Thanks for the clip. I live in Australia so the heat in summer plays a big part. Sounds like the A329 Collingwood option would benefit me down here. It is going to be our 1st dash cam and I think the Viofo sounds like the best option after much research. Appreciate your hard work mate.
If it helps I've had the a229 Pro down in Au with 4 hour interstate drives super hot days and never had an issue with overheating. Till this day never had an issue with the a229 pro overheating 😃
Sydney here - I’m looking to upgrade from a crappy dash camera that died to a viofo but I don’t think I’d need the lcd screens so I’m thinking the a139, hopefully can handle the heat
@@julianestrada8524Great to hear, just waiting for delivery of my A229 Pro to use in the inferno heat of Miami, FL and have been hearing about the overheating issue and the A229 Plus being better in this regard plus cheaper but happy to hear your experience with it.
@@panman2632 so I did a backflip and got the one with lcd lol. I went with viofo a229 plus since it was the same price, will I use the lcd probably not lol so I don’t know why I even bought it but yeah the unit gets pretty warm being in Sydney especially summer!
I've been running the A129 Pro Duo in my summer car and wanted to get a Viofo camera for my new winter vehicle this year. I left my other A129 Pro Duo installed in my last winter car as I sold it to a friend. After looking at the A229 Pro 2CH and the A329 during all the Black Friday sales, I was able to get another A129 Pro Duo with a hardwire kit for ~$200 CAD, which is a huge discount over what it normally runs and about $200 cheaper than what an equivalent package for the A229 Pro would have run me, and $350 cheaper than the A329. But you nailed it, and -- at normal pricing -- I think the A229 Pro 2CH represents the best value for money, as the A329 is still quite expensive for what is an incremental upgrade in capabilities.
Proud owner of a A119 for 5 years now - it is wired on ignition on only (not constant power) and hasn't skipped a beat. I use SD cards specifically made for hot environments and haven't had any issues. I live in Australia and the car can get hot up to 60C inside in summer and the camera still works fine. I might be one of the lucky ones, as I read some comments from people below claiming their A129 failed them sooner rather than later. By the way, I also did flash the latest official firmware I could find when I bought it many years ago, so perhaps a combination of factors helps prolong the life of the device?
My A129 Pro just starting having fits. Locking up, SD card i think is bad as its stuck in write protected now, wifi wont stay connected. I'm in KY so it doesnt get extreme hot like Vegas or Aus. Trying to decide what to upgrade to or buy another. This one was only a year old.
@@BimmerFix Samsung Pro Endurance. I either had to pay $25 registered mail or $9 unregistered for a $15 card. Of course (silly me) I elected the $9 since it wouldn't make sense to pay more in postage than the product itself! Sandisk claimed they never received the card and I couldn't prove otherwise, so I lost $9 on top of that. 😆 Lesson learnt - it might be cheaper to just buy a new one and forgo any 'warranties' - unless you happen to live close to where you are shipping and can prove some kind of delivery (good luck with that too).
I’ve always wondered the same thing. I don’t think any dash cam company gives us that information. I have a Lukas H900 which supposedly is 4k but I can only read plates when everything is still.
Better resolution and lower FPS = BETTER STILL FRAMES Unless you're making a movie where FPS matters, you want higher resolution instead. This camera feels like both an upgrade and downgrade at $400.
Great review you've done. I live in Oztralia and it gets a teeny tiny too toasty Down Under for a lot of the year. Absolutely has to be a piece of heat resistant kit before anything else. Need to do more research. Cheers, mate!
Interesting... I wondered about the upgrade too... (I've got 2 A229 Pro's) but for me, the big thing is HEAT.. I wish VIOFO had a 2 pack 1 channelA229 PRO / or A329 systems. What I'd like to know is how much extra heat is generated when you attach either the 2 or 3 channel options. I see using 2 1-channel A229 PRO / A329 cam's as being the way to go.. sure it's a bit more expensive but I also suspect that kind of configuration would have less incidence of system crash / failure / need to restart because of heat. Now, here's what I'd really like... I'd like a remote head unit that has cable'a going to the cameras... where the head unit could be away and out of the way of sunlight... (DUH!) and have a 4 or perhaps a 6 channel system where all the data is stored on an external device (SSD's) each on their own data channel. Doing this would allow VIOFO to include a cooling fan in the head unit to ensure it's not hot! BTW.. having a "head unit" away from the camera would let all the cameras 1,2,3,4,6 channel systems all have the same resolution... time stamps, and everything else... but then again what would I know... ??? Hmmm? Do you know if VIOFO is looking to use the IMX678 video chips in for all the cameras in the future?
