing "Don't Think Twice It's Alright" at the Dylan 30th...Clapton was on another planet with his guitar work on that one... Watch Steve Cropper at the very end he can't believe what he just heard!!! Amazing!!!!

Great picks, Ty. My one guilty pleasure Dylan cover is Rotary Connection's truly bizarre, psychedelic version of "Like a Rolling Stone." They had to be stoned out of their minds when they recorded it. Welcome to the late 60s.
Ty. great stuff as usual 2 of my favs One of us must know -Emma Swift ( from blonde on the tracks ) And Them’s -it’s all over now baby blue (of course:)
Excellent list. Looking at the comments, a few of my favorites that I don't think have been mentioned-- While I do enjoy the cover versions of "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" by both Them and The Animals, I think the definitive outside-the-box version is by Link Wray from his 1979 album "Bullshot"-- can be heard here: ruclips.net/video/AQVa_-s3N0w/видео.htmlsi=XVEpViojjL_J8AUj Also, I love Ronnie Wood's version of "Seven Days" from his 1979 album, "Gimme Some Neck", The Waterboys' cover of "Girl From the North Country," and last but not least, Al Stewart's cover of "I Don't Believe You", featuring Tim Renwick on guitar and Bruce Thomas on bass.
OK, this will be another long comment from me, because about 15 years ago I set out to put together a mix CD of Highway 61 Revisited made up of only cover versions. It doesn't mess with any other albums, which is fine because you, Tom, barely touched that record (there's one overlap with your favs). I did throw in three bonus covers of H61R-era songs that could have easily been on it. So, here is... Highway 61 Revisited, Revisited 01 - Jimi Hendrix Experience - Like A Rolling Stone 02 - Richie Havens -Tombstone Blues 03 - The Winkies - It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry 04 - Mike Wilhelm - From A Buick 6 05 - Williard Grant Conspiracy - Ballad Of A Thin Man 06 - Mojave 3 - Queen Jane, Approximately 07 - Johnny Winter - Highway 61 Revisited 08 - Bryan Ferry - Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues 09 - Robyn Hitchcock - Desolation Row 10 - X - Positively 4th Street 11 - The Hold Steady - Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window 12 - Thurston Moore - Sitting On A Barbed Wire Fence And there you have it. Some of these were hard to track down -- the Richie Havens version of "Tombstone Blues" was the only cover of the song I could find -- fortunately, I liked it a lot. Bryan Ferry did a whole album of Dylan covers -- he almost got bumped by Neil Young, but Neil had the nerve to change some of Dylan's words.
Nice list and even sequenced in the correct order 😉I think it was pure coincidence that most of the covers I listed were from the John Wesley Harding/Basement Tapes era. My fave Dylan record has always been Highway 61 Revisited.
Me too, although I consider Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61, and Blonde On Blonde a trilogy for practical purposes, and sometimes I like to read Tarantula, too. 😄
@@simonagree4070 you took the words right out if my mouth! I also dug Tarantula. I haven't read it in decades, but in 1974 I took it on a long hitch hiking tour and for months read every morning or evening a bit, almost like The I Ging😅
Rolling Stones, "Like a rolling stone" on their Stripped Album, GNR "Knocking on Heaven's Door" from their Use Your Illusion 11 album! I saw them open for the Stones in L.A. in '89 and they rocked the stadium with this song! The whole audience were chanting the refrain with Axel!
The Byrds cover of Dylan's '' It's all over now baby blue'' from the album 'The ballad of easy rider'' is one of the best cover versions they ever did! The lead vocal by Maguinn, the harmonies, and the great Clarence White playing his guitar to sound like a petal steel guitar,is latter day Byrds at their finest!

You nailed all the essential Byrd's Dylan covers. I like the Flying Burrito Brothers rendition of "If You Gotta Go, Go Now". Also great: Fairport Convention's version of the same song, sung in French for no fathomable reason: "Si Tu Dois Partir" The Hollies had a whole album of Dylan tunes l haven't heard, but "Blowing In the Wind" is excellent. And of the Hendrix Dylan covers, don't we all revere "Like a Rolling Stone" from Monterey? Tom When i first say title of video I thought you were going to discuss Bobs artwork Bob controls every aspect of his catalog and so one has to wonder at the best and worst of his work ( including art work ) My favorites John Wesley Harding and Planet Wave Least favorite Shot of Love and Together Through Life ( love the photo but hate the graphics and composition ) What do you like and dislike of Bobs album covers ?
