Believe it or not - I`ve been studying English from 1-st grade and somehow managed to get through all the tests/exams and never truly figuring out what are the differences between these two tenses. I know this is ridiculous, but this is true. I`m immensely grateful to you for parsing out the minutiae and taking the time to explain it. I have to be honest, I feel confused a bit, since I basically have to forget all the info that I have learned through the years and learn these simple things de novo. Again, big thanks for your work!

I'm a pretty oldman from Kerala India. I'm a retired teacher of English. In India people take the present perfect tense for a past tense form. Ma'am clearly made us understand that in the present perfect tense we are not interested in the past action but in the present result of the past action. I think the teacher could have given more concrete examples. Thank you ma'am.

    Hi everyone,
i always struggle with these tenses. I know exactly how they are built.
However i face quite some problems using them especially in speaking. But this lesson helped me utterly.
I think the general take away for everyone who has the problems that i have should be:
    Past Simple -> focus past,
Present Perfect -> focus now, What are the consequnces of this action?
I hope i undestand it correctly.
    For example:
    A:Have you watched the video?
    B:Yes, i have.
A:What do you think about this lesson? Did you learn something interesting?
(So, i assume that. Someone have seen the video that means they are well versed with video. I can ask what they think about it. )
Am i right? Can anyone confirm it?
I wish you all the best in learning English.
    Have a super sparkly day.

Since I (came) here, I (study) in this school.
I put both of the verbs in present perfect cause they're two actions unfinished and we have the key since.
But the teacher tell us that the first verb must be in past simple , I'm confused now which is correct and why?

wow, it's amazing, I understand why you have the two(three?) past relating expression for the first time. Someone told me your flight had gone to me. I notice now she wanted to tell me I did not have at that time. There were a difference. Thank you.
