cutting to commercial with 4 to go in stage 2 was crazy. they came back with 2 to go and we got to watch exactly 3 minutes of racing before they went to commercial as soon as the stage ended
Corey Lajoie's wallride and flip in the big one was definitely the biggest surprise this race, as another Cars moment is brought to life. I can't wait to see him talk about it on his podcast

I would've liked that storyline a bit better if they didn't completely ignore the finish crash. That was a bad wreck, cars turning over and everything, and all they showed was Reddick's car.
Brad literally said in the pre race, something to the line of needing luck, you can do everything perfectly with no mistakes, and still not win, his own words spoke very true today.
A real shame for Trackhouse. Chastain and Suarez we're cruising to a 7th and 8th finish. Once the wrecking started Chastain ALMOST thread the needle for a 4th place finish but ultimately both the 1 and the 99 got collected.
Yeah, Ross either got behind on the steering trying to save it or broke a toe link when he made contact with the car on the outside of him. He looked like he had it straightened out after that contact and then it just hooked hard right into the wall. Good race with a bad finish 2 weeks in a row. Nashville can't come soon enough!

All I heard this week on FOX & RUclips was, this is a must win for Ford. They sure didn't tell their drivers. Lap 114 - The 22 & 2, getting up to speed after pitting, pull up in front of the 17, 41 & 10 going full speed & try to block both lanes. Then on the last lap, the 34, 6 & 10 are leading the field - they block each other again & Reddick wins.
His win was actually a pure GENIUS move. He knew what was about to happen, backed off, got the run & won in perfect fashion. I’m not a Reddick fan by any means, but that wasn’t an accident, that was pure strategy that worked
As a McDowell fan it was painful to watch. He kept getting too far ahead. Could have told you that'd happen with 20 to go. What sucks is he had a chance if he hadn't thrown that second block. I don't think he would have beat Brad but it would have been close.
Yeah total brick. Ford needed to win and McDowell threw the worst block in recent memory. I get it’s for the checkers flag but he needs to be less impulsive.
I think taking away the cautions with the stages would fix a lot of this, because they know how much they can save to make it a quick stop knowing they don't need to fill up all the way because of knowing when the caution will come out
As someone who was at the race in person, it was really cool to be at. The fuel mileage racing didn’t seem to affect my view of it besides the fact that they looked slower and sounded like a lower RPM. I was rooting for McDowell after I got a picture with him this morning but happy for Reddick and MJ. My first visit to Dega was awesome!
Even the commercials during Xfinity were crazy. Once I saw a Side-by-side-by-side making the race view so small it was like watching it on my phone so they could play two commercials at once. Absolutely unacceptable.
Michael McDowell has to be the worst team driver for Ford. Three Fords in the lead coming to the checkered and he blew it for all of them by throwing some of the worst blocks imaginable. What a joke. Absolutely pathetic
Watching Gibbs totally ruin the outside line hurt, especially with the massive pileup that took most (if not all) of those cars. Busch ran in the top ten almost all day and wound up with a 27th. Lots of tough breaks for good running cars today
I am at a loss for how NASCAR managed to screw up the three things they were good at with the Next-Gen. Used to we could always count on Short Tracks, Road Courses, and Superspeedways as being great races, but now those races are super hit or miss.
I was at the race today. The way everyone was going 2 and 3 wide all race had my nerves on ice. It was amazing. Super happy for Reddick's win, and I hope Erik is okay after his crash.
This was a great race at Talladega. Had almost everything you'd like in a superspeedway race! And 143 lead changes in the last two Talladega races!?! Wow! This is superspeedway Racing at its finest at this point!
Lead Changes and green flag passes aren’t the best metric to determine good races from bad ones. I’m pretty sure a “Lead Change” or “Green Flag Pass” can count as a car getting 1 inch ahead of another and the positions change, and considering that the Gen 7’s biggest super-speedway flaw is the grid locking and it being so hard to move out of line, or form a third lane, those positions will swap constantly when they are so locked together, that may look good for metrics, but bad to the naked eye. This is just my opinion, but no this is NOT super-speedway racing at it’s finest, I mean the most recent Atlanta race had 25 less lead changes and I think only 1/3 of the avg. green flag passes per lap, but everyone agrees that race beats any talladega race with the gen 7 TENFOLD.
Idk if its me but i really do think reddick is a serious championship threat we saw how good he is at 1.5 mile tracks good road course racer he obviously proved today he can win on a plate tracks i mean he done it 2x year in the 2nd duel at Daytona and today
Check your audio settings on your TV Eric, if you have compression enabled it will equalize the volume of all the audio. This makes Mike Joys breathing the same volume as everything else.
