@Jivy please man DON'T comment if you don't know things! Serj & John were born in Lebanon, Shavo was born in Armenia (then part of the Soviet Union) and Daron was born in Los Angeles but his parents moved to USA only a year before he was born. You can clearly hear a different accent when Serj speaks and sings, how he pronounces the R for exemple...
There's an episode of Anthony Bourdain's show where he went to Armenia and hung out with the lead singer. They had food and talked about Armenian history. It was great.
@Ikue P I never heard about that, is that on youtube somewhere? I'll look for it, but if u have a link or something u could post that'd be great. Thanks for the heads up on that, I'm sure it'll be a great watch.
It is a powerful episode, and enlightening on a lot of levels, about Armenia's history and its peoples. (Of course, many episodes of the late Anthony Bourdain's show are eye-opening)
YES YES YES! Do it, you won't regret it Jamel! Keep it up, I love your authenticity and true appreciation for the art. Subscribed 2 minutes into the first video I watched about a half hour ago haha
Saw these guys live but once - best damn show ive ever seen! Every song transitioned into the next smooth as silk, no breaks, no chaff and with a quality to rival the studio recordings. SOAD are the real deal.
This song is as close to perfection as possible IMO, I could probably have it on repeat 100 times and not get bored of it. One of my favorite songs of all time.
Great reactions! Do “Spiders” or “Sugar” off the first album (the best one, IMO). SOAD are from North Hollywood and Glendale, CA in Los Angeles, where there is a large community of Armenians, like all 4 members of the band. You can hear some of the Armenian musical influence in their music, and some of the songs reference the Armenian Genocide in the early 20th century. BTW, I met Daron (guitar) once when he came into my shop with this tall, model-looking girl, and a friend and I sparked a J with Shavo (bass) at a NIN/Soundgarden concert at Hollywood Bowl.
Been listening to SOAD since I was in 5th grade I could definitely say they Made my childhood so watching someone listen to them for the first time is a good feeling. He's reacting almost the same way I did when I first listened to them 12 years ago
My favourite SOAD song.... THE LYRICS... and THE VIDEO... they go over most people’s head, some because it’s complex, some because the music is just too damn good.
System is my all time favorite band. Serj sings like a mournful angel. I would recommend songs by them but, honestly, they are all differently brilliant. Serj also does solo work. You might want to check out Empty Walls. The video is mindblowing. He performed with the Auckland, New Zealand Philharmonic on their opening night. Wow!!
Wow, you're amazing! Thank you so much for doing all of these. Been a fan of S.O.A.D for so many years, they started everything for me, when I was just 14, and now I am 28. So that's half of my life, I only just realized that now. Means more than you know, seeing someone funny, and also intelligent reacting to this. I don't have enough words! Sending love and support from Denmark! ❤️🙌
@@jamelakajamal My friend, you don't look a day older than 30, at most, I am surprised! Glowing both inside and outside 🙌🙌 I wish you everything good! ❤️
I'm far from what anyone would call a musician, but I've played guitar for most of my life and have written lots of interesting little "riffs" on guitar, but what I could never do is piece any of them together into a coherent song and the difficult part is making these transitions. SOAD said they wanted to create epic 7-10 minute songs condensed down into 2-3 minutes, so they jam a lot of crazy and cool parts into one song and make it seem effortless. It's incredible what they pull off and how they could create unique and heavy music and still crossover to pop charts in the same way that big names like Metallica or Slipknot did.
Highway Song, i-e-a-i-a-i-o, Mr. Jack, Roulette. In a lot of ways these guys are very similar to Rage against the Machine. Great reactions, hope you watch more of System
So this is another deep song.. life is a waterfall, means we are all together until we divide, we support our higher ups until we come together again, we are all brainwashed with small stuff until we rise up and start evolving how we think outside the box
Deftones are amazing and a genre on their own! Check out their songs Change, Rosemary, Royal or Cherry Waves (all from different albums), i will stay tuned for more!
That's a wonderful job you been done here with your channel. I finishe watched your react to hipnotise, and seeing you open your mind and realize this all new culture of sounds make me chills (literally), that's remind me off my first discoveries on that particular style of music. Thank's for sharing that moment with us bro. ps. sorry for my poor english
What A song! Beautifully crafted with amazing lyrics and top notch performance from the band. One of the best songs of that decade! You can´t really go wrong with SOAD songs, they don´t have a bad one, but the this album is a masterpiece. React to ATWA or Forest. Keep up the great reactions!
At @4:25, you mention your appreciation for the "passion they have for their craft"-- My ol' Irish granddad always said "if you're not investing *PASSion*, you're giving it a *PASS*"... Then, @ **5:17**, the vocalist says "when you lose your mind you free your life" -- to which *you* went "Whoo!!" -- Maybe soon you will start being able to decode the messages of *hope* that are so desperately needed in today's climate.... BB&P!!
Lovin these SOAD reactions, brother.... To answer your question, they are all of Armenian descent, But John (drummer) and Serj were born in Beirut, Lebanon, Daron (guitar) in L.A. & Shavo (bass) in Yerevan, Armenia. If you like their stuff as much as you seem to, do yourself a favor and check out some of Serj’s solo stuff too. I’d personally suggest starting with “Empty Walls”. Very short song, but in typical Serj/SOAD type fashion, it contains an intense message... ✌🏼
His super political stuff is mind blowing. He does a song solo on an acoustic in Armenian that is around twelve minutes that really brings it home just how great of an artist he really is. He is a treasure who does so much good for so many people and causes while making what are essentially protest songs.
lena kendall I’ve seen some of that stuff too. Saw one he did with his dad here on YT too that was really nice. Couldn’t understand a word of it as it was in Armenian, but sounded beautiful.
The message behind the song is incredible, man I miss the music of this generation, this is why bands like SOAD will be timeless 🔥🔥🤘🏻🤘🏻 glad your enjoyed the song
I always say the most enlightening time in my life was when I broke free of being locked into one genre of music. I'll listen to any music. I have likes & dislikes, but I'll always give a song a listen.
You get a lot of requests and I'm loving these reactions to SYOD. I just want to suggest some 311: "Come Original," "All Mixed Up," "Creatures for Awhile," and "Flowing." Thanks for the videos 😁.
THey're from L.A.. Also in the video of CHop Suey, I commented its release date, but that was also shot in LA at a Motel parkinglot beginning of 2001 (half a year-ish before release)
Their transitions are amazing and you almost go from one mood into the next just based on the transitions! His voice is amazing also! Question do you feel like your music repertoire has opened more since doing all these difference reactions?
But the best part is you still get the overall tone of their songs. This songs tone is sad, anguished, snd tragic. Like "You have lost your identity to life...that is a shame..."
They are from/based in L.A. and are all of Armenian descent. Bassist Shavo Odadjian was actually born in Armenia. Singer Serj Tankian and drummer John Dolmayan were born in Beirut. And guitarist/vocalist Daron Malakian was born in L.A.