Oh, okay, I commented on this once already but what you said make total sense and like I said I have two A129 and I'm looking for something better. I think that I will be ordering one with the hardwire kit also, thank you sir for all your work.
I would love to see an A229 Pro settings and walkthrough/how-to video. I JUST got the A229 Pro during the last Prime Day sale and was bummed to see waiting a little would have given me another option but like you said, it’s not a “must do” upgrade.
As I told you yesterday I just ordered the A229 Pro so I will not be upgrading and like the specs on it, and especially the option of a 3rd cam inside the car.
Better and Reliable built like a Tank. Nextbase 622GW (noted for SD Card issues) or Thinkware U3000 best dashcam for Parking Mode. I believe the Viofo A139 Pro or Blackvue DR970X be okay just avoid Dashcams with a built-in Screen. If you have the A229 Pro, no need to upgrade unless you like video recording everything then the SSD is handy.
Is there ANY dash cam or 2 sets of dash cams I can use to run 360 degree recording but NOT record inside the car? I've thought about 2 sets of Viofos with one controlled by a bluetooth button. It's annoying as all heck you can't control multiple cameras with a singular button. OR get a 3 channel that has 2 of the same secondary cameras and then a singular cam for the back. I have a '23 Wagoneer and it's so big, I want to have cameras looking out each side. But I drive high profile clients and do NOT want any cam that records the interior.
This makes me re-think if I really want this. I recently bought the a229 pro and honestly thought the 60fps would make a big difference since I was having issues seeing plates in oncoming traffic. Seems it won't really matter much except make the video quality nicer. I like to be able to save good quality smooth clips for showing friends and family but not sure if it's worth it. the ssd and wifi 6 is nice. But it's a lot of work to wire the cables again and set everything up, the worst part is honestly that I will have trash warranty compared to if I buy it here whenever it arrives in the EU market. In sweden, we have 2 years coverage by law against unexpected defects or too short longevity of the product and the burden of proof is on them if they claim it isn't an issue with the design or original factory flaw. Then another year where the burden of proof is on the customer but still not too difficult to get warranty. Will be bothersome to do any kind of warranty with a company sending stuff from china and that isn't governed by swedish/eu law. I think the best option might be to cancel the order before it's sent and just buy it when it arrives in sweden/eu instead if I still feel like it or just wait for another more substantial upgrade.
Viofo cams with rear camera cause problems with TPMS systems in 2019 and up GM trucks. (Silverado and Sierra trucks). Unless you mount the front camera at the far right of the windshield and run the rear camera cable down the passenger side, you'll have problems with your TPMS system. Unplug the rear cam and the TPMS system works fine. The reason for this is the TPMS receiver AND antenna are in the headliner near the center of the vehicle and near the windshield. And the camera cable should have a shield that is grounded to the vehicle ground to prevent this interference. I love my Viofo 4k cam, but I can't use my rear camera unless I move my front camera to the right side of the truck, and I'm. not willing to do that.
If they wanted to make something truly different, they should've taken on the performance data recorder, and added accelerometers plus onboard telemetry.
I've seen videos of the a229 Pro vs the a119 mini 2 with the a119 having better quality and night mode quality.. some said it was because the a229 didnt have the best firmware before and its since been updated. Have you noticed the a229 pro get better more recently? It's kinda crazy how much better the a119 was in these videos i've seen
dont understand why they havent a released a 3chanel of the a329. i'm going from no dash cam to choosing one and i want the interior cam to put inside the cargo area of the van to protect tools etc. but they only have a 3+chanel on the a229...:(
How awesome would it be if 2 companies like Viofo and Blackvue worked together on a camera??? I wish that would happen. Amazing video quality with the cloud features as well. I'll keep dreaming.