Give me 1990s style restrictor plate racing. It was the best of both worlds. You could team up and make runs, but it also wasn't so bunched up that a wiggle can cause a multi-car wreck.
Exactly bc the exact same move that Dale Earnhardt tried on Mark Martin at the 1997 Winston 500 on the last lap no bumpers touched and no wrecks and Mark Martin did all kinds of blocking. Today McDowell did the blocking and got in a big wreck . Make the aero so these cars can get separated easier into smaller packs.
You nailed it! Superspeedway racing was much better when two or three cars could team up, pull out, and run up to the front. This two by two by two crap is boring!!!!
Soooooo happy to be on an international feed (watching from Norway). While you are all watching commercials I'm watching the entire race without interruptions, the only difference is not having commentators for a few minutes...😁
I watched from Germany so I couldn’t get the Fox Stream. I pulled up NASCAR Race Center with 4x in-car feeds and the MRN broadcast. Best viewing experience ever. I think I’ll watch every race with the Race Center from now on. I had Brad’s feed pulled up for the last 30 laps, truly amazing watching McDowell block.
Fuel Mileage depends on the person because even the Daytona 500 Denny Hamlin said he didn't like the fuel mileage racing and just wanted to go out there and race. So I can't imagine he was thrilled with it today either.
The reason Ty Gibbs destroyed the third lane was most likely because he braked and intentionally slowed them down. Smart move honestly, that eliminated the competition for Toyota. The Next Gen seems fine at superspeedways, it can do three wide. I just think drivers have become much more cautious and passive about going three wide in the Next Gen era.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and Anthony Alfredo out of nowhere in lesser competitive equipment, got Top 10's! Also the run B.J. McLeod had before the car ran out of fuel was amazing. He led like 3 laps I believe and was super competitive, where both a Rick Ware and LiveFast car led a lap in today's race. That LaJoie crash also scared me too, and prayers for Erik Jones. I also hate it for Michael McDowell as well.
Blocking in the tri oval should be a drive thru penalty when causing a wreck. If it's the last lap. Last position on the lead lap. This would stop the whole 20 car wrecks at superspeed ways
It was ridiculous. Then commercial after commercial with no side by side. Commercial, couple of laps, commercial. Then those cringe Wendy sponsor spotlights. They’ve gone too far. No other sports broadcast does this. Watch NBA games or F1 or whatever they don’t do this stuff.
I know the 2 audiences don’t usually mix, but the fuel saving racing reminds me of the peloton in Tour de France. You constantly have people moving to the front and cycling backwards, and when it’s close enough that there’s enough gas to get to the finish the race is on. I think it’s cool to watch and agree that it adds to the plate tracks, not detracts.
I do wish we got that extra post race coverage, especially in victory lane every week like we did today. Probably the only bright spot FOX had today. Besides that they were brutal all weekend
The "Fuel mileage" racing was exciting. Fox's camera angles are super annoying. At one point, they zoomed way out on the blimp cam, and I couldn't see the three wide action.
Don't mind the fuel saving during the stages. What I do mind, same as you, is that you can't generate a runs/a line at all. A third plus line just isn't manageable, and it make the two wide racing feel illegitimate or cheap. They are just running side by side and not really changing positions or anything.
Bro I have no idea why so many people were complaining about the "speed." Like maybe I'm not as fanatic about the sport as others but I didn't notice the change in speed visually at all; what I did notice was that it wasn't a boring-ass train for three hours. Like... c'mon... how is that NOT OBVIOUSLY better?
It's the fact that fuel mileage racing is supposed to happen naturally, this is Nascar once again purposely creating a fuel mileage race. It doesn't happen naturally. Just like the elimination and reset rounds in the playoffs, Nascar is trying to create drama UNNATURALLY!! Playoffs should be the same 10 races(maybe different tracks here and there) and no elimination rounds or resets! Just 10 races and whatever driver collects the most points wins the championship!
A little suggestion for your post race videos After you show us the finishing results of the race, please show us the playoff standings in addition to the race finishes
Once those Toyotas started to fishtail while they were hooked up, it was like pushing a chain. Eric, THANK YOU for pointing out that superspeedways have ALWAYS been mostly a matter of driving around in circles until Go Time. Clear back when the Bodines were beating each other up on the track and arguing off track I was complaining that plate racing was most of an afternoon of sheer boredom followed by 30 laps of sheer terror. I'm just thankful we no longer spend 10 minutes holding our breath to see if everyone lived like we did in the old days. How's that for perspective?
