my hair is so fine I some parts that it is see through from the roots, you can take the comb test and not see broken ends so I actually have to shape my hair so It can LOOK healthy, even though it already is, I'm Natural with virgin hair
Maybe the hair needed to be trimmed a little bit more but, what did the client want? The term "scissor happy" is for stylist that cut the hair the client told them not to cut. Do not forget who's paying
But maybe the client didn’t want it up that high. That’s why she said to come back in 4 weeks. That’s probably what she wanted. Like she said some ppl do care more about length
I like the explanation about split ends. This is the first time I totally understand. The past hair stylist I had always gave me hair a cut, not a trim, so I stopped going to them. Also, they never educated their clients . Are you in the New York area? Sandra W.
Great job. I need my ends trimmed but I'm debating on if I want to go to a salon or attempt it myself. I have had horrible experiences with Salons because most that I have been to are scissor happy. Are you located in Dallas TX?
The term scissor happy should not exist...unhealthy long dead ends are not fashionable. They are ugly. Cut the hair if it needs to be, and get your hair on a healthy regimen.
Trust me it does exist. I don’t have any split ends and I had a stylist cut three whole inches off!!! I went from SL/APL to NL I was heated!!! Walked out looking like James Brown Never again!!!!!
I finally cut my mothers and she is going to get another one on Xmas her hair was severely unhealthy and she didn’t want me to cut anything but we agreed on a inch I told her u cannot expect for me to cut no hair however she’s transitioning as well
Swear this my issue I wanna find someone that’s not scissor happy I want healthy hair but the search to find a hair stylist that promotes healthy hair growth is hard in my city...I’m natural so a lot of ppl don’t do natural hair
Ugh, I wish I watched this video before trimming my own hair lol it's so uneven. But its hair and it grow back, but geesh, I wish I wouldve watches this lol
Denny Smitty because the client didn’t want too much length taken off. Oh well she will learn most likely when it breaks off again because I used to be the same way
My new hairdresser was cutting my hair this way. Pulling it to.the side and cutting (bc I wanted to keep length) but I had like 5 inches of very split ended thin hair. The new hairdresser I went to said she was cutting my hair wrong which left "pockets" for thinner hair to come. She instead brought my hair straight up.in the air and cut it kinda blunt to cut the bad damaged hair off. What's the real deal? I'm confused.
do you have any tips for people who are losing hair? I had thick hair but now since I started the no poo method, I feel as though I lost a lot. I've come to the conclusion as to why I am losing hair, it's because I don't have enough oil in my roots anymore. Is there anyway to combat that? And when my oils do come back to how it was before, how long will it take for my hair to gain it's thickness back. I'm only 18 and I am losing hair, I just miss my thick hair
The girl that was trimming my ends and sometimes she would cut my hair her shop moved and I was just wondering if I watch one of your videos would you suggest that I clip my own ends my hair is doing wonderful now I wear buns a lot I use hair rinses semi permanent black hair rinses how often would you suggest that I use a semi-permanent Clairol hair rinse
She needs wayyyyy more taken off!!! I had a stylist pretty much barely cut my ends & it did more harm than good!! You are not even cutting all of the damaged hair!!
Okay so my problem is... I keep getting thin ends. I’m literally doing everything and yet the always come back. I get all the see through ends clipped off... start over ... wear protective styles... wash & condition my hair, limit heat tools to make once every 3 months. I’m oiling my hair and being really gentle... I get alot of fast growth but then my ends are back then and have to get them cut and start all the way over again! Ugh I’m so frustrated I just want to give up and go bald
Ceycie Mateo I have the same issues! For me, I think the hairs probably Compromised from the split end all the way up the shaft towards the scalp. Once I cut the visible damage, days later there will be yet another split. I also blame the cheap scissors I was using. I don’t want to shave my hair off, obviously I’ll just have to live this way for a while. I am looking for some good scissors that are middle of the road so I can cut my own dead ends off at home. Have you found any scissors that work well for you?
Thin spots, uneven hair, does not mean damaged hair. Scissor happy is what stylists are. They talk about split ends, but they NEVER show them to you, and I can't seem to ever find any.. Just because ends are frizzy, or are "see through" does not Eemian they need to be cut, because the hair is in the process of growing and at times, will be uneven. Not all strands grow at the exact Same length. This is why the hair stays the exact same length, year and year, after year.
I have to agree. And additionally, when you are cutting down through the hair...how can you expect the hemline to ever be truly even? If you want your hair to ever go past neck/ shoulder, you fant keep it completely even month after month. Imo you have to let it grow out some, baby your ends wait longer to trim and then do a trim just to n get it past this typical length.
I agree with this so much. In addition I’ve witnessed stylist cutting off “split ends”, then feathering the ends in the same setting. I bet the next time they go in they will he told the feathered ends are split ends.
Virginia Roundtree not at all. But being that hair strands have a life cycle of its own, the OP was simply stating that uneven hair doesn’t always mean damage.
I wish I found a stylist that was scissor happy because I hate going to the salon & paying for a TRIM! I want all dead ends cut & leave with a dusting with damage needs still there. Then they go on to talk about how I will still have my length & they don’t want to cut too much. No you don’t want to do too much work. Just cut the dead ends off. That’s why I’ve decided to watch a bunch of videos & learn how to do it myself.
There were any instructions you were just cutting and talking. The video did not tell how many inches you cut or which direction/angle to cut. I think that the directions to cut at home would be different than an actual professional standing over client's hair. Also the sections were very thick. I'm not used to seeing that in a salon.