So if I understand this correctly, if I *want* 3-channel, I should go with the 229 Pro instead of the 329, correct? Well, that sucks. ☹️ I’d like to have the features of the 329 but I don’t want to give up the interior camera option.
At 1:43, you mentioned the upgrade path from the A229 Duo to the A329. You stated you can use the same GPS mount. The GPS mount used with the A229 Duo is not compatible with the A229 Pro/Plus nor the A329. You can use the same rear camera video cable as the A229 Duo, but you will have to switch out the GPS mount for the A329.
@@VortexRadar @Panzer Platform and I both tried the A229 Duo GPS mount with the A229 Pro/Plus dash cameras and they did not work. VIOFO confirmed that the A229 Duo GPS is different than the new A229 Pro/Plus GPS mount. The A229 Duo GPS mount will provide power to the A229 Pro/Plus, but there will be no GPS/Speed data embedded in the video.
Ahh gotcha. I only tested it for power in my office, not in the road. Gotcha. Thanks for the heads up! Luckily you can replace the mount, but good to know that it’s only partially compatible and you will need to swap to get GPS working.
How does the A139 Pro compare to the 229 Pro? I'm merely interested in excellent video quality, no screen required and not super into cloud functions. As you say in here, I already have a reverse camera, why another?
I have a Kenwood DNX893S head unit in my 2003 Corvette and an old, bad 2-channel dash cam. I'm looking to upgrade all of this. The newest (I believe) Kenwood head unit is the DNX997XR and with Kenwood's dash cam DRV-N520 plugged into it, there is extra functionalities. It would be great if you were to review these products. I don't see car stereo reviews on your channel, but maybe you could make an exception since the DNX8935 serves as the controller for the DRV-N520.
Thanks for the suggestion, but that’s not something I have any interest in covering. I’m sure you can find other good resources for that elsewhere though.
Found you on YT as I'm currently doing research for my first dash cam... I actually live in your neighborhood (I'll be sure to say hi if run into you), so not being a super hot climate seems like the A229 might be a good choice
I’ve been saving up for the A229 pro for a while I’m stoked they released a new model because the A229 pro is way cheaper. Now I just gotta decide if I can now afford the 3 Chanel. If anyone has any good reason to a 3 Chanel id love to hear it
Yep, there's some BF sales now. :) Here's a brand new article that compares the two directly: www.vortexradar.com/2024/11/viofo-a229-pro-vs-viofo-a329-comparison/
Been looking at the 229 and the 329 may, or may not, be worth considering. I'll have to look at that more. One question, I realize these are not as high quality but what about the FticamX stuff? I have an X5 and the idea of a factory looking, simple install is intriguing.
Vortex, I saw the earlier video. As good as the picture clarity is, it lacks the connectivity features of the BlackVue. I wish BlackVue did a software update so it could match Viofos video quality. They do have the same sensors in them right?
stick with the Blackvue 970X and wait to see what bugs /problems arise with the A329 Pro, Viofo crammed a few extras in an already small unit. Needs a lot of Cooling. Little benefit for those who have the A229 Pro. It is like Intel CPU's ... tweaking up the Frequency on a chip and call it an improvement. LOL. nVidia does the same on Graphics Cards ... give you a slight boost in VR/Memory and a few notches like 4 or 5 FPS for gaming and charge you a fortune for the GPU. Small steps and not much happening. You bought a flagship today, it's outdated the rank of #1 within 3 to 6 months. However, 5 years later still just as good as any new GPU or CPU today. Tech is slow moving but always want you to buy the newest and latest when compared to a few years back, how little has things changed. I'm using a desktop I built in 2017 and the only thing I have changed are my NVMe m.2 SSD cards for more data storage like 1Tb to 2Tb, and a Case cooling fan. It runs Win10 Pro and all my programs very well. Trying to avoid Win 11 at all cost, refuse to upgrade. Okay, my USB 3.0 or 3.1 ports are not USB-C. Just use an adapter if I wanted to.
@@VortexRadar thank you…your video reviews are awesome which makes it hard to chose..right now I’m not running any…looking at A229 Pro or A329….I don’t necessarily need interior cabin camera but may be nice.
