RPG Campaign Inspiration: The Good The Bad And The Ugly
Once upon a time, this would be difficult to determine. But with today's computers and tracking, I am sure streaming services can track everything. So, Jeff subscribes to Disney + the day Andor comes out. He watches all of the episodes, but nothing else. I am sure they can track this. It is my understanding that RUclips gives you a ton of metrics on your viewership. I would assume streaming services have more information about their viewers and what they watch, when they watch. So, I am sure they can track the impact of a show. However, we are making the assumption that the only reason to make a show is for profit. Maybe that was the case in previous times, but now, I am sure shows get made due to social pressure, and pressure from investors to support "The Message".
This is still the scariest movie I have ever watched. It is timeless as well which only builds on the horror honestly. Watching it the second time makes it more creepy, just in a different way.
Another movie I have seen but don't remember much about. And I keep getting this movie mixed up with Species. Thanks for sharing.
I'll be getting to Species at some point. Not sure if I'll go into the sequels.
Yeah, this one is definitely not for kids. Weird movie.
@BigLegoFan82997 With The prolific nudity and some of the violence, I agree this one isn't for kids
Mac wants the flamethrower!
One of the best
@@jocoloco1320 Definitely. I think Halloween is probably my favorite Carpenter movie, but this is a very close second. Almost to the point of being a toss you between them.
Just in case part of my point is taken wrong from the video, I am not saying storytelling in general can't have moral complexity. It is one element of storytelling and like any element it has its place. With Star Wars, I believe that place is not with the Jedi and Sith. They can be put in morally complex situations, but they themselves are fairly black and white. The drama comes from them trying to stick to that in the face of complex situations.
Damn crazy Swedes!😂
If you've not watched it, check out the prequel to see their story.
Here's a post on Twitter where we show where the inspiration for the poster came from. x.com/realgeekcabal/status/1845242512602169794
Outstanding movie, very creepy, music supports the creep, script keeps you wondering, excellent actors, and Kurt Russell, 10/10. The prequel I liked also, 8/10. I have seen the original several times, a product of its time special effects wise, early 50's, still creepy, decent acting and again, the script supports the creep. And Jim Arness, Marshall Dillon of Gunsmoke fame, play's the creature at the very end of the movie. 6/10 by today's standards, 9/10 for the 50's.
@@charbroilbeefcake6095 I need to check out the original some time.
I don't think buying things at retail to resell could ever be considered scalping.
I would like to see castle type expansion sets, with wall pieces with printed window or brick with vines scenes. Also the tower type pieces and some assorted bricks in multiple sizes (1x2x3,4,6,8…..16) so you can expand as you desire. Have all of these in light grey, dark grey and black for different factions.
@@MrPolleyr Do you mean sets of Caatke type parts? They used to sell something like that in the 90s. It was mainly arches in gray.
I agree with traviswillis5515, Star Wars is a movie universe created to represent good vs evil. The Jedi vs the Sith. The Empire vs the Rebellion. Government rights vs personal freedom. The original trilogy is also about redemption. I wish Star Wars as a whole had stayed with those concepts. There is plenty of entertainment out there about gangs, hoods, drug dealers, good people falling, and the like. One of the biggest reasons Star Wars worked, in my opinion, was the good guy vs the bad guy. The good guy is outclassed in most areas, yet he manages to succeed with the odds stacked against him. How I wish the Star Wars universe had stuck with those themes instead of taking the route they have chosen. And I agree with you Bob, in order to create Star Wars for "Modern Audiences" they had to turn the Jedi into self-centered fools. Part of being an adult is putting on your big boy pants and admitting when you made a mistake. Lost on the Modern Audience.
@charbroilbeefcake6095 I've seen a few interviews with George Lucas where he talks about part of his motivation. He mentions Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey but also religion. He mentioned he was a religious person and he wanted to make something that had religious like qualities (but not wanting to replace religion). So that's paet of why it is black and white morality.