Ugh that hair needed 3 to 4 inches cut baby you like my daughter she is fully natural didn't want to get that big chop my daughter still has length and its thick sweety its ok cut it now my baby feels so much better and she can see the difference in her hair.
I reckon so if you feel confident enough and do your research it helps to have a friend who knows how to cut hair. And well the technique in this video is best , hold hair up and cut 45 degree angle. Since I have a cousin who cuts and styles hair that's what she told me. Good luck
I clip trim my own hair/ ends all the time. Been doin it for years. HATE split ends! I section it off, the way the stylist did, n trim it, then trim the nape. If u take ur time u can't go wrong
Just because your hair is thin at the bottom does not mean it's unhealthy. You hair naturally grows thinner at the ends. A straight edge is VERY unnatural. These hair stylists need to stop it. My hair grows greatly when I stop going to the salon. I'm done with hair stylists.
You could be a good politician, because you talking, talking and not explaining what you doing, after watching the video I got no idea how to trim hair like a pro, I just learned split ends are bad 😂😂😎
You did a huge disservice to this clients hair by not taking off the proper amount. She needed more taken off in order for her hair to get back to looking it's best she'll be back in acouple of days with the same issue.
You sound like a straight JACKASS! Did. You not hear her say she didn't want all of the ends chopped off. DUMBASS! You do what the client wants. Not what you want to do
I'm not a stylist but I'm scissor happy and always end up cutting too much of my OWN hair. But ... It's ALWAYS worth it. 💯
More trim videos please!!! They are sooooo relaxing.
The best feeling is letting go of dead ends!!💕
I knew it!! As soon as I start seeing through my hair I cut tht part off no dead weight 💪🏾
my hair is so fine I some parts that it is see through from the roots, you can take the comb test and not see broken ends so I actually have to shape my hair so It can LOOK healthy, even though it already is, I'm Natural with virgin hair
Candi Lea um ok?
I don’t understand why people just don’t get the trim done in one sitting. It cost more to go and get it done in two sittings.
In this case, I think the client was already on a two-week schedule to see the stylist. I'm a one-and-done type of person, so I'm with you on that.
Didn’t she say the client was young and a little insecure about her length?

You are a great stylist. U didnt take off a lot eventhough u easily could of done an additional inch in the back.
Ashley Walters I mentioned that in the video. She I'll be back to get another trim in 4 weeks.
MzStarling I know just thought it was nice you didn't just chop it off. Most sytlist would have even if u specifically told them not to.
Ashley Walters yes so true! Some stylist are scissor happy but I try not to be! I will cut what needs to be cut but no go overboard 😊

What do you as a stylist think of machine like the split ender pro?

Do I have to blow dry my hair to cut my split ends or can I do it with my natural curls
Them ends got to GO!
I have a question.... Are you pulling the hair out at an 90 degree angle when triming the ends?
Thanks for the education..loved this video!
Taunt=tease, taut=pull tightly
This is soooooooo late! But if your client wears their natural hair out how do you get their ends to not be so blunt when they do twist/braids?!
