  • Right after saying I won't compare plate carriers to the 6094, I immediately do just that. This is mostly focusing on the Ferro Concepts FCPCv5, and the LBT 6094 just happens to be a natural comparison for reasons I go over in the video. There's also a significant digression about cummerbunds, and the Ferro 3" Assault Cummerbund in particular.
    Please buy some patches so I can keep doing this kind of thing.

    You were talking about the design elements that are similar between the Ferro and the LBT 6094. This honestly doesn't surprise me as Ferro got there start making AOR1 replica 6094 plate carriers for Airsofters. I am sure during this period they realized the good, bad, and ugly of the 6094s and took the good into account when going on to make their own designs. Ferro Concepts is one of those success stories that I think is pretty cool over all.

    Also ferro does make quick release adapters for the assault cummerbund , but it's a separate purchase and rarely instock from what I've seen

    I have RMA 1155mc plates in my v5. It did indeed take some finess and thought to get them in. And i had to cleverly trim and taper the edges of my foam backers. I just use 3/8" eva foam.
    The 1155's definitely push the plate bags to the limit though and if i weren't fairly decent with sewing I'd be concerned about prolonged hard use breaking a thread here and there on the tweave middle section.
    Also had to cut and relocate the hook panel on the rear plate bag further back on the shoulder strap and trim a couple inches of excess strap to even get near a proper fit. Have the Beez pads on the straps as well.
    I use an AXL equinox cummerbund and it works pretty well.
    Now that's its all tailored and set, it's quite nice. But it did take more effort than i think it should for the price.

    Great video! I just purchased a Ferro 2 days ago and I stumbled across this video today. I like the points you made on it and overall the way you conducted the review. I’m 5.11” at 185lbs and ordered a Medium. I hope it fits perfectly as i just had an issue with a Crye JPC 2.0 and returned it because I ordered a swimmers cut medium and it fit very small as if it were for a middle schooler.

    • @nicothenodgoblin9117
      @nicothenodgoblin9117  2 года назад +2

      The JPC in particular, and Crye in general, fit a little differently from basically everyone else on the market. That said, something like 80% of people can wear a medium according to Qore, and my anecdotal evidence gathering seems to agree. Something to remember, which I'll get into eventually, is that the JPC seems to be deliberately designed to force wearing a smaller plate as part of the very minimalist kit. That said, you may be at the tipping point that, depending on your carrier, that large is a better option.

      @@nicothenodgoblin9117 I also messed up by getting the swimmers cut version which was shortened little over an inch on every side. The Ferro setup gets delivered today and I really hope the medium fits, don’t want to deal with a return.

    The AC3 had a cummerbund adapter when you made this video, you skipped the built in admin pouch as well.
    SKD runs 15%+ sales quarterly and 20%+ twice a year.
    Also, the sea cucumer cummerbund in the video was kinda funky as it was not FC or LBT.
    Still a solid 8/10!

    the only similarity between the FCPC and the 6094 are that they are both plate carriers.

    Very useful video.
    I was looking for a reviewer that is a similar built to me.
    Ferro FCPC is not friendly towards smaller to average built users.
    It's a shame you didn't touch much on the shoulder strap tape mod. It would have been useful for me and others. I know peeps are trying to look for ways to make the shoulder straps smaller without cutting anything.

    • @nicothenodgoblin9117
      @nicothenodgoblin9117  2 года назад

      I definitely found the FPC to fit great on my frame. A little disappointing that they're not available in small, but it's hard to get plates in that size anyway.
      For the shoulders, just overlap the straps until it fits, then fold the extra bits back and tape them in place. Usually two wraps of electrical tape works, especially if it's under a wrap-around shoulder pad. If it's not covered, then athletic tape is non-reflective.

    Was curious on the fcpcv5 for plate fitment it says 10x12 1” thick… can this plate carrier accommodate a 1.1” thick RTS Ceramic NIJ 0101.06 Level IV Rifle Protection 10X12 Plate Insert without stretching or causing accelerated wear?

    • @nicothenodgoblin9117
      @nicothenodgoblin9117  2 года назад +2

      It generally seems like it's easier to get gear that fits bigger people than for smaller people. I try to specifically point out if the problem I have is because I'm a small guy and it's not fitting me, but could work for someone bigger, which is more actual detail than most reviewers. And I try to explain the why's and how's instead of just hinting towards them and how I have an opinion while directly comparing it to other points of reference.

      Since youre awake, do you think mil surplus plate carriers are worth it?

    • @nicothenodgoblin9117
      @nicothenodgoblin9117  2 года назад

      Depends on your pricing, sizing, and what you're looking for. Generally speaking, standard issue plate carriers, especially ones that have hit the surplus market, are dated, compromise designs. I sorta mention it sideways in the "Plate Carriers as a System" article on Hague Solutions, which will be available once Maid finishes migrating it all to new hardware. Unless you're specifically going for a LARP or an impression, they're generally not the best choice.
      That said, newer ones are getting better. I've heard good things about the USMC PC, and the Gen 4 IOTV is basically an MBAV with shoulder ears. Also, at least in the US, there's a much wider variety of carrier sizes available than on the civilian market, and if you want soft armor, a filled surplus IOTV is usually cheaper than layering a second chance vest with a plate carrier. They're also pretty durable.
      A lot depends on your personal circumstances, as usual, and what you're looking for. They're going to be unspecialized, but generally pretty decent. I don't like them personally for a variety of reasons I've mentioned, but as a bigger guy they may work better for you, especially if you can get a screaming hot deal on one.

      @@jackmehoff2363 The US Army plate carrier I wore in 2010-11 (not the IOTV) sucked. It used buckles on two straps to hold the side plates and no matter how much you cinched them down they would sag after 30 minutes of patrol and grind into your sides/hip bones.