Great discussion Bobby. I know the recent Disney Star Wars have muddied the waters on morality in this Universe, and it sucks in my opinion. I believe this is a universe that benefits from clear heroes and clear villains (unlike some other universes who benefit from more complexity like Dune and BattleTech).i can only think of one instance in Star Wars where Moral Complexity actually worked, and that was the Republic Commando book series. I think there needs to be a clear good and evil, and then you can have a couple branches coming from there that get more depth to what good and evil is in the Star Wars Universe
@traviswillis5515 I agree. Hopefully I didn't imply that moral complexity has no place in fiction. Your two examples, Battletech and Dune, are great examples of where it works perfectly.
I'd really love to see more themes back to life especially if it could happen during the fall season
@@sky0kast0 Any theme in particular you would like to see brought back?
I know I have seen it, but I remember almost nothing about it. I will have to give it a shot. Thanks for sharing.
I believe it is more memorable for various lines from Chop Top and some over the top moments than the movie as a whole.
Great movie. I loved it. Bought it on DVD, lol.
Sure, it could work, its LEGO. Interesting topic, thanks for sharing.
Holy unnecessarily lengthy title Batman! Seriously though, it would be interesting to see how they would go about using that template to bring back other themes.
I thought this movie was awesome. I am a huge fan of horror, sci-fi, b-movies of the 80s and 90s… and although I felt like I had seen some scenes from it when I was younger, I didn’t remember it. Just watched it on Tubi. One of my all-time favorite movies lol. Not award-winning by any means, but just straight fun. The plot regarding Cody being the leader of the gang and going to jail, and then getting out dealing with his younger brother that is now wanting to join the gang… reminds me a lot of American History X.
@NoEscape459 I didn't remember a lot from it from when I watched it in the 90s. Mainly that the teachers were killer robots and Stacy Keach played an albino. Rewatching it is felt it was entertaining. Glad you enjoyed it.
What unit is jumping out of the Leopard?
I'm not sure to be honest.
i do not wish to bother you but you asked for feedback you should look at backrooms and the SCP Foundation weird shit
It's no bother at all. We always appreciate feedback and suggestions. I will check those out.
Maybe the cost of the Acolyte was in salaries. The main character had to play two roles, so double her salary. There were probably 100 producers, and everyone had to make the same amount of money, otherwise it would not reach the desired level of equity. Thanks for sharing gents.
The bad part is that since we recorded this it has come out that they spent even more money than originally thought. It's apparently somewhere between $230 million and $300 million.
Please ignore the parts talking about what we have upcoming and the specific days mentioned. This was recorded 2 weeks ago. We had some issues moving the files and then in the editor causing it to take this long to get it uploaded here to RUclips.
I’m sure they’ll be able to scrape together the $400million necessary to make one season of that overpriced slop.
a dollar or 2 you sir are a savage god bless you
It's only $300 or so short of their goal right now. I honestly want to see what happens if they hit their goal.
"A Fool and his/her/it's money are soon parted."
It's close to hitting the goal right now. Part of me is surprised, part of me admires the dedication, and part of me thinks it's going to turn out to be a scam.
I must say, Chad's perspective on Skynet trying to make small adjustments to force humans to do what needs to be accomplished to further their agenda is an interesting theory. And can certainly be used in an RPG campaign as a plot driver. Or is already being used in a current RPG campaign Chad is involved in. Maybe. Thanks for sharing.
Dreams
Definitely. Maybe parts of them will come true at some point.
More castle! Id like to see more medieval townsfolk/peasants,/villagers as well
@raddadchris Definitely. I think there's a chance in this hypothetical that LEGO would sell those themselves and only a few would wind up at retail since they would not be action oriented.
