Actually its usually based on the majority. Stereotypes come into existence because they are as a generality true. They never tell the story of the individual. Personally I find the greatest amusement from an ugly reality. The ones who scream the loudest about stereotypes, racism, and generalism often are the worst practitioners of it. Left, right, rich, poor, educated, uneducated, law enforcing, law breaking, typically the more the scream the more they themselves are guilty. Generally speaking.

I know Trade Federation was bad, but:
    - Genocide, by burning equivalent of kindergartens with babies inside
    - Bans from going to planets
    - Being stigmatized as a plague carrier when you're not
    - Having your company, jobs for which your species worked millennia for taken away.
    - Being so hated by your appearance and culture, you try to adapt to a less controversial and more liked culture in the Galaxy of relative species and even then get hate for it being a poser.
I understand if members of the Trade Federation were replaced with ''nicer'' members of their species and with war criminals being punished, but what happened to them was simply terrible.
It is also worth mentioning that the reason why the Trade Federation associated with the CIS was all Palpatine manipulation and if they refused they would be on a hit list of a Sith.
Also, also, look at their scared faces. They look so cute and scared!

Darth bane was actually saved in his youth by a Neimoidian bar owner. He helped Bane after he killed several republic officers.
You'd think from the stereotype alone that the moment he saw the wanted man he'd turn him over for easy money, but instead he helps him off-world, where he joins the Sith armada.
Stories like that show you how often wrong stereotypes are.

I’d just like to point out, that while Nute Gunray was no Angel, he wasn’t bad as you may think. For the most part, he was threatened and coerced to be the leader of the Trade Federation by Sidious, and (most) of the bad things he did was under orders of Sidious. If it was up to him, he’d be living a quiet life, behind a desk as a clerk as he makes deals to hutts with debatable morality.

"That wore weird hats and costumes."
I disagree, it reminds me of clothing from the Renaissance era, particularly Italy where it all started, but also Spanish wear when it came to their soldiers.
I read a comment on another video by Eckclips about the Lucrehulk, the commenter said that the ship reminded them of how sea ports use to look like, particularly Carthage which was a major trading port.
If anything, the prequels show the real world problems with the Mercantilism system.

    • @TheThingInMySink
      @TheThingInMySink 2 года назад +1

That's not really how sea ports used to look like, ''Cothon'' style ports such as the one in Carthage seemed to have been fairly popular specifically in the Phoenician world, a few of them can still be seen though of course none of these are actually functioning in any capacity. The Cothon at Carthage was also only reserved for military use, and merchant ships made use of another rectangular port outside of the Cothon. It's likely that most such ports were for military ships as those are typically your most valuable ships, and you'd want to keep them safe but ready to go at all times, while merchant ships might travel from port to port only staying long enough to load and / or unload, which means that going in an out of such a circular port as the Cothon in Carthage would have introduced needless complexity to the whole process, not to mention the very limited capacity such a port would have.
These types of ports seem to be particularly a Phoenician thing, I'm not aware of any such ports existing within the borders of Rome at that time for instance, although that doesn't mean they didn't exist, they seem to still be more the exception than the norm. There is one in Sicily but it predates Roman rule, and seeing as Sicily was also under Carthaginian influence for much of it's pre Roman history, it again is the exceptation that strengthens the rule, rather than the other way around.

Must admit that Neimodians also reminded more of medieval genovese & venetian or german traders of the hanseatic league, than anything asiatic.

I think the reason Palpatine picked Gunray as a main Sith ally is because of his traits. He is extremely cruel but is stupid and very gullible. Rune Haako would've been a much more capable leader because he was intelligent, clearly had some sense of loyalty, and wasn't as cruel. In TCW he is never seen partaking in the deeds of the other CIS council members, so either he had genuine interest in the CIS or he didn't trust the sith as much as the others did. The Dofine family seemed to be far more practical and strategic, and from what sources say it can be seen that the Neimodian army has honour codes and some form of moral code. For example, Neimodian troop transports are unarmed ships, while other TF vessels are armed for protection and sometimes aggression. the governments of the Neimodian purse worlds may have had a genuine want to be a part of the CIS, and we see that the citizens rally to form a militia to fight the republic. Joining the CIS didn't benefit the Neimodians; just look at Cato Neimodia under the Empire (and their neutrality under the First Order) and you can see that it remains much the same despite the neglect other CIS worlds received. The Republic loyalist had no qualms with the neimodians because they needed the Trade Federation to act as a shield from the reality that the Republic was a corrupt cesspool. They hid behind the fleets of Lucrehulks and at the last minute their chancellor who still had morals begged the corrupt monks who they hired as traffic cops to stop the TF, the ultimate betrayal. I think the Neimodians had different morals, but it wasn't the majority that had a negative impact on the galaxy.

"Do you blame the individuals who act poorly or do you blame the system which is incapable of protecting ordinary consumers from predatory business practices?"
It seems like you're trying to suggest that the answer is the latter, but the answer is both. You blame both of them. It's completely removing all responsibility from the individual to be like "Oh yeah, sure, he treated his customers like shit and made them all have to pay exorbitant prices because he could, but that's not his fault. That's the system's fault". Yeah, the system allowed them to act predatory, but they still have to make the choice to be an asshole and do so. You can't just pretend that people who take advantage of an opportunity to do bad things to further their own goals are fine and have their hands completely clean just because they didn't necessarily create that opportunity themselves.