Great reviews, currently shopping for a dash cam and watching lots of reviews. Kind of came down to Viofo, either the A229 pro or the A329. The A329 isn’t quite available yet but just looking for a pro’s opinion. And are they the same physical size? Thanks in advance. Amazon has the 3 channel A229 pro for $299 right now.
Can you disable the LCD display? I really like the image quality but dont want a dashcam with a display. I have a U1000 and F200, trying to replace the F200.
What if you’re starting from 0, should I just start with the 329 or try a save a few $ and go with the 229? Also I live in New Mexico so heat could be an issue.
I have the A129 Pro Duo and can't make up my mind to go with the A229 or the A329 the A129 have been giving me problems in a matter of fact I have two A129 are just junk they work for a little while for a few days and then I have to cut the power and start it back up again, hmmm, do I really want to go with the A329 or just go with another.
They’re the Rode Wireless Pro mics. I initially got them to handle tue extreme volume levels for SEMA, but they’ve been awesome for basically everything so I use them all the time now. amzn.to/4dx0RAW
It would be wildly impractical, lol. GoPros can run with batteries, for example, but they last for about an hour and constantly require you to swap batteries. You want a dashcam to be set-it-and-forget it so in practice you should use the included wiring so everything works consistently and then just tuck them out of sight behind your vehicle's body panels.
As ALWAYS, it depends on your personal needs and use cases. It's like asking "what's the best car" as if there's one answer that's correct for every person in every area. To oversimplify, I like the A329 as a standard 1/2 channel dashcam, but if you need some of the features offered by the competition that the Viofo's lack, then you'll want to consider a different option.
It depends what purpose you need a Dashcam for. The Starvis 2 IMX678 is a real game changer for image clarity. You may want to wait until Xmas or next year when on Sale, maybe a better option will surface. Don't fix what is not broken. Are you willing to pay the extra $$ when you don't really need to? Does not hurt to wait and check your options later. Family comes first and then future retirement plans. The A129 Pro Duo was released October 2019. Personally, I'd wait 3 to 6 months since there was no rush which you did not get the A229 Pro, now be patient for the A329 Pro as to what Bugs or problems arise with the new product. Then get it.
Why I would not buy A329 in the USA: because it has only 2 channels. I was expecting that starting from 2024-2025 and the launch of Viofo 2K telephoto secondary camera, american people to buy only dashcams with telephoto lens. You know that we are waiting for the USA video regarding telephoto lens and license plates. Why A229 Pro with 3 channels and not A329 with 2 channels? Because as an american I would put the main A229 Pro camera and telephoto camera to the front and the rear camera on the back. When I would buy A329 instead of A229? When I am using Parking mode a lot. Parking mode is generating a lot of heat, some stupid owners are using windshield sun protectors and this is killing their dashcams. But before killing the dashcam they are killing the card. If you put the hand on the SSD and also on the card you saw that the SSD is much cooler compared to the card. There can be other reasons I have in mind but this post is already too long.
When companies do this, it’s commonly because they want to get the higher margins for the initial sales without giving Amazon a cut. Once all the early adapters buy in and then they want to get it to a wider market, then they release it on Amazon too. I don’t know if that’s what’s happening here too, or if it’s related to limited inventory initially or something else, but it’s one explanation.
That would require recording at 120fps to combine adjacent frames into 60 fps. It's certainly doable and there's other cameras that can do that already, but then you start running into needing faster processors, even greater thermal requirements, etc. lol
Same, my single channel SG still works great, I use it for rentals. My personal vehicle has the SG9667DC2K Dual Channel. I live in the NE where winters get frigid and summers get hot and humid and it just works.
This guy needs to stop filming his videos while driving! He can't talk without using his hands, so driving while filming means he only has one hand on the wheel & he spends most of his time loking at the camera instead of at the road.
lol, the reason I wear sunglasses in these videos is because I keep my eyes on the road which makes the video feel more disconnected when I’m not looking into the camera. I’m glad the illusion is working.

Have you noticed the a229 pro get better more recently? It's kinda crazy how much better the a119 was in these videos i've seen
dont understand why they havent a released a 3chanel of the a329. i'm going from no dash cam to choosing one and i want the interior cam to put inside the cargo area of the van to protect tools etc. but they only have a 3+chanel on the a229...:(
My A129 recently died and I am using the new A329 release to get an A229 pro on discount.
