The perm papers made my hairstyles a lot more neat! Thank you for that tip. Also, the tip about the temp of the water for perming Kanekalon and how you don’t have to wait for the hair to fully dry before removing the rods was super helpful so that I could achieve wavy hair instead of super curly hair! And she's done it again! Your restorations are top notch. A 10/10 grand slam. Sitting on the edge of my chair all of Superstar Barbie week! Keep it going, girlie
You did a magnificent magnificent magnificent restoration!!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖 Maybe we can all take a trip to the Connecticut lake where in 1978 I lost my Superstar Barbie’s head. 😢I swear I’ll never get over that day! Looking forward to “Superstar week”!! 💫⭐️💫
❤she looks fabulous! I learn so much from your videos. Right now I’m trying my best to thatch and not doing to good. I’ve watched your tutorial on it several times, but practice makes perfect…right?! 😂 Thanks for this informative fun video!
What a gorgeous restoration of Super Star Barbie! I have one that I need to restore too. Her hair is good, she just needs a dress. My thing is sewing reproduction clothing for the dolls I restore. I have never done any hair rerooting. Most of the dolls I restore I donate at Christmas time to children's charities. These are usually the modern Barbies. When I find thrifted vintage Barbies I usually keep those for myself. The kids actually seem to prefer the newest fashionista Barbies anyway.
Hey Girl - you have inspired me and I'm going to talk about your channel on my channel in an upcoming video. I started collecting Gene Marshall dolls - recently bought 3 from ebay and they are in great condition for the price I paid. I need to do a little light restoration so I'm about to dip my toes into the restoration world. I used your playlist as a kind of crash course - I watched them all - took notes and assembled a little restoration kit based on pretty much everything you said. So you'll see how it goes in an upcoming video (in November!). But I am really so appreciative of your videos because I've learned a lot. Thank you!
I can’t believe you’re doing a superstar, Barbie. I’ve been experimenting for a week on eight different original superstar barbies, trying to get their hair back to the original color. I have succeeded😊 and I can definitely tell you that all of them even from different countries have 2 toned hair. I wasn’t sure at first because especially the ones from the Philippines look like they had hair that was all the same color. But sure enough they have highlights in the front! Can’t wait to see the rest of the videos this week.
Beautiful reroot! I'm proud of you too! I am always working on dolls as i generally go thrifting twice a week. I found a nice hunky Hercules last week to go with the two Megaras I've found. Yay! 1996. I also thrifted a Sleepover Sunny Rainbow High Jr High last week. They are still on Amazon. All she needed was to have her hard hair glue washed out. $5! Poor girl wasn't loved... Rejected and discarded brand new. I also found two dressed Superstar era Barbies, one Saran, one kanekalon. They're all cleaned up now. Today I found a nude collector Star Wars Amidala, a My Scene boy doll in a beautiful Western shirt, a nude Bratz, a nude Scary Spice (my third or fourth), and a chubby adorable 12" vinyl Kewpie in her box, still had tissue wrapped around her limbs and torso, two official tags, and a "Bluebird of Happiness" outfit. Perfection. The Amidala, Spice Girl, and Bratz need work done. ❤️
Your thatching is impeccable, I’ve never seen someone do it as tight and seamless as you! Also amazed that you don’t use glue in the head even with the rerooting tool method! I’m not a fan of using glue because, as you, I’m afraid of how it’ll react to the vinyl down the road. That’s why I always use knots for the most part. Great video I’ll def be watching more in the future
What a fabulous makeover!!! She looks perfect!! 😍 Very timely, I’m actually working on rerooting a similar Superstar Barbie right now, but using a warm brunette 🥰 My last restoration was a Standard Mod Barbie I got off FB marketplace. She was very dingy, but using your tips, I was able to make her look so much better! I appreciated that you showed how to do the hair in one of your videos, very helpful! I’m going to separate some strands to put along my leg while I reroot soon 😄 😆
I love Superstar Barbie. I just struggle to find one that needs tlc, but also I struggle to find the outfits and accessories to restore one to the former glory. As always love your videos 🙂
The outfits for me is where I find the most enjoyment. It is unfortunate how rare they seem to be. I think a reason why they’re so hard to find is because it’s very hard to identify them! They weren’t labeled properly until 1980. So that beginning stage of superstar fashions are just so rare.
i just got a western barbie and i was watching your restoration video while i was washing her and kissing barbie to get them ready to start the restore tomorrow. fingers crossed mine ends up like yours 😭🙌🏼 i also watch your thatching video every time i need to restore any barbie that needs it. thank u for that!!