Differences between Neimoidians and Duros: Neimoidians have grayish skin tones, tend to look wrinkly, and often have worm-like lips, with a subtle line through their eyes that breaks up the single-color orb look.
Duros have blueish skin tones, smooth skin, barely seem to have lips a lot of the time, no line in the eyes, and their mouths show sharp teeth frequently when they speak, similar to Twi'lek men. Neimoidians have never shown teeth that I've seen.
Most often, they can be easily told apart by clothing anyway, because Neimoidians often wear more decorative and sometimes elaborate stuff, while Duros wear simpler clothes which usually look closer to some of what real people wear, like suits resembling an astronaut or Cad Bane's western look.

The villains have to be... something: male or female, black or white, English or French, etc... If you have a character, it has to be something, so assuming: well, this villain is evil, not because of what he does but because he (or even they if its an entire fictional species like in SW) is [whatever]" is insane. Meaning, is it "racist" that the imperials are mostly English? and even men, at that? Does George hate Englishmen and is he a mysandrist? No, the imperials were bad because they did bad things. So why was so many people bothered when other villains have a different accent other than English? it's beyond stupid.

While I do agree with you that accents and stuff is not really a proof of discrimination, Imperials having British accent was actually brought up several times by people back then. At the very least my parents still maintain the idea that George Lucas doesn't like the UK. It's just that internet wasn't a thing then, so people would only gossip in small local groups, instead of using SNS or web forums to shout out to millions.
Also it really doesn't help that Nute Gunray's name is a combination of two people that Lucas really hates... so I do see why a lot of people may think that Neimoidians are Lucas' personal hate sink.

I always imagined the fact they are visually "fly people" was supposed to be an on the nose mockery of overly greedy industrialists and merchants, like a bunch of flies frantically buzzing around a pile of shit as soon as it hits the grass.

Fare is what you pay to ride public transit. Simple reality, we are not made equally. Some are smarter, some are stronger (mentally and or physically), some are more tenacious, others have greater endurance. Using whatever strengths one has to improve their odds of survival is Darwinism at its heart.

So in the end, the Republic is ultimately at fault because the Senate ony like to eat but not to work. So they solved the problems by allowing the megacorporations to do whatever they pleased in the Outer Rim while the Republic decided to sit at the Core Worlds that is full of luxury and beauty that were brutally exported from the Outer Rim by the megacorporations they placed in charge there. So yeas, Count Dooku is right. The Republic is beyond repair and it is time to start over.
Also, if there is one thing Attack on Titan taught me, it is wrong to judge an entire species as bad and/or evil just because some members of that species' society are bad people.

Am I the only one who thinks Kaminoans get the same treatment? The only good Kaminoan is the Jedi who was discriminated against and left her home in the Republic Commando series. This is a series where the heroes usually are only the special forces clones and their Mandalorian parents while everybody else either abandons their “morally inferior” lifestyles to join them or stays being morally inferior by sticking to where they are. Karen Traviss may have made a great military series, but she kind of lacks nuance that can be seen in other Star Wars works, praising Mandalorians and special forces clones over everybody else. At least the Bad Batch show that you don’t have to be with the main cast to be a good person. Anyways though, one thing Traviss does have similar to other creators in Star Wars is only showing the leadership and important figures in Kaminoan society. Sure, we hear about the caste system from Kal Skirata, but otherwise the only Kaminoan characters we meet in Canon and Legends are politicians or scientists. In Canon, the only Kaminoan not on Kamino we meet is in the sequel trilogy, a crime gang leader in prison. It’s like we’re being told the Kaminoans are nothing else besides cold eugenics scientists who only give a damn of whether their clones are perfect and making a profit off them. Star Wars is great and all, but I have to admit it falls into the science fiction/fantasy trap of making some species acceptable to hate entirely, with the few good guys among them being those who cast off their society as a whole. In Star Trek DS9, we see all the non-human characters, many from governments and organizations quite different from the Federation, adopt Starfleet morals while also retaining their cultural identity. Worf is still a Klingon at heart and a stickler for tradition like in his wedding. Garak still tells lies and isn’t immune from doing dirty things to help the Federation or repair his reputation among his people so he can return home. Quark is still as Ferengi as ever even when he becomes a nicer bar owner. Major Kira’s devotion to her culture is a major part of her character. And even Odo whole softening up still believes in everything being in order like the other Changelings. Meanwhile with the Kaminoan Jedi Kina Ha, she just doesn’t resemble a Kaminoan at all besides in appearance. This is due to being gone from her home for thousands of years. I question if there is any part of her culturally still Kaminoan.

I agree with most of what you said, except the part about corporations avoiding 'shady' dealings; to name just a few, there was that time the United Fruit Company "accidentally' started a civil war in çuba, or that time coca cola caused a drought sending thousands of people into poverty, or that time Nestlé told new parents in South America breast milk was bad for their babies just so they would buy baby powder and mix it with unsanitised water, or that time Elon Musk convinced the US government (trump administration) to overturn a fair democratic election in Venezuela and installed a sympathetic dictator in exchange for control of Venezuela's lithium reserves. I'm sure you get the point, most of the time people get rich by being greedy and having 'shady' dealings.

That's not true the Americans and Elon musk called it bullshit, China should be in human rights council to say otherwise is just racist, do some research even musk and the US admitted their was nothing wrong with election and they wanted the lithium. You're chatting bullocks, you have no credibility, not a single country said the election was rigged only the trump administration and musk, the current administration in US has admitted it was an act against democracy.