Hey Erik I think one thing that is missing from the TV Broadcast is the excitement in the commentary. Listened to MRN replay of the final call for the win. You can feel their excitement.
I wonder if McDowell doesn't block the 2nd move Brad made and stays to outside with Brad, uses the side draft I think Michael gets the win ( or Brad) but happy for Reddick.
I was surprised that they were not taking tires. They could have run it on one set. But it wasn’t a big thing unless they spun out or slide in the pit stops strategy was huge and I loved that part big brain and not just big speed to get the win it was very entertaining I wish they didn’t have so many commercials but what can they do about that unless they treat it like a Super Bowl and charge higher prices for a commercial but for a every week they would not be able to charge that much but it might be time to offer a pay for a commercial free viewing for the fans in a online
As far as the racing goes at superspeedways, I recall Denny saying on his podcast that the Gen-7 car is just too draggy to form a third line and keep it there at full speed. If I had to guess, the windshield duct and the slots in the rear glass probably hinder the car's aero efficiency significantly. Patching those holes back up would probably help the car travel in the wind better, but the main reason those holes were even made in the windows to begin with was to dissipate heat from the cockpit. Idk if NASCAR can come up with something else to fix both issues, but maybe a small power bump to 550 would also help. With the news of Jones tho, obviously I hope he'll be alright. But I have a feeling that Corey Heim (or maybe Almirola?) is gonna be in the #43 Toyota next week. That LMC team meeting is gonna be interesting....
I’ve never been so bored and frustrated with a race in my life between the fuel saving, the god awful fox broadcast and production, and the last 30 laps of a 2x2 can’t go anywhere train
I hope you video do this week will be about the xfinty race on Saturday and how hailee Deegan came so Close to her first top 5 maybe even win if Herbst didn't go high and left her out to dry seriously, her strategy worked, she was last yes, but was 4th on the final restart, but if Herbst had just pushed her, she would've probably had a top 5 in the xfinty series and maybe just maybe a win
Yeah it was a good strategy call, unfortunately she was just too slow to get help at the end. If Herbst pushes her, he’s going to be slower. It’s better for him to go around and draft off someone else. But she was close.
I hope eidolon jones is ok. Congratulations on being on with Kenny Wallace. I was happy with the race I don’t mind if there is one overtime but not multiple overtime. I love when fuel mileage comes to play the risks of running out. Great job ass always
I felt today was kinda old school. I think they should bring a tire component to the speedways... not obviously blow outs but a fall off that forces a stradgy but also gives the race more dynamics.... not a Bristol tire but you know
I liked how strategies almost played a role today and independent teams were doing their best to be relevant in this race and Noah Gragson almost pulling out a win for SHR if not for Tyler Reddick sneaking one by on Brad Keslowski to get a win I thought for sure the #6 crew were getting a “W” today coming from a Hendrick Kyle Larson fan 🤘🏻I loved the racing today and agree on the groovey gauge!
I remember when nascar put a fin across the roof to help the racing. Also, I remember them reducing the fuel tank for the superspeedways only. Maybe thar would help the racing. Of course if you take away fuel mileage, you won't get very good pack racing, that's where the fin or something with the same effect can come into play
Shame on Fox for not following up on Jones. I was asking for a long time after the wreck if he was okay. Found out on Twitter within minutes about his back, the broadcast said nothing. I get not speculating, but when you have the car audio, they can at least say something. They cut away from the shot of the crew bringing out the medical cloth and said nothing else except that it took them extra time to get him out of the car. The angle of that wreck made me extremely worried.
The commercial with 5 to go at the end of stage 2… Eric pulled it from my brain the moment he mentioned Fox. I knew he would say something about that specific one. That was so horrible
We all know what the DBC crew will say. JHN wrecks the field again Don’t think the McDowell move was late, but he was loose and lost it. Would have been interesting if he had picked a bump from Reddick if he could have come back at Brad at the line.
I would add that McDowell's last block likely would have worked had Brad not gotten that push from Noah. With things moving so quickly, Noah's bump might have come after McDowell's spotter told him to block low. So I agree it wasn't late as far as when he made the decision. Brad just picked up that surge of momentum. The way they touched, the 34 was very nearly there.
Honestly the past two Talladega races now have been relatively clean. Only one Big One in both last year's fall race and today. I think this race was the perfect balance between clean aggressive racing with a bit of carnage at the end.
cause they 1/2 assed did it right, and let them get back to finish line before doing so... but didn't let everyone get across the line.. a good attempt but they still f'd it up...