In my opinion, one of the best movies ever made. Almost perfect. Grace, betrayal, redemption, forgiveness, bravery, lust, pride all in the forefront of this epic. Outstanding fight scenes. Outstanding fight scenes. Did I say outstanding fight scenes? Fantastic weapons and armor. Great cinematography. The best classical score of any movie. Overall 10/10. My favorite scenes, two - After the grail is found, Arthur and the land are one again. It goes from famine in the land to Arthur and his knights riding to the battle with Mordred, thru a grove of trees, cherry blossoms covering them as they ride, O' Fortuna playing in the background. Truely epic. The second, the Knights are getting tromped by Modred and his army, and a cry of "Lancelot", who had abandoned Camelot in shame 20 years before, goes up among the Knights. Lancelot, dressed in rags, wielding a club, comes in laying waste to Modred's armored knights, screaming "Arthur". In my opinion, the perfect scene of a fallen Paladin coming back for forgiveness and redemption. Brings tears to my eyes. All people are human and make mistakes, even if you are the perfect knight, but can be forgiven and redeemed. There have probably been a thousand versions of the King Arthur myth written. In many it is Lancelot's son, Galahad, who finds the Grail, as he was the only pure knight. Percival could only see the grail as if it was behind a veil. Interesting and unsettling tid bit about the movie, Igraine, the young lady that Uther Pendragon seduced, graphic nude sex scene and all, was played by Katrine Boorman, director of Excalibur John Boorman's daughter. Ither didn't even take off his armor. Must have been an interesting day on the set. Again, in my opinion, one of the ten best movies ever made.
It is an excellent movie. The scene with after Arthur is healed from the Grail and rides out to face Mordred is a great scene. I'm partial to when Arthur and Mordred kill each other with the red sun in the background, from a visual standpoint. From an acting/story standpoint I think I favor when Arthur apologies for needing to be more than a man and not being able to be a proper husband. I did not know that about who played Igraine.
The amount of content you have put out in the last 30 days or so is impressive. Great job. And, oh, Star Wars, apathy.

Looking at your recent LEGO Castle video, maybe they could use parts of the Arthur legend as inspiration? It should all be public domain.
@@BigLegoFan82997 That might be an idea they should consider.
I would definitely like to see sets designed around that Kraken heraldry. And more Castle in general.
I think a faction based on that Kraken emblem has potential. Color wise it would be something we haven't seen before. Being an aquatic creature I would expect their faction to be more boat based.
I agree, the kraken faction could be really cool if done well. I'd also like the yellow and black raven faction to become a thing. We got that in the CMF line a few years ago, and that minifig is quite expensive now.
@raddadchris I agree, that Raven emblem and figure were good and could serve as a basis for a new faction.

So I don't still watch Star Wars, or any Disney, because of them canning Gina Carano and then them getting involved in politics. But, the sequel trilogy wrecked the original three. In the Last Jedi when Han and Chewie made their first appearance, I got goose bumps and teary eyed. Then it went down from there. Waiting decades for that moment, with hundreds of books, comics, video games and four movies, an absolutely massive amount of content. Disney - Naw, we don't need that crap, we are more talented and know what is best. We are going to reimagine Star Wars. So Ben is Han's kid, not Lukes. No Solo twins. No Mara Jade. Don't need that crap. We don't need YOU, the old fans. Get with the 21st century. Rey has spent her entire life as she knows it on a planet as a scavenger but jumps in the Falcon and flies it better than Han. Then shows up Han mechanically, knowing the Falcon better than he does. Luke throws down his lightsaber rather than turn to the dark side, then runs and hides after bringing down the emperor. Oh, and I'll kill my nephew while I'm at it, I had a bad dream. Son kills dad. If I had been the writer of this trash, I would have at least had Chewie, who has been known to rip off folk's arms when getting beat in space chess, after seeing his lifelong companion killed, absolutely destroy the Storm Troopers, driving heads into shoulders, ripping arms off and leveling the facility single handedly. Then Luke tosses away the light saber Rey bring him and dies in the most pathetic way possible. OK, so Star Wars ain't what it used to be. It ain't for me. Mando had hope, especially when Luke came for Baby Yoda, another goosebump teary eyed moment. Haven't seen any Star Wars since. Pathetic writing, driving a message antithetical to the vast majority of the fans, changing the lore, and telling us we don't need you -we are activists, the gayest, nerds are gay, 3PO and R2 are in a gay relationship, the force is female crap, has gotten Disney their wish, I left. Unless someone comes along and buys the IP, Star Wars is no longer for me. I watched this because I am friends with some of you guys, not because of the topic. It was nice while it lasted, and I still have the original stuff.