@@jessem470 My fave Dylan album cover art would be John Wesley Harding. Always thought it had a cool mystique to it. Also Freewheelin’ and Highway 61 is like the Mona Lisa of rock album covers. My least fave is Shot Of Love.
Excellent choices🎉 I would add Them "It's all over Baby Blue" (the definitive version imo), Nico "I'll keep it with mine", Fairport Convention " Si tu dois partir", Brian Auger & Julie Driscoll "Wheels on Fire"😊
This is a fantastic question and aside for Hendrix : All Along the watchtower you could get a thousands of differing opinions I will try keep it to 5 I have a clear favorite : 1. I. Pity the Poor Immigrant : Planxty 2 Si To Dois Partir : Fairport Convention 3.All I Really Want to Do : World Party 4. Mama You’ve Been on My Mind : Bettye Lavette 5.Ill Keep it with Mine : Nico 2 Special Mentions/ moments because not in my record collection I saw Patti Smith last December rip through an venom filled version of Masters of War I was lucky enough to see the Roots perform their take on Masters of War / Machine Gum live ( I’m not sure if thats on any release )
Agreed about “All Along The Watchtower,” by Hendrix and also the Byrds tracks. Also Mannfred Mann’s “The Mighty Quinn.” I might add Eric Burdon’s cover of “Gotta Serve Somebody,” and Rod Stewart’s “Forever Young.”
Let's see Dylan Covers you did not mention Feel my love Joan Osborn, All along the Watchtower Savage Grace, When I paint my Masterpiece The Grateful Dead, To name a few. The dead also nailed Stuck Inside.....Live but I don't remember where.
My picks before I watch yours. -All Along The Watch Tower by Jimi Hendrix -All I Really Want To Do by Bryan Ferry -Blowin’ In The Wind by Peter, Paul and Mary -If Not For You by George Harrison -It’s A Hard Rain Gonna Fall by Leon Russell -It Ain’t Me Babe by The Turtles -Maggie’s Farm by Rage Against The Machine -It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue by Link Wray -Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door by Guns N’ Roses -Mighty Quinn by Manfred Mann -Mr. Tambourine Man by The Byrds
XTC did a very unfaithful version of All Along The Watchtower. Sheryl Crow recorded Mississippi on her album The Globe Sessions. I like Jeff Buckley's version of If You See Her, Say Hello from the Live @ Sin-e Legacy Edition
@@kevtruth That XTC version is crazy. I give them a thumbs up for pure originality. It’s amazing how they progressed from album to album. One of the all time greats.
A list of other great Dylan covers, but mostly only album tracks; Stevie Wonder - Blowing In The Wind (his 1966 version) Stevie Wonder - Mr Tambourine Man Elvis Presley - Tomorrow Is A Long Time Elvis Presley - extended version of Don't Think Twice Johnny Cash - Don't Think Ywice Johnny Cash - It Ain't Me Babe The Turtles - Like A Rolling Stone The Creation - Like A Rolling Stone Simon And Garfunkel - The Times They Are A-Changing Bob said when he first heard Stevie Wonder's version of Blowing In The Wind, it made him think "I'd better pay attention".. But if you want a suggestion of one of the worst Dylan covers, check out Don't Think Twice by The Wonder Who (The Four Seasons) with Frankie Valli singing in his ridiculous Rose Murphy voice. Just heard two different live versions of The Rolling Stones' version of Like A Rolling Stone for the first time, both of which were note for note, quite passable, but not enough to make me want to forget the Dylan original.
For my 60th birthday, my co-workers got me a "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" birthday card. Ha ha very funny. Oh, and Television did a good live cover of that song.
Me too. The Dylan cover is on the live album on ROIR, The Blow Up. It's not the best live recording of the band -- that would be Live At The Old Waldorf (the Rhino limited edition) -- but it does have the Dylan cover.
There's some really good stuff from that 30th Anniversary show (also some cringy stuff, Johnny and June Cash comes to mind). I thought George Harrison was especially tasty ("Absolutely Sweet Marie"). I listened to the whole thing live, and taped most of it.
What, no "Lay BABY Lay" by Cher?? LMAO! I did a version of "Idiot Wind" back in the fall of '91, after being up for 3 days straight. Don't worry, no one will ever hear it! LOL

When i first say title of video I thought you were going to discuss Bobs artwork
Bob controls every aspect of his catalog and so one has to wonder at the best and worst of his work ( including art work )
My favorites
John Wesley Harding and Planet Wave
Least favorite
Shot of Love and Together Through Life ( love the photo but hate the graphics and composition )
What do you like and dislike of Bobs album covers ?