The singer went on to do a solo career but his best work was with a guitarist named BUCKETHEAD ... Look up a song called "We are one" off the enter the chicken album
You seem to really lean toward the bands with seamless transitions. I'm not sure if you are ready for them yet, but Gojira is very good with transitions. One of those bands where their live content is almost always more intense than the studio versions. They put so much energy/passion into their live sets. They are also big environmentalists. And IMHO, they currently have the best drummer in the game.
They're from LA, but they're all ethnically Armenian, couple of them have been born in Lebanon.
Bassist is Armenien, singer is from Lebanon, drummer is from Jordan, guitarist is American.

BYOB was a political protest about the war and how their people and others as well were being treated and how horrible war can be.
There's an episode of Anthony Bourdain's show where he went to Armenia and hung out with the lead singer. They had food and talked about Armenian history. It was great.

Omg, I must find this
Serj and Darons vocals are so contrasting and different yet they harmonize together perfectly 👌
It's cool to go back and listen to some of these songs with someone who is so enthusiastic about checking them out. You're the man!
Pack of 5 Deftones songs-My Own Summer, Change, Digital Bath, Knife Party, Minerva.
Go get your knife and come in...

Serj’s vocals, especially the higher hits always gives me crazy goosebumps
The greatest transitions of any rock band. Seamless.

Soundgarden - Outshined. Still gotta check them out, man.
"When you lose small mind, you free your life. When you free your eyes, eternal prize" 🙌🙌🙌 Those words.

I love that I'm catching you on a SOAD journey. Same day. Incredible!
Hey man. Like your videos. I appreciate your "at the table with me" vibe instead of the "IM PUTTING ON A RUclips SHOW LOUD NOISES!". Subbed.
My favourite SOAD song.... THE LYRICS... and THE VIDEO... they go over most people’s head, some because it’s complex, some because the music is just too damn good.
“When you lose small mind, you free your mind”. So simple but smart.
You're right its life not mind though
Andrew Hadley it is indeed. I shouldn’t comment while groggy.
Soundgarden “Outshined” Chris Cornell is the singer
I'd love to see some Soundgarden reactions as well. "Outshined" "Rusty Cage" "Fell on Black Days", really anything.
I loved watching you enjoy this song. It is their best in my opinion.
man that part where Serj is whispering still gives me goosebumps after all these years