I do share some of that sentiment and I do sometimes wonder why I keep watching. I assume, especially after my videos on The Acolyte, some people watching are wondering why I keep watching. And I guess I wanted to be clear about why we keep talking about Star Wars despite obviously severely disliking parts of it. So, here we are. Thanks for the comment.
Your missing out on Andor and the Bad Batch. These two shows like the Mandalorian tells us that not everything can be solved with a lightsaber. There are good things in life, as well as bad things in life. If we cannot take the good with the bad we become stuck in place, and therefore afraid to innovate. Take for example George Lucas himself. After completing his first three masterpieces of Star Wars, all we had for the greater part of 20 years were rehashes and remakes of the first three. It was only when he created the next three that he was faced with harsh criticism because by then he wasn't creating a fun movie, something for us to wonder about about our very far off past, in a very distant galaxy far far away (any longer) but movies that compete with the first three, in wanting to be more, i.e more glorious, more space-opera like, more this or that. Yet if we look and observe for instance at the book of Bobba Fett, the Mandalorean, Andor and the Bad Batch, what we see are folks and individuals who are like us, with real world problems. Where if we observe how their lives are like in comparison to our own, we may find that what they go through with the Empire, droids, clones, and ai, we may well soon encounter these things too (again) in the very near and distant futures. Life is filled with negatives and positives. Negatives are not necessarily bad because how else can we grow or we can recognise something is bad if we cannot weigh both opposing poles - good and bad, positive and negative, poorly written from the better well thought out written, to the caringness to give a good product from one that only serves to make a profit, etc.
This is one of your best videos yet, keep it up big dog.
Thanks. I've been meaning to make a video like this for a while. Then some things came up in our post Acolyte reality and I decided now is as good a time as any. Parts of Star Wars mean a lot to me and a lot of other people.
I haven't seen this one, I'll have to watch it. Buckeroo Banzai is interesting, 7/10. RoboCop 9/10.
I'll have to rewatch Buckaroo Banzai sometime soon. Then I'll have to see if any of the other guys have watched it. If I can find a book I have I can talk a little about a connection to BattleTech.
Peter Weller is under used. I liked him in Star Trek Enterprise.
Didn't Lego say that they are done with Star Wars by 2032?
@@jasondismuke4837 Where did you hear that?
@geekcabal2599 it was going around in 2022 when lego announced that they will extend the license until 2032. There were a number of RUclips videos about it.
@@jasondismuke4837 Without having seen the videos in question, I wouldn't put any stock into that unless it came from LEGO. I have seen numerous items (products, conventions, etc.) where people start claiming it's going to end because a contract end date is known, even though that contract is an extension of an old contract illustrating what will likely happen again at the end of that contract. More importantly, it would be financially irresponsible to announce that they are parting ways a decade before they do. But I could be wrong.
Definitely not going to happen anytime soon but if they put money to developing space and deep sea themes instead of star wars I would be all for it.
@saltylemonton5537 I'm definitely down for Space to make a comeback. I think this latest incarnation, even though it's technically part of City, is testing the waters to see if it can coexist with Star Wars. Previous attempts at Space via City were "now" or "near future" so could plausibly be the LEGO City version of NASA. The latest version is more futuristic and has aliens. It's a lot more in line with older Space themes. Kind of like the difference between City Mining sets and Rock Raiders.
@geekcabal2599 yes! I"ve been recently interested in the city space sets! I really hope it turns into its own proper theme