@@jessem470 My fave Dylan album cover art would be John Wesley Harding. Always thought it had a cool mystique to it. Also Freewheelin’ and Highway 61 is like the Mona Lisa of rock album covers. My least fave is Shot Of Love.
Mr. Tambourine Man - Beau Brummels
Ronnie Wood , Seven Days..Bryan Ferry, A Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall.
I'm with you on "My Back Pages"!
Excellent choices🎉 I would add Them "It's all over Baby Blue" (the definitive version imo), Nico "I'll keep it with mine", Fairport Convention " Si tu dois partir", Brian Auger & Julie Driscoll "Wheels on Fire"😊
@@dreammachine2013 That’s an awesome version of Wheels On Fire by Driscoll & Auger.
This is a fantastic question and aside for Hendrix : All Along the watchtower you could get a thousands of differing opinions
I will try keep it to 5
I have a clear favorite :
1. I. Pity the Poor Immigrant : Planxty
2 Si To Dois Partir : Fairport Convention
3.All I Really Want to Do : World Party
4. Mama You’ve Been on My Mind : Bettye Lavette
5.Ill Keep it with Mine : Nico
2 Special Mentions/ moments because not in my record collection
I saw Patti Smith last December rip through an venom filled version of Masters of War
I was lucky enough to see the Roots perform their take on Masters of War / Machine Gum live ( I’m not sure if thats on any release )
The Band - Blind Willie Mc Tell
Isn't there an album with all the Byrds Dylan covers?
@@SH-ud8wd There is actually. It’s called The Byrds Play Dylan on Columbia Records.
-All Along The Watch Tower by Jimi Hendrix
-All I Really Want To Do by Bryan Ferry
-Blowin’ In The Wind by Peter, Paul and Mary
-If Not For You by George Harrison
-It’s A Hard Rain Gonna Fall by Leon Russell
-It Ain’t Me Babe by The Turtles
-Maggie’s Farm by Rage Against The Machine
-It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue by Link Wray
-Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door by Guns N’ Roses
-Mighty Quinn by Manfred Mann
-Mr. Tambourine Man by The Byrds
Since Ronnie Wood got plenty mentions, I'd have to include his version of 'Seven Days'.
Agree. Actually the whole "Gimme Some Neck" album is great!
A list of other great Dylan covers, but mostly only album tracks;
Stevie Wonder - Blowing In The Wind (his 1966 version)
Stevie Wonder - Mr Tambourine Man
Elvis Presley - Tomorrow Is A Long Time
Elvis Presley - extended version of Don't Think Twice
Johnny Cash - Don't Think Ywice
Johnny Cash - It Ain't Me Babe
The Turtles - Like A Rolling Stone
The Creation - Like A Rolling Stone
Simon And Garfunkel - The Times They Are A-Changing
Bob said when he first heard Stevie Wonder's version of Blowing In The Wind, it made him think "I'd better pay attention"..
@@paulgoldstein2569 It’s pretty hard to beat the original of Like A Rolling Stone. 😉
For my 60th birthday, my co-workers got me a "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" birthday card. Ha ha very funny. Oh, and Television did a good live cover of that song.
@@simonagree4070 I’ll have to hear that version. Big Television fan here..
Me too. The Dylan cover is on the live album on ROIR, The Blow Up. It's not the best live recording of the band -- that would be Live At The Old Waldorf (the Rhino limited edition) -- but it does have the Dylan cover.
@@simonagree4070 I have that Waldorf CD. Not on my version. Was there an extended version released with that cover?
Sorry that what I wrote was confusing -- I wrote that it IS on The Blow Up, but NOT on the Waldorf.
@@simonagree4070 😉
There's some really good stuff from that 30th Anniversary show (also some cringy stuff, Johnny and June Cash comes to mind). I thought George Harrison was especially tasty ("Absolutely Sweet Marie"). I listened to the whole thing live, and taped most of it.
@@simonagree4070 I liked Neil Young’s ragged version of Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues. It rocked!
I agree, I just thought it was unnecessary to change some of the words at a tribute show.
License to Kill and Foot of Pride from the 30th anniversary concert.
Lou Reed nailed it.
Yes
What, no "Lay BABY Lay" by Cher?? LMAO! I did a version of "Idiot Wind" back in the fall of '91, after being up for 3 days straight. Don't worry, no one will ever hear it! LOL
