    Thanks for posting this. I managed to change this (yes, low beam) without taking the liner off, but your video sure helped to know what to do. Removing the top two bolts for the light and pushing it gently out a bit gives an extra couple of millimeters that were well appreciated. I would add that the plug to the bulp fits either way, so just note which side is up before removing it.

    I just did mine (2002 Estima) by undoing two bolts holding the fuse box, above the headlight area (under the bonnet) allowing it to just move to one side to gain easier access to the bulb openings. Took 10 minutes total to change low beam. You can see all details re: bulb retaining clips and the 'unscrew' opening, with assistance from a small mirror. Much less messy.

      What's the lens no. on yours, please ? Some've said here (Australia) that it's a sealed unit, HID bulb w ballast, can't just replace the bulb ? ( my lens no. 28134 )

    Thank you for this video, it helped me replace the bulb on my Previa. I actually managed to replace the bulb on the driver side (left hand drive model) a couple of years ago without having to go through this procedure, but this time on passenger side there was just no way to get it done without your advice to access it from the wheel arch side. It was still an awkward procedure due to wires and tubes in the way which really made it hard to properly place the cover back in.

      Thanks for the comment, yes the other headlight on the drivers side on this car is easier to get at, its a bit of a nuisance on the other side.

      This was a 2001 previa, the old 1994 seems handier to work on in most regards.

    It is a nightmare job - the must frustrating thing I've done in decades - literally. Considering this is supposed to be achievable at the roadside with your emergency bulb set it is an appalling design. Having struggled for well over an hour I applied a sparing amount of silicone grease over the o ring seal and that made the world of difference. Also, the bulb cover is keyed and only goes back on properly in one orientation. When you first remove it, make a note of where it started and where it was when you were able to pull it off.

  • @johnrroberts7900
    @johnrroberts7900 2 года назад +1

    Mine is the identical year but all you have to do is pull off the connector, rubber cover and bulb clips (under the bonnet). This applies to Japanese 'home market' Estima-style headlights.

  • @pitel23

    Can be done just with "golden czech hands" from just under the bonnet, it took for the first time aprox 45 min, but still better than "wheel off version".
    1)
    remove the light gray cap, including the attached wires (don't disconect the wires)
    2)
    put the light gray cap on the side towards the fairing
    3) disconnect the wires from the bulb (H7 in my case)
    4) open the bulb lock
    5) change the bulb, check that the bulb is in the correct position, from the front - through the headlight
    6) close the bulb lock
    7) reconnect the wires to the bulb
    8) put the light gray cap back (click, no turning)
    9) have a beer and swear at Toyota engineers

      geoff bongers what is wrong with these car designers?? Are they all nuts in Japan? A simple head light that can go out with a few bumps takes a mechanic to dismantle part of the car? Even getting in from the other side is a struggle!

    Unfortunately this is a diff headlight unit to my 2001 Estima (Aeras). Low-beam's gone, same as this one, but been told mine are HID gas-filled, w a 'ballast' ('puter sub-assembly) to up the voltage necessary. Apparently it's a sealed unit, can't just replace a bulb. I've searched Australian sites for a 2nd-hand one, no joy. Toyota Oz don't wanna know as these are 'Grey' imports, imported privately. Some parts are same as a Tarago, but other parts, like headlights, are not, darn it.

      Just found out from someone in the trade that the 'Lens No.' is the significant identifier w these puppies... mine is "Koito 28134" ( followed by "HC - HR 32" )

      ... which would imply the bulb IS replaceable, tho' difficult ?

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  6 лет назад +1

      Im not too knowledgeable on the differences between the different versions Toyota sold the previa as, but HID lights were probably fitted to the Japanese market cars.
      Speaking from working on my Citroen C5 it had the ballast mounted externally of the headlight and the HID bulbs were replaceable, quite a lot more expensive than conventional bulbs but replaceable nonetheless.
      An owners club for your model of car would be the best place to ask, as they will have the knowledge of the parts required.

      @@peugeotCitroen2CV Correct. Just a different style of headlight here, that's all. I own one of these. The absolute mother is accidentally spilling oil down the back of the motor when refilling - owing to the tuckunder nature it can't be all wiped off so the stink of hot oil comes through the vents after leaving the motorway for the next five years or so, lol. On the previous 2001 model I owned I did it; on my current 2001 model the previous owner/workshop had already did it for me so I am forgiving, lol lol.

      If i recall correctly back in 2013 i was using a Cannon Legria FS306 by no means top of the range as camcorders went, certainly most phones now provide a clearer resolution now. It was ok for its time, but it shows how much better they have became in recent years.

Whatever happened to being able to change your headlight bulb at the road side ? Made me laugh loudly where it said 'bad words are said at this part' ha ha.
