I also live alone. Don't give away the cheese...it freezes well. Milk also freezes nicely. When i get home I divide my bigger container of milk into 5 or 6 portions. I freeze all but one. I rinse out my small plastic water bottles then freeze the milk in them. I don't drink milk, but use it in sauces like for mac and cheese (with the frozen cheese). It is a lot cheaper this way. I also take chicken thighs and wrap 2 per pkg. and put into large ziploc so they don't get "lost" in the freezer. If I have guests I take out 2 or 3 pkgs. instead of just one. I also cook big batches of rice in my IP and then freeze in 1 cup servings in baggies....press them down flat so they take little to no time to thaw. I often set the baggie in a sink of hot water while I cook the rest, then nuke the rice in the bag for 2 to 3 mins. Just like the day I cooked it! When i batch cook I freeze 2 to 4 portions of 3 different meals each...giving me enough for almost 2 more weeks of quick dinners. Perfect for chili, stew, shepherds pie, clam chowder. Most of these foods taste better the next day anyway.
Cheese freezes beautifully! I would stick half in the freezer and keep half in the fridge. When you run out you can pull it out from the freezer. Hope that helps.
Walmart, Costco, and Smart & Final are our go-to stores monthly. We drive 45 minutes to do our shopping monthly. Agree that California is pricey depending on where we live.
Great video and ideas. I too just cook for myself , but I live in the Midwest so some of our prices are a little more reasonable. My 2 week grocery budget is $150 so very close to yours. I don't like a lot of frozen items especially veggies, so my biggest expense is on fresh veggies. I do watch for meat sales and I will buy a large package of chicken, beef or pork and just portion them out and freeze them.
Egg bites are super easy to make and then freeze if you arent going to Costco for awhile. Eggs, peppers, onion, shredd some of that extra cheese, add in anything else you want-bacon, sausages, spinach, etc
Great video! I'm not great at meal planning, but I save a ton of time and money when I do. I like to look at the various ad papers for my area to see what's on sale to help me make my decisions. If chicken is on sale...we are eating chicken! I'm also not a huge fan of eating leftovers, so it's a challenge to figure out how to make leftovers taste like a different meal. This week, we had tacos on Monday, burgers on Tuesday, and then "Taco Pizza" today, using the leftover meat from Monday. Thank you for sharing your journey. I look forward to trying the overnight oats recipe. 😊
I used to have the same problem with milk going bad but I found if I purchase organic milk it has a much longer life than the regular milk. It def costs more but we have no waste.
My daughter does this because she is by herself and had the same trouble with milk going bad. She asked her dad to pick some up for her and he said what kind do you want ? The fancy $75 milk 😂 of course he was exaggerating but it is a bit more expensive but overall if you aren’t wasting it, it is worth it in my opinion.
Absolutely love the new videos that you’re posting, Desiree. Please keep them going.! 😊 I live alone too and I got some great ideas just watching this.! Thanks.! 🩷
Great video Desiree, meal planning is a good idea but you wouldn’t believe how many people don’t like eating leftovers. I don’t mind. Because I really don’t like cooking, I stick to one pot meals or quick and easy meals in the air fryer.
Next time you need tahini, get it from Trader Joe's. Buying for one person is so hard. I use to stock up on Trader Joe's frozen foods to get me through on the days I didn't want to grocery shop for fresh stuff.
hi Desiree, I am a new subscriber to your channel and i am enjoying it. I too would budget $80 for groceries but it would be bi-weekly. i have noticed depending on what produce you are wanting to buy, getting it from an Asian market tends to be a bit cheaper than the grocery stores. Not sure if you have already tried this. I am terrible about meal planning, wonderful idea. thank you
i love tuna sandwiches and sometimes i add cucumbers or doritos ontop dont forgot to press on it so you can smash those chips other wise you'll get those things poking you
When it comes to cheese near the expiration date is I make baked Mac n cheese. A pan of it lasts a week for my husband and I. Also, since you don't mind meal planning have you thought about making your egg bites at home?
I've actually made the egg bites at home...they were good but if I only eat them on the weekend I would only need to make 4 which I don't want to bother with. Also, these are way better than any recipe that I have ever made so convenience wins on this one!
There was a really good sale on cottage cheese so I've been eating that and some fruit for lunch everyday. Super cheap and I dont need to dtress a microeave or people interrupting me.

Good to know! But giving away cheese would be to my family so it’s all good also I might want to eat a different flavor eventually 😅
Freeze your left overs and eat on another day in the month.
Ewww freezing milk taste disgusting afterwards. All watered down no thank you
I agreenot great for just drinking...but great in soups and sauces@@Chroniclesofacashstuffingirl
Not if you shake it up. The milk fat separated from the rest, so if you shake it up it's like new. 😊@@Chroniclesofacashstuffingirl
I love these new kind of videos like the shop with me and this one!! Definitely would love if you kept doing them ❤
Thank you fro letting us know that Costco carries starbucks egg bites...i had no idea 😊
Cheese freezes beautifully! I would stick half in the freezer and keep half in the fridge. When you run out you can pull it out from the freezer. Hope that helps.
Omg it does?!? I had no idea thank you!
@@Happy2planwithDesiree yes! It doesn’t matter if it is block, sliced, shredded etc it all freezes well.

I lo ed this video ❤ it shows really how you manage your budget and it is interesting to see how people in different countries live, thank you!

Yes I’ve made them before! But I prefer the Starbucks one still. It’s a nice treat for myself🤗

Thanks for the tip about organic milk! I never knew this!
We do the same thing!
Organic milk and when the packaging is really thick and solid. If any light gets in it turns faster
That was fun! Great ideas...

This is great information, great video Desiree!
If you have an Aldi groceries store, I would try going in there too. Their groceries are really cheap and great quality.
Great planning ideas Desiree!
Yes it is a struggle trying to finish things before they go bad being only 1 person...
San Diego native here!!

Could we have your base overnightoat recipe? I am interested 😊 do you use chia ever?
I used this recipe as the base so the oats, yogurt and milk. And this one also calls for chia so I always add that
