It is in the description but I should have put this here in a pinned comment. This is a link to the original video:

The creator has commented below and linked to this video as a "Counterpoint" offering. I consider this a classy response and I ask if anyone only watched my video they should check out the original video and if you are into RPG content then you should have a look around at their other videos. I would like to thank him for watching, linking back, and overall taking a high road to his response.
Can you do a video with your actually complaints about gencon. For example event tickets explotation, the bus system, overpriced for the dungeon event. People enforcing the will call line better.
@@lkoz9079 Yeah we could definitely do a video like that
We went for Covid in 2022 and there were 6 of us. We played as a group in multiple games all 4 days (and got hotels in the block). This year there are 4 of us and we are playing in 2-3 games everyday, but with a lot more free time on Saturday. But we also don't play what we have always played at home such as WotC and Paizo. We go to play new things and all but one was great (shout out to Divination RPG and Polyhedral Knights for the most fun). And we got a hotel that was 6 miles away this time. And there were airport hotels all the way up to the closing of the portal.
Nice video! I'm going to put a link back in my video description as a "Counterpoint" offering
We appreciate you watching the video and reposting it. This is a welcome, classy response. If you do end up attending GenCon and we end up setting up a get together, you are more than welcome to join us.
For those who didn't catch the name in the video, this is the gentleman who posted the original video. This type of response should be applauded and I can only hope that we would react this way should we ever experience a rebuttal video.
The whole time watching his video, i was like... I'm from Bloomington and driving up every day... you can't tell me hotels are $1,000 here that weekend. Just checked $86-172 dollars per night for most places.
Oh I have to leave another comment. Man your wood walls brings back some awesome memories!
Crowne Plaza. The hotel with the train cars is the Crowne Plaza.
I took the bus last year
I think I forgot to mention the bus. One more way to get downtown.
As an aside, how did that work out for you?
@geekcabal2599 actually worked out fine only about 35 minutes from about 8-9 miles out from the con and the bus driver let me on for free with my cosplay on lol
Plainfield is absolutely not a 15 minutes drive from downtown Indy. Especially over GenCon weekend.
right now (04/03/2024 @ 8:30 AM) with normal traffic it is 24 minutes (according to Google Maps), that would be double with GenCon traffic and parking issues
Hey good argument from my memory the I have talk to one of the main planners of gencon and they have increased the cap for this 80k-90k. Old cap was 70k-75k. My biggest complaint would be that people exploit the event ticket system and overbuy and then do not attend it. GENCON needs to address this.
Sounds like the individual is just unhappy in general, not just with GenCon, and looking for reasons to complain. Indy has spent tens of millions of dollars to make it a go to convention city, and it shows. As an aside, if the Oregon Trail card game is the one I have played, it is one of the worst games I have ever played. Thanks for sharing. I love all of Geek Cabal's content.
Yeah, Indy is definitely trying to position itself as the major convention destination.
I'll see if Jim has a copy of the Oregon Trail card game and if so we can do a video about it.
I commented basically what you said on his post before I saw your video. However to be fair I don't think staying in Bloomington is a viable option for a hotel. That is around an hour travel each way. However, Lebanon, Zionsville, Brownsburg would be a viable option. Also Plainfield really isn't a 15 min drive. I agree with what you say in general though. You can stay a place 30-40 min away for sure.
I only mentioned Bloomington because it is possible. I would consider it an absolute last resort.
You're the second person to comment on the time from Plainfield so maybe I am mistaken. It always felt like a pretty short trip the times I have driven that route.
Appreciate the comment.
@@geekcabal2599 Yeah I have lived in or around Indy my entire life. Pushing 60 now so it has been a while. There was a time when you could easily make that trip, but the traffic has increase like crazy lately. Having said all that I agree with 99% of what you said. I am also sad that Chick-Fil-A moved out of the mall, so going and getting a decent chicken sandwich takes a bit longer now.
@@SteveMichael I live about 90 miles south of Indy and know a few people there so I have made the trip myself, but it has been a few years since I had to make it during the day (into downtown from Plainfield) in traffic and not leaving downtown at night in light traffic.
I have not been to its new location but I thought Chick-Fil-A moved to a different location downtown.
I live outside Bloomington and will be driving each way every day. It's not a "great" option but you can still spend 10 hours a day gaming and taking things in and have plenty of time there to drive, park, and eat.
Are you allowed to use your luggage on wheels to put games in or is that weird?
Do you mean at the convention? If so, people do bring carts on wheels and I have seen what it is presumably luggage on wheels in the Dealer Hall so I believe you can.
@@geekcabal2599 where ever it is that publishers sell games. thank you!