I remember once seeing the Ol' #7, or was that 07, back when their sponsor was Jack Daniels, finish on his roof.🥺 As long as you finish I guess it doesn't matter how.😬 Carl Edwards ran across the finish line but I guess it didn't count. There's something about crossing with your car in the rules 🤔
Say what you will about the Toyota strategy fail or the flip at the finish, the best part of the race was seeing the American hero Bj McLeod run up and take the lead legitimately in the first stage!
We need to give Fox credit when they make a good change. Both the cup and xfinity race had much better camera angles then they normally do and they weren’t just zoomed in on the leader all the time. Plus I didn’t see a single shot of any kids in the crowd. That’s improvement. It should be applauded. It seems like they got a new director or something
You can always count on John Hunter Nemechek causing disaster he really blew that one and I was a little confused I thought this race was sponsored by Geico but then I thought maybe it was sponsored by Wendy's I saw more dominant Wendy's commercials than I did Geico maybe if they brought the caveman back they'd be interesting anyway nice race Tyler I didn't know they had Mercedes in NASCAR I guess that's why you won it was cool anyway😊
Now Chase Elliott is back on the countdown he's One race without a win I didn't see where Kyle Larson finished and I didn't hear you mention that HMS boys really without the wreck they probably would have finished a lot farther back they really were a non-factor I think at one point I saw Larson spinning sideways in a melee at the end of the race good for him😂
NASCAR needs to clamp down on the second block. The first block up the track was fine, the second block down the track ended the way it was always going to end. One other thing I didn't really like, I tuned in for a race, not to watch everyone riding around saving gas from the drop of the green flag. I get strategy, it's not really strategy when everyone is doing it. At least it got to a point where several teams decided to speed up and force everyone else to keep up.
UPDATE: Erik Jones has been transported to a local hospital after his crash at Talladega. He was initially checked at and released from the infield care center.
Seems like NASCAR has some work to do next off-season or hopefully the Olympic break.
bad look for nascar for clearing him
I really hope he’s ok
I hope that he is doing OK after that crash
Hope he’s able to race next week at Dover
bro my FOX tv watching experience was ruined today… all this nascar racing stuff kept interfering with my commercials smh…
It really did feel like that
There was like 8 commercial breaks in stage 1 alone
Fr. So many commercials
I turned the race off, after the first fuel run.I lost track of the commercials,5-6 commercial breaks in the first 48 laps or so…
cutting to commercial with 4 to go in stage 2 was crazy. they came back with 2 to go and we got to watch exactly 3 minutes of racing before they went to commercial as soon as the stage ended
Somebody sponsor the #78 before Eric has to do it again himself!
That last lap crash was a certified NR2003 crash if I’ve ever seen one
About to say the same exact thing 😂
How many times has Assholoski wrecked the leader on the last lap???????

I kept seeing the Mercedes logo on his suit when I was barely focused on the TV, a little misleading but good to get the audiences attention

Boogity! Boogity! Boogity!
It’d also be a cool version if it said “Jaws”
This two by two by two crap is boring!!!!
im pretty sure it was clint bowyer that said years back. "you get one block. you dont get two"
Soooooo happy to be on an international feed (watching from Norway). While you are all watching commercials I'm watching the entire race without interruptions, the only difference is not having commentators for a few minutes...😁
Ngl but that last lap flip was extremely unexpected by everyone
I watched from Germany so I couldn’t get the Fox Stream. I pulled up NASCAR Race Center with 4x in-car feeds and the MRN broadcast. Best viewing experience ever. I think I’ll watch every race with the Race Center from now on. I had Brad’s feed pulled up for the last 30 laps, truly amazing watching McDowell block.
Really wished Michael McDowell or Brad Keselowski would've had won
Same here, bro, same here
Only if McDowell didn't take an example from Newman's Daytona 2020 screw up...😂😂
I was rooting for BJ so hard, learned years ago he is from my hometown so I always think it’s cool seeing my hometown up on a Nascar race
Fuel Mileage depends on the person because even the Daytona 500 Denny Hamlin said he didn't like the fuel mileage racing and just wanted to go out there and race. So I can't imagine he was thrilled with it today either.
Fuel mileage racing SUCKS on superspeedways, fuel mileage racing is only fun when it created an unexpected winner.
@@PaperBanjo64I mean strategy is always fun this from the fans who complain about the lack of unpredictable strategy now you don't like it... typical
FOX's camera crew needs an overhaul!!!!
It's the director. He sucks.
FOX chose to go full screen commercial with 7 to go in stage 2! Race recap with 11 to go!?!? C'mon FOX!
