I was in a RUSH tribute band in college. We didn't play that trippy space sound at the first part of 2112, just the first two notes and our audience just absolutely lost it. The audience would sing "And the meek shall inherit the Earth" and we would just go into our zone, so into playing the music that we were unaware of anything but the music. We didn't start out as a tribute band. We played an unrehearsed Spirit of Radio on our second gig and our audience just went crazy, whereas before it kind of a muted "yay". That 'yay" turned into "AWESOME YEAH!!". Best years of my life.

I enjoy watching people(especially young people) fall in love with music I love. Thank you! Neil Peart was the GOAT (RIP) GOD has him now Neil wrote all the lyrics for the band.. "Listen to my music. Hear what it can do There's something as strong as life I know it will reach you" They were at war with their production people. This is giving them the middle finger. Get in to the story. It's worth it. That was side 1. Side 2 has other very good songs too. There's videos on RUclips with a serious cool video to go with the song. Enjoy! Three weeks later I want to fill you in on what this song is all about. Please acknowledge if you get it. The band was at war with their record company/publishers because they wanted shorter more radio friendly music. So the band pretty much gave them the finger and said, "We're doing this for us not you." They didn't need to include their fans because they knew we were already onboard. Thus the20+ minute song. The entire side of 2112. The song is about that war between what THEY want and what WE(collectively) want. Tell me that wasn't a great ride. I dare you. 🎸😎👌

2112 was my first Rush album. I bought it at a garage sale on a whim and because I liked the cassette cover. Completely blew me away. That was in 1990.

What gives this musical piece by Rush its psychological value is the fact that it is basically a classic Greek tragedy. Our hero with no name is presented as a Cassandra figure, who knows that the only reasonable action is surrender but no one will make that reasonable act.

This album was their response to their record company giving them an ultimatum to do something mass appeal and ditch the artsy concept albums, or they'd likely be dropped. They doubled down and decided to go out on their terms, if it was their last hurrah. And they made arguably the greatest concept rock album of all time.
@@richarddoyle3420 Its more of Ray Daniels lied for them. It was him that told the label they would go back to the 1st album type sound and not get prog cute again. Ray has the distinction of never being involved in their making and recording of an album but just handled the bands management. So he had no idea what the band was going to even do. Thats what makes his fib even better
@@richarddoyle3420 Im not familar with Terry's take on it. But that doesnt mean he didnt have a role in it (just Im not familar with it). But I do know Ray did lobby to have Mercury not simply drop them and gave a bunch of fib assurances along the way. And the rest is history. Have a good one!

You are on a fantastic journey into the wonderful world of progressive rock, I saw your Triumph video and see that you also reacted to Yes’ Close to the Edge (my next video). Doubtlessly your mind will be naturally expanded by this mature and serious walk into the world of fine musicians and progressive rock. You display a courage and time beyond your years. I have listened to progressive rock for the last 55 years (I am 70 now) and I have was forever changed for the better and you will see yourself in the years to come.

Please people, if you really want to honor the band and the members, Neil's last name is pronounced like the thing you listen to their music with. It's 'ear', with a 'p' and a 't' at the ends. It's not pronounced 'pert'.

While I understand why she mispronounced his last name, I, too, correct reactors who mispronounce Mr. Peart's last name (out of an abundance of respect for all he accomplished), regardless of who may have mispronounced it: past, present or future. It was a thorn in his side. I listened to a radio show back in the 80s that featured commentary and interviews with the band members of Rush. Neil was 99% MIA, with the exception of one sentence, which was this - "It's not Pert, it's not Peart (pronounced like the fruit), it's Peart (pronounced like the human 'ear')". He did not sound happy.

If you like smooth instrumental guitar, then have a look at one of the top ten guitarists of all time, the king of the instrumental STEVE VAI, Steve vai doesn't need words, he tells the story with his facial expressions, have a look at Steve vai TENDER SURRENDER (SteveVaiHimself), Steve also plays with two violinists, one of them is the world class Chinese American girl Ann Marie Calhoun , have a look at NOW WE RUN (SteveVaiHimself), also keep an eye on the drummer's great performance in now we run ,Jeremy Colson, it's not a Neil peart from rush size drum kit but he can certainly play it, A beautiful tune from a show I saw many years ago WHISPERING A PRAYER, STEVE VAI LIVE AT THE ASTORIA LONDON, (SteveVaiHimself) the camera work at this show was pretty poor, but watch Steve's facial expressions telling the story. Another great performance,and another great show I'M THE HELL OUTTA HERE-- CROSSROADS GUITAR FESTIVAL with some interesting guitar playing in the middle of the tune. Steve vai also acted in a movie from 1986 CROSSROADS , in the EPIC GUITAR BATTLE SCENE. between Steve vai and RALPH MACCHIO, older people will remember RALPH MACCHIO in THE KARATE KID MOVIES. good verses evil, who will win RALPH or STEVE. I listen to stuff my daughter listens to and I really don't understand what has happened to music nowadays it's all so fake you don't hear the real voices and you don't even have to play and instrument good because they auto tune or sing through mics that always keeps them in the right key you just have to look the part. Thats why music like this will never die and music ,not all but the majority of what I hear nowdays wil be forgotten. We need a younger generation to bring it back to strive to be as good or better than groups like Rush Floyd, Zeppelin ,yes masters of their instruments and always pushing for better and more difficult and challenging arrangements. I cut my teeth learning to play guitar in this album. Picture a 14 year old kid in 1978 jumping up and down on his bed playing 2112. 😂
