The best way of exposure protection its to put the fire out at once. A pair of deck guns direct from tanks can deliver a total of 1.000 gpm, and the fire could been controled in seconds, then mop up with the arrivng and full tanks new engines. In this video we can see that not putting water directly in the fire in hig GPMs produces that outcome.
Reviewed it again. Stand by my opinion. Where was a truck with a snorke blasting the main fire while every other hose was on the down wind house and one hose constantly on the upwind house? First truck on site shoild turn on the pumps and dump on the main house hard with the snorkle.
Seems like a lack of avaiulable response coupled to high winds which don't allow the quick knock down of the fire. Agreed protect the xposeres and then kill the fire but there are high winds which make this very difficult
One has to ask, in a city of over 100,000, where the hell was the fire dept. Even in a 60 mph wind, it got a headway way to "easily". Something is missing here as to how it took so long for a massive response.
How long does it take to get more than one delivery on a fire of this size. Dont know where it is and dont care, things can go wrong of course, but this is not good. Brian Former Fireman Wellington. New Zealand.
I think there'd be never an alarm where every unit in our city would respond. That would be 20 Engines, 4 Tanker, 4 Aerial Platforms, 7 Rescue trucks, 13 multi purpose vans, 2 Command vans and 7 Chief cars, 3 pod carriers with 14 containers etc. To the kind of fire seen in the vid I'd say we would have sent Command, Chief, 4 Engines, 2 Aerials, 2 pod carriers, 2 multi purpose vehicles and maybe one Hose truck
Something is not right with this video. We're hearing fire truck sirens for three full minutes and there are so few streams of water in view. There could have been 25 pieces of apparatus working and still the fire goes virtually unchecked ??? How???
Thanks for all the information! FRFD is a great unit and they have saved countless lives and property. My hat goes off to these brave men and woman. JSMatthew~
The report stated that the origin of the fire was unknown but they think that the fire started on the front porch as an accelerant was used. They believe the van caught fire from the heat. No "official" report has been made public. JSMatthew~
seems too me there was not enough crew on scene.. needed mutal aid and keep more lines going to keep heat off the houses on either side and behind if so. i seen a few guys standing around who looked like they didnt no what they were suppose to do. the house too the right should of been get soaked cause of the wind blowing that direction. sorry thats my whole opinion on the whole thing i was a fireman and student so, i just call what i see and what i learned
First; You guys didn't set the fire. Second; you encountered...and overcame, some issues. Third, and most important; EVERYONE went home at shift change. Conclusion; You won, not the fire. Keep low and stay safe brother. Greetings and best wishes from Texas, L-3885.
As I can see I've been on RUclips 2 years longer than you, and not spamming comments with copy pasted other comments to get thumbs up.. I see you're standing in a good position, bro :D
I remember this. Wasn't this across from North Park? This is why they now require so much footage between neighboring buildings now adays (unless it's brick or stone as in the city of course)...
Yes, this is across from North Park, right where the old Carol School was. It's too bad that they didn't have current building codes when they built most of these houses. A lot of properties might still be standing. Thanks for commenting. Stay safe... JS~
Thanks M Rotgans all humans were safe but at least one pet died. You're right about construction materials used and that is the case here. To add the houses are very close together. Thanks for your comment.
Yes. Even if we built wood framed buildings with intumescent-coated wood, no unfinished attics, and non-combustible exteriors (brick or stucco), fires would spread much more slowly, but especially in the cold, wet Northern areas, it's not a priority. Some of the houses built from the 1980s to the present are even worse, with nothing but foam and vinyl siding on the outside and light open trusses on the inside; they really are death traps.
To all of the nitwits that think the firefighters did not do enough to save the burning house--the house was a gonner for sure so they directed their efforts to cooling down the adjoining buildings to save them. If you know so much, become a firefighter and then run your trap.
Several animals died (two dogs and a cat that I know of). I know some of the fire victims who tried to break the windows to get the pets out who where barking and howling and scratching at the windows, but they couldn't get them out. Talk about trauma! It was awful! and it was arson! Who knows what happened to the arsonist--never any public follow up. www.heraldnews.com/x713189763/Investigators-say-arson-caused-massive-fire-at-Hood-Street-home
I will never understand what would ever create an arsonist. What goes through their minds to want to become one to destroy property and possibly innocent and precious lives. Maybe you say for insurance reasons, for revenge, for whatever....there is never any goid reason for this. You know, I suffer from a depression, but this would definitely depress me a lot more. If it is due to a mental illness problem, there's help. This is never the answer. Drugs and alcohol? There's help for that two. This is nonsense.
I totally agree with you. Arson is a cowardly and senseless act. I have no idea what goes on in the mind of somebody who would do such a thing but it is obviously pure malice. Regarding depression, there are many resources out there such as therapy and counseling that can help you work through the underlying causes of depression, whether it be a chemical imbalance in the brain or for other reasons, or even both. Of course I am not a doctor but I would always suggest that anyone dealing with depression or other mental health issues to seek professional help. There is plenty of help and resources if you are willing to seek them and make use of them. I wish you the best of success in your life Journey. Thank you for commenting.
some pissed off divorcing person perhaps who didnt want the house but their share of the cash? That happened in our town but the insurance was not valid due to the arsonist being caught .
@CoDkIlLeR4100 The investigators believe it was arson. They have a "person of interest" and I have yet to hear about any arrests or any new information.
@@johndoyle3742 All depends on how they ordered the equipment. This needed drowning. Deck Guns are the fastest and most versatile Big Water tools a department has.
damn, that house went up like it was soaked in kerosene! i hate arsonry and i hope the person gets caught, but i will say this, they know what theyre doing to set a fire like THAT and even the exposure is giving em hell this could have easily spread throughout the entire block..
and whoever did tht isnt cool....... i really do miss fall river though thts where i was born and raised for 12 straight years and now moved to florida
Some fireman just has no brain ...if you attacked the main fire it would of been much better.... but no...........they just keep spraying at the building next to it to prevent fire from spreading In this case bad call dude....!~~~the flame would of redused to half if they attacked the main fire in the first place.....
It's a wonder that the other houses didn't go up in flames too. The fire fighters soaking them down probably saved them.
Great footage. How many alarms was this?
I am not sure.