Love this! I'm not a Superstar collector, but I love the details, the history, and the Brady Bunch movie clips! Currently rerooting a Twiggy cuz (as you said, re: Casey) her hair was brittle as hell.
I think the only time I’ve used thatching was when I rerooted a Pretty Choices Barbie. I had to do it on her bang line. I did not enjoy it one bit. But I had to learn how to reroot a 90s doll with bangs because a friend had commissioned a reroot on his totally hair Barbie and I had no example to go by. I never owned totally hair. But it was a good learning experience to do pretty choices first - that way I wouldn’t f up totally hair.
You have inspired me so much! I LOVE the pastels on barbies, and I did my first reroot lashes on 4 dolls.I did a total make over of an early redhead bubblecut barbie, and she looks like endora from Bewitched with her acrilic touch ups! I also took plain old 1970s Malibu Barbie and extended the back of her brows a bit and added a touch of eyeliner and she looks GREAT now! Thank YOU so much for sharing with us!
Loved the video! I have used your blushing and face recolor with pastels tips and tricks on my TNT barbie and it worked out amazing! I just finished working on Day to Night Barbie, although I am lacking big time on Barbie clothes at the moment. Thrifting where I am is pretty mehh... I have no issues finding naked Barbie, but never clothes 😢. ♡♡♡
I’m so happy they work for you too!! And YES!! I always find the dolls but where are the outfits? It’s like going to flea markets and you find the cases. And it’s always a dream if the dolls are in the cases. But then they’re not and you’re just stumped being like where’s the dolls, outfits, and accessories now?
@@disneybarbiegirl615 Exactly! And buying the outfits online hurts your wallet... I guess my Barbies can just hang out in the nude for a bit longer lol
I have an orginal Superstar Barbie still in the box! Such a stunning doll. I really do love those early Superstar Face molds. Probably my favorite mold after Steffie. Also, this doll and Superstar Christie were the only dolls that used that hair string packaging technique correct? I don't remember any other Superstar dolls having them, not even the SuperSize dolls. I know some dolls that came out around then (Fashion Photo, Kissing Barbie) just used a rubber band to hold some of the hair back. Later packaging seemed to use mostly rubber bands or even twist ties sometimes.
Actually supersize dolls did have them, at least the early ones. Mine which I got mint in the box still has hers. The hair string method actually spawned from the 60s. AG dolls, Francie, Casey, hair fair, and twist n turns(minus Marlo flip and ponytail Stacey) had them. At some point they replaced those with just plastic cellophane. Then when superstar Barbie appeared they brought them back. Her hair had neck strings, as well as two rubberbands separating the two hair flips. Why they didn’t just use the rubberbands is beyond me. But it was until 78. So it was for a short while! So should be superstar Barbie, Christie, and the two supersize dolls of Barbie and Christie should have them.
Hi How you fix the strands of hair inside the head? I used the knotted method, a long Strand knotted in the middle and one end with a thread in one plughole the second end of the Strand in the next plug beneeth. So the knot in the middle lays inside between the two plugholes. It is completely secure and no hair comes off again. The Superstar doll looks great again, I did one with brunette Kat silk Saran hair and copper red Highlights, just like the Christie doll. Greetings from Germaby! ❤
Your doll looks perfect, no notes. Love how she turned out. I've had a 1978 Fashion Photo P.J. doll waiting to be rerooted for literal YEARS, but I have been dragging my feet. The poor dear has a freakin' MULLET if you can believe that. It really is a crime against Saran. I've only ever done the lock-and-loop rerooting method, because I also don't like glue in doll heads, and I love how strong lock-and-loop is. I am really tempted to try your technique though, because it looks MUCH faster and it looks plenty strong. I have so many great dolls that need reroots, it's really a shame that I don't buckle down and do it. 😩 I've deboxed SuperStar Barbie and Christie dolls before, and every single one of them had melt marks from the dress and from the cellophane tape that holds the necklace in place. Such a shame that even being NRFB doesn't protect dolls from damage. But I guess that's one reason I seldom have any qualms about deboxing NRFB dolls. I always want to get rid of all the tape and rubber band residue and make the dolls look pristine again. And NRFB dolls are often filthy, as you well know, lol.