Exactly!
So, if you don't currently have a dash cam AND you live in AZ or TX, get the A329. Right?
At 1:43, you mentioned the upgrade path from the A229 Duo to the A329. You stated you can use the same GPS mount. The GPS mount used with the A229 Duo is not compatible with the A229 Pro/Plus nor the A329. You can use the same rear camera video cable as the A229 Duo, but you will have to switch out the GPS mount for the A329.
No? I grabbed my A229 Duo mount out of the box because I needed a spare one for testing and it worked. Did it not work for you?
I recommended the A229 Pro to my dad this morning because it's quite a bit cheaper than the 329 currently.
Smart
How does the A139 Pro compare to the 229 Pro? I'm merely interested in excellent video quality, no screen required and not super into cloud functions. As you say in here, I already have a reverse camera, why another?
Nice car seats , what make is your suv ?
I actually live in your neighborhood (I'll be sure to say hi if run into you), so not being a super hot climate seems like the A229 might be a good choice
haha hey neighbor! :)
Like don't run into him literally. Remember, he's got several dashcams installed!! LOL!
I’ve been saving up for the A229 pro for a while I’m stoked they released a new model because the A229 pro is way cheaper. Now I just gotta decide if I can now afford the 3 Chanel. If anyone has any good reason to a 3 Chanel id love to hear it
I have the a129 no it's not my only dashcam but I would most definitely would
I plan to buy Viofo dash cam. Should I buy A229 pro or A329 2 channel? How much are they now? Is there any Thanksgiving discount available?
Yep, both are on sale. See here: www.vortexradar.com/2024/11/black-friday-2024-deals-radar-detectors-dash-cameras/
Discussed multiple times in previous videos. Cool design, poor execution.
@@VortexRadar Thanks for the info. Missed the info in previous videos, sorry.
Vortex, I saw the earlier video. As good as the picture clarity is, it lacks the connectivity features of the BlackVue. I wish BlackVue did a software update so it could match Viofos video quality. They do have the same sensors in them right?
Same front sensor, yes, but different image processing. I believe it has a different processor as well.
stick with the Blackvue 970X and wait to see what bugs /problems arise with the A329 Pro, Viofo crammed a few extras in an already small unit.
Hi, I have a question that I can’t find definite answer. What fuses did/do you use to install dash cams( I have viofo a229 pro) ? Thanks!
2-3A is generally plenty
Thanks. Which ones? I mean, like take light or cigarette lighter?
@VortexRadar… which camera do you run for your own personal use?
Right now it’s the A229 Pro as the primary cam in both cars
@@VortexRadar thank you…your video reviews are awesome which makes it hard to chose..right now I’m not running any…looking at A229 Pro or A329….I don’t necessarily need interior cabin camera but may be nice.
I think the A329 overall has better video quality.
Video is different than still images to capture plates.
@@utbigpapa I didn't say anything about still pictures, only that I thought the A329 had an overall better video quality.
Yep same size. Give the prime day sale pricing, the A229 Pro is a better deal IMO
@@VortexRadar perfect, Thanks
Can you disable the LCD display? I really like the image quality but dont want a dashcam with a display. I have a U1000 and F200, trying to replace the F200.
Yep. It powers on at startup and you can choose how soon it goes to sleep.
What are your thoughts on the Wolfbox G900 Pro?
I didn't know agent Kellerman was reviewing dashcams these days
how about A139? it already has a Starvis2 camera
The A139 Pro does, not the original A139. It was the first 4K Starvis 2 model, but I prefer the improvements in the newer A229 and A329 models.
What if you’re starting from 0, should I just start with the 329 or try a save a few $ and go with the 229? Also I live in New Mexico so heat could be an issue.
It’s still early with the 329. I’ve since heard some high temp issues with the 329 so I don’t know yet.
I run the A229 and I would have "maybe" done the upgrade if the wires were the same but not worth doing the wire run again.
I thought he said that the cable was the same, you might want to go back and look at it again.
@@bishopgeorge1333 pretty sure the rear cable is different. Was USB-C on the A229
Power cable and front/rear cable as the A229. Mount works for power, but you will need the new front mount for GPS.