Did the FD get there before the fire went out on its own?

Is that some sort of service truck, or contractor's truck out front?
Until your ready to walk a mile in a fireman's boot stop with the negative comments.

did the arsonist set that van on fire or did it catch from the heat?
Good capture for this video, bJ.S., I subscribe to your page, you have a steady hand!
how did this happen in the first place

Fucking bad situation with the windy weather and the smal distance between the buildings... But why there are no more firefighters?!

Easy to armchair QB this but I really think a couple deluge guns would help here. That's one hell of a fire!
+JB91710 Absolutely agreed. I'm looking at this thinking "Big fire, big water". Hit it with what you got.
Even today, we need to figure out how to get water onto the flames. There has to be a faster and better way.

Did anybody notice the van
i remember this! my fam didnt get to see it burning but we did she it after it was burned and it was crazy
Fall River, MA Isn't that where Lizzy Borden took an axe and gave her father 40 wacks? When she saw what she had done, she gave her mother 41.
Hi, welcome to RUclips, where you click on a video, and viola! it takes you to the video that you clicked on.
I remember my house caught on fire when I was 5 or 4. Saddest day of my life
Where the hell is all the water lines. Sounds of engines, no firefighters or water? Gotta question the call!!!!!

Another typically ignorant post from our resident airhead. Are you as paranoid as you are stupid, JB?
i hope evey one was ok i felly sorry for thos pople :(
Wtf........1 hose......??
As far as I know, no one has been charged although they do have a suspect.

Just one massive fireball...That must've been hot, even from where the vid taker was standing...
wow that was a bad fire it even caught the van on fire thanks for posting
The van was what started the fire. It was arsen. The van exploded with fire and the winds quickly took the fire t the other houses.
What a completily incompitant fire department. There is no excuss for the other two houses burning.
TFT Monsoon, and this fire is over.