Thank you!! ☺️ Aww I understand what you mean by dragging your feet. I have several projects like that. RUclips actually helps me to get things done. As I have all of you who can either learn or be entertained or both, while I do what I do. So it gives me a drive. But I won’t lie and say it’s not a chore to record everything. I have so much faith you’ll get PJ looking so great! It’s a very strong method. As you could see, I was brushing the hell out of her hair. And nothing came out!
@@disneybarbiegirl615 I've been neglecting my doll channel, I should probably see if developing a video of my reroot project will inspire me to get it done. 🤔
Truly a glow up. ✨️ Im restoring some 90s mermaid barbies and a little mermaid. It sure makes me feel old to see things from childhood I remember fresh, degrading with time and having chemical reactions. Makes me want to slather on my eye cream haha 😂
Great job! So proud of u as well!!! So I'm not gonna lie, I have watched ur restoration and such videos, but as of rn I haven't actually implemented any of ur techniques into my style, lol. Everything I know up until now regarding cleaning, restoration, repairs, and organization I have gotten from A Thousand Splendid Dolls! I was so wowed the other day to hear that u and Shelly are friends! That's so cool! Damn near everything I know regarding Barbie, has come from that gem of a human, and I'm so grateful for her. I absolutely adore her and her sister and really enjoy their content!! So, no offense to u at all, I'm very impressed with ur skills (in Napoleon Dynamite voice) and plan to definitely look more into ur videos like this. Thank u so much for sharing, though. I feel like I always learn something new from every one of ur videos. Ur a wealth of knowledge!! Have a great day!! ✌️💜✌️💜
Aww thank you for being here! YES! She and I have been friends since 2011, in our Flickr days.lol I’m sure she and I both would like to forget ourselves in that time. We are both doing so much better! And it’s amazing how well she and Colleen are doing. I’m so proud of them both, and love them both so much!
@disneybarbiegirl615 I'm glad to hear that, those 2 deserve all the blessings in the world. Speaking of Flickr, I actually refer to Shelly's Flickr on almost a daily basis to ID dolls. I love her up close pictures, and everything is so well organized that I can quickly navigate to where I need to go. She is definitely OCD in all the right, most beneficial ways for all of us, her fans/admirers, lol jk, but she has definitely been critical in my Barbie development and I've tried to let her know whenever I can 🙃🤓💞✌️💜
Oh she looks great! Do you have any re rooting videos? I have done it before but it seems my plugs come out easily. It looks like you get them done really fast, mine takes awhile. I also need to get the thatching thing down. You do such great work. She’s fabulous ❤
While I’m catching up on your videos I’m doing a reroot on one of those budget Barbies that has a unicorn headpiece, a detachable unicorn tail and funky clear boots and a short skirt. Molded on top und undies of course. I do a lot of reroots and donate them every year for a toy drive. I think some kid will really love this one. But her crappy hair had to go. 😂
While you're working on your Superstar Barbie, I'm sitting here detangling a Thrift Store Mari from Mermaid High I just had to rescue. I seriously do not understand how this doll's hair is worse than my original childhood Rock n' Curl Jem that I took a hairdryer to and fried some of the hair on, but she is.
Oh no!! I always find newer toys just have the roughest lives lol 😂 I find them at flea markets with twisted and knotted hair and I’m like, you’re in target right now just how lol 😂
You mentioned a lot of clothes from Barbie aren’t labeled in the seventies. How can you tell which clothes are real Barbie if they aren’t labeled. Was this only seventies that they didn’t label? I have found some that say Hong Kong. But I can’t tell if they’re real Barbie or not. Do you know of a good source to see fashions to identify them outside of the little books that came in the boxes with Barbie? I’ve used dollreference for earlier but they don’t go past 1972 I think it is. I’ve learned so much from you. I just started to collect this summer and I’m a Florida girl too. Thanks for the lessons!