@sdfaulk01 Oh, okay thanks for clearing that up.
Going from no dashcam would you recoment the A329 or A229 Pro?
I just finished an article comparing the two more directly. Does this help? www.vortexradar.com/2024/11/viofo-a229-pro-vs-viofo-a329-comparison/
He says it in the video 329
Hey a non dash cam question. What is the name of that microphone you use attached to your seat belt?
They’re the Rode Wireless Pro mics. I initially got them to handle tue extreme volume levels for SEMA, but they’ve been awesome for basically everything so I use them all the time now. amzn.to/4dx0RAW
I don't have any this will be the first one is the a329 a good choice?
I had two A129 cameras fail within a year. I lost faith in this brand because of that. Sending them back to China for warranty was a hassle.
May I know what kind of issues of the A129?
Which one is best for the Texas heat?
I just purchased the A229 Pro. Do you need to buy a GPS mount, or is it built in?
It comes with the GPS mount
@ sorry, I meant GPS “module”. I saw it on their website for $16.99. Wasn’t sure why they would sell that separately if the dashcam has GPS enabled.
GPS is in the mount, not in the dashcam. If you want a replacement mount, or one for another car, you can buy another separately.
@@VortexRadar thanks
I want to power my Vantrue Dash Cam off my R8 any know of a way?
Do they make a wireless dash cam that can be charged so I font have to worry about the wires
If I don't already own a dash cam, 229 or 329 ?
So the a339 would be a huge upgrade from my Garmin mini 2?
In both video quality and features, yeah. It’ll be a bit larger though, heh.
So what is your best of the best recommendation?
As ALWAYS, it depends on your personal needs and use cases. It's like asking "what's the best car" as if there's one answer that's correct for every person in every area.
To oversimplify, I like the A329 as a standard 1/2 channel dashcam, but if you need some of the features offered by the competition that the Viofo's lack, then you'll want to consider a different option.
So it seems to me it's only worth upgrading if you have a A129 Pro like me.
There can be other reasons I have in mind but this post is already too long.
can you run a329 at 4k30 with HDR if you dont want 4k60?
Yep!
A329 is not available on Amazon... why???
When companies do this, it’s commonly because they want to get the higher margins for the initial sales without giving Amazon a cut. Once all the early adapters buy in and then they want to get it to a wider market, then they release it on Amazon too. I don’t know if that’s what’s happening here too, or if it’s related to limited inventory initially or something else, but it’s one explanation.
Ugh seriously the cable between the 229 and 329 isn’t compatible?????
I know, it is like Apple how they changed their connectors 3X 🤣🤣🤣
@@OnlytheStrongSurvive416 the funny thing is it only hurts then because now I won’t upgrade and buy it
The two channel a229 is $279.99 and the two channel a329 is $399. The marginal cost does not reflect the marginal improvement.
Now for Black Friday they made it even better, just got the A229 Pro 3 Channel version for $279
Do you think they will make a Bluetooth wireless rear camera?
Will the a329 Pro be 4k60 hdr? When will that release? 😅
That would require recording at 120fps to combine adjacent frames into 60 fps. It's certainly doable and there's other cameras that can do that already, but then you start running into needing faster processors, even greater thermal requirements, etc. lol
my front windshield is tinted....just saying. hahaha.
i upgraded from the iPhone 15 pro to the iPhone16 Pro. it was worth it for me.
Great counterexample, lol. What were the main reasons?
@@VortexRadar i lease my iPhone through Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program which allows me to get the latest and greatest phone every year!
Never have had an issue with my Street Guardian...
Same, my single channel SG still works great, I use it for rentals. My personal vehicle has the SG9667DC2K Dual Channel. I live in the NE where winters get frigid and summers get hot and humid and it just works.
Please let me get one of ur old ones
This guy needs to stop filming his videos while driving! He can't talk without using his hands, so driving while filming means he only has one hand on the wheel & he spends most of his time loking at the camera instead of at the road.
lol, the reason I wear sunglasses in these videos is because I keep my eyes on the road which makes the video feel more disconnected when I’m not looking into the camera. I’m glad the illusion is working.