That’s strange
That last block by McDowell was nothing short of pure kamikaze. I mean he literally turned left at nearly two hundred miles per hour!
A little suggestion for your post race videos
After you show us the finishing results of the race, please show us the playoff standings in addition to the race finishes
I'll definitely start adding those as we get closer to playoffs.
How's that for perspective?
what position did McDowell deserve? He made his bed, now he lays in it.. 31st for that block is 100% where he deserved.
It was tremendous race at Talladega. We’ve saw 2 to 3 wide stretch, the big one wrecked happens, and I’ll give 91.9% ratings
COMMERCIAL 500!!!!
Very well said. I don't think saving fuel is a bad deal. Keeps the pack close with lots of lead changes and strategy
I want tandem racing back.
The only thing that is going to make Nascar interesting again is cars that can do 200 mph.
I also found it boring 😴
Ya the race kinda sucked. Nobody even gave it a shot to make it 3 wide at the end
Would you rather have a single file train where there just " logging" laps?
@@ryanpaulding1178They were logging laps for the most part. I thought the 500 and last fall’s race were better and so was 2022.
@ryanpaulding1178 they couldn't even get single file.
All my friends never thought they would see my team get a win, now I can tell them they have! Wonderful race and I got to watch it with my family.
The Toyota incident reminded me of the 2017 Daytona 500...
I felt today was kinda old school. I think they should bring a tire component to the speedways... not obviously blow outs but a fall off that forces a stradgy but also gives the race more dynamics.... not a Bristol tire but you know
I'm a Reddick fan and I broke up with my girl during the race. Him winning healed quite a bit of the pain fs.
She doesn't like Reddick?
She just wasn’t the one keep going u got this 🙏
@@thomaspodlesny239 Oh yea I’m fine. She didn’t put in a lot effort anyway and I was done
@@GrandpaShark She didn’t care
I liked how strategies almost played a role today and independent teams were doing their best to be relevant in this race and Noah Gragson almost pulling out a win for SHR if not for Tyler Reddick sneaking one by on Brad Keslowski to get a win I thought for sure the #6 crew were getting a “W” today coming from a Hendrick Kyle Larson fan 🤘🏻I loved the racing today and agree on the groovey gauge!
Man I wanted brad to win it
Same
I hear ya.
They spent half the race talking about Wendy's.
Wendy’s got a few extra mentions in the Australian V8 Supercars this weekend too just from sponsoring a car way down in the field. It was noticeable.
Boo Wendy - Eric Cartman
I agree with the fuel saving adding extra strategy and mixing up the field throughout the races, they’ve been very entertaining
Fox screwed the pooch big time
To the outside, WOAHHH!
To the Inside! WOW!!!!
CRASH into the wall goes McDowell and the field piles in
Back before your time. The actually raced all race. 3 and 4 wide at Talladega and Daytona. That was fun to watch.
They interviewed him coming out of the care center. He said he was sore but ok.
The commercial with 5 to go at the end of stage 2… Eric pulled it from my brain the moment he mentioned Fox. I knew he would say something about that specific one. That was so horrible
We all know what the DBC crew will say. JHN wrecks the field again
Don’t think the McDowell move was late, but he was loose and lost it.
What I do not understand is why it took Nascar so long to get the caution out? Giving Reddick enough time to get ahead and take the lead.
You wanted them to throw the yellow flag with the cars 100 yards from the finish line!?
@@extragoogleaccount6061 I want NASCAR to be consistent.
cause they 1/2 assed did it right, and let them get back to finish line before doing so... but didn't let everyone get across the line.. a good attempt but they still f'd it up...
I remember once seeing the Ol' #7, or was that 07, back when their sponsor was Jack Daniels, finish on his roof.🥺
As long as you finish I guess it doesn't matter how.😬
Carl Edwards ran across the finish line but I guess it didn't count.
Now Chase Elliott is back on the countdown he's One race without a win I didn't see where Kyle Larson finished and I didn't hear you mention that HMS boys really without the wreck they probably would have finished a lot farther back they really were a non-factor I think at one point I saw Larson spinning sideways in a melee at the end of the race good for him😂
The commercials suck but I’ve learned we to listen to MRN/PRN on commercials.
We do too!
Fox is getting stupid now, last few years have been tough
NASCAR needs to clamp down on the second block. The first block up the track was fine, the second block down the track ended the way it was always going to end.
One other thing I didn't really like, I tuned in for a race, not to watch everyone riding around saving gas from the drop of the green flag. I get strategy, it's not really strategy when everyone is doing it. At least it got to a point where several teams decided to speed up and force everyone else to keep up.