I have a question about vintage saran hair 😅 i recently bought a twirly curls barbie second hand, but her hair is really sticky. Like, advanced sticky, even after washing. Is that something you've ever had to deal with? Honestly thinking about rerooting her, but it would be such a shame since her original hair is still pretty nice otherwise (really hoping this sin't something you haven't gone over in a video before :') )
❤❤❤i love it i dont have the original i have the repro by Bill greening and i love her something that i know at that time mattel have fabrics in Chile so theres more variants and also in 2008 mattel close a factory in México in that factory the my size barbie was produceded i know from some collector friend and from some friends that actually work sewing the hair to dolls with the old machines that mattel have in México as always hun i love your video i hope you get a super strong boyfriend and put it to help you with the strong legs he will have and i dont know i love the video and the brady brunch marcia 😂
So that's who encouraged kids to remove the rings and earrings! Well, thanks Judy. We'll spend our adult collector lives having to find rings, necklaces and earrings and wondering if we should really spend 40E for a set.
Hahahaha that’s so true. Also the superstar barbie deluxe fashions came with jewelry with matching stones. So that too encouraged you to remove them. I remember seeing an advertisement too that said “you can take off her jewelry to get ready for bed!” And I’m like oh my lol

@@disneybarbiegirl615 I've been neglecting my doll channel, I should probably see if developing a video of my reroot project will inspire me to get it done. 🤔
For rerooting, i use the loop knot method. No glue necessary
That’s another great way, and how I started doing them!
💚
Truly a glow up. ✨️
Im restoring some 90s mermaid barbies and a little mermaid.
It sure makes me feel old to see things from childhood I remember fresh, degrading with time and having chemical reactions.
Makes me want to slather on my eye cream haha 😂
Omg tell me about it. Our dolls are becoming vintage lol
I been here a little while
I'm so glad! 😌 I love restoring my dolls with you!:)
🧡
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
She's looking beautiful.
Q: where do you buy the hair?
Restoredoll.com or dollyhair.com
Yes I have!! There’s one in my restoration tutorials playlist:)
That is awesome! ☺️ I agree, those dolls with crap hair have to go
She’s stunning do her Knesset still bend
I got her for Christmas in 1977 I was 7
While you're working on your Superstar Barbie, I'm sitting here detangling a Thrift Store Mari from Mermaid High I just had to rescue.
❤❤❤❤❤
I’m hoping the repro of golden dreams christe is still happy 😢❤❤
Me too. I wish she came with the same gimmick as the og with quick curl hair
I have a Barbie from the late sixties that’s hair has been cut. Do you think you could fix it for me?
I have a question about vintage saran hair 😅 i recently bought a twirly curls barbie second hand, but her hair is really sticky. Like, advanced sticky, even after washing. Is that something you've ever had to deal with? Honestly thinking about rerooting her, but it would be such a shame since her original hair is still pretty nice otherwise (really hoping this sin't something you haven't gone over in a video before :') )
Do you do the knot method when it comes to rerooting?
No, this is the video where I go in depth

please show us your collection and would love to see african amerimerican barbie restoration
I want to reroot a superstar AA version doll with black Saran but I’m scarred 😂 I have t ever done it before
Ohhhh it will be fun!
That’s so cool you know people who worked there!! Hahah we don’t need boyfriends in this house. Unless they wanna pay some bills!!
@@disneybarbiegirl615 that is the purpose of the boyfriend pay bills or they have other purpose??
So that's who encouraged kids to remove the rings and earrings! Well, thanks Judy. We'll spend our adult collector lives having to find rings, necklaces and earrings and wondering if we should really spend 40E for a set.
Hahahaha that’s so true. Also the superstar barbie deluxe fashions came with jewelry with matching stones. So that too encouraged you to remove them. I remember seeing an advertisement too that said “you can take off her jewelry to get ready for bed!” And I’m like oh my lol
Okay so ik you said ur doing Barbies and I understand but could u do a Bratz?
I’m sure I could lmao 🤣
@@disneybarbiegirl615 lol the reason why I ask is because idk how to thatch a Bratz
@@jacknoffsinger6518 oh it’s literally the same way:) they should be even easier to do one as their heads are bigger

Should make hair thicker and longer and you need to use glue
No 💜
@@disneybarbiegirl615 yes I think make it better last longer can brush wash play with hair longer
@@davidvogel9974 I don’t think so necessarily:) wasn’t glued originally, and my og superstars have had their hair for over 40 years.
@@davidvogel9974 plus as you can see I’m brushing with a passion and it’s not coming out. It works for me. Glueing may work for you, and that’s great. I think we can agree to disagree. But my videos show my process and give a lot of people great results. However, if glueing is for you and meets your needs and requirements I think that’s great:) continue to do it with my blessing.
