The blend between the harmonies of the two members really make this group special for me. That and the use of middle eastern instruments and progressions. Serj's voice is really operatic. My favorite moment from Serj and Daron is in Radio/Video.
4 piece band. 1 guitar, 1 bass, 1 drums, 1 singer, guitarist does background vocals. I saw these guys headline Ozzfest in 02 with my wife, it was one of the single most mind-blowing live shows I've ever seen, and I've seen hundreds of shows.

Serj intended to be an opera singer and was told he wasn't good enough and look at him now... a massively successful musician in a metal band. I think they did him a favor by rejecting him and I hope they realize how much potential he has and what they lost/gave up.

I love how this song has the opposite structure of most metal songs. The verse is loud and heavy and the chorus is soft and melodic.
It definitely gives this tragic feel that you know was the goal of the song. It is supposed to be anguished, to feel tragic, to be sad. Because this is a song about losing your identity to the reality of life. Gives that feel of "another one has fallen to this. So we sing mournfully"

But if I had to pick a few, B.Y.O.B., Violent Pornography, and Sad Statue.

The Johnny Cash albums sound good, but thats cause he didnt do anything lol. Supposedly he produced Deloused in the Comatorium, but ive never really believed it.
Smashing Pumpkins aren't exactly great musicians. So he helped polish a few turds, don't mean he's terrible.

Yay, System were one of my favourite bands in highschool, I remember this song in particular blowing my mind! The melodies, the vocals, the heaviness! That being said, I still listen to them to this day, some songs are just timeless. Awwwright!

Daron the guitarist usually plays in Drop D, and one step down (Drop C). He likely played all of the parts in the studio but when they played this one live, the lead vocalist Serj plays too.

I was turned on to them by a friend at work who made a playlist for me and I was hooked. Kudos to you Geebz for an accurate interpretation of the song. I’ve really been enjoying your breakdowns. I’m a 46 yr old punk rock surfer skater lover of all music and the insight you give is pretty great. Other reaction channels are fun. However, most have zero qualifications and understanding to judge or critique these masterful songs. It gets very frustrating. So I just wanted to give you props and let you know some out appreciate your expertise and take on music.
I’d love for you to react to Red Fang’s “Wires” or Prehistoric Dog”. I know they are not huge in the music industry. But they are big enough around the world that I think people would dig your breakdown. They are a heavy rock band from Portland, Oregon and are kind of a mix between Mastadon and Queens of the Stoned Age. Great guys and great song writers.

i saw serj at the first knotfest and he fucking killed it, one of the most impressive and fun artists ive seen live.
Sometimes I don't much care for when just the song is listened to, but Aerials is such a powerful, wonderful song, and when the music video gets watched the reactor tends to focus on the story of the kid, and not the song.

Also, I was the one who recommended Boards of Canada. Arguably the best ambient/experimental band ever. My recommendations were *"Dawn Chorus"* , *"Everything You Do is a Balloon"* , and *"1969"* . I still stand by those. They have a lot of brilliant songs but those are really good ones to start off with. Really hope you give them a chance.

I used to play this one with a band. It's a very simple song to play, but so much fun. I mean, simple for the band, not the singer; he had a time trying to get the inflection of the vocals.
It's in drop C tuning CGCFAD. I think all or most of their songs are in this tuning.

There's no option to find bad song from their repertoire - odd songs - planty - but not "meh" songs. I was a huge fan back in early 2000. I love weird thing so I find their music just perfect. Great reaction, and great ear for harmonies, my man! Keep it up! ;)

Geebz...I love what you do. There are certain artists that touch me in a way that I can't describe (I have no extensive musical background) and it's so cool to see you break them down in a technical way. I know you probably have hundreds of requests to decompose but I will throw this band/singer in the ring....Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakes and the song "Don't Wanna Fight." I love Tool, I love Radiohead and I love System of a Down and the blues-rock style of the Shakes just puts a smile on my face.
In this song of theirs, Serj, the lead vocal is also playing guitar in accompaniment to the lead guitarist, Carton, who also sings back up vocals in this track.
One of my favorite track’s is Scale The Summit + Atlas Novus
I learned dropped “D” guitar tuning just to play this song. That took me on a venture into a whole new instrument. It was an incredible experience tuning my guitar away from the Lynyrd skynyrd, Willie nelson styles I learned with.

Please react to August Burns Red, they are very heavy and also technical as they have a ton of prog metal influence in their discography. Their bassist is a one man band who has written a good number of their more recent songs. I'd start with White Washed, Invisible Enemy, or Bloodletter for a good reaction video.

I'm a bit late to this video but if you're still reading these comments I highly recommend the song Mr Jack by these guys. Honestly has some of the best and most unique vocal harmonies I've heard.
Great breakdown! This song has been with me for basically my whole life, and the toxicity album was the first thing my mom ever put on for me, so hearing other people talk about it, especially you, is such a wonderful experience. There is also this Tunisian artist called 'Emel' who did a beautiful cover of this song. If you ever feel like talking about a more relaxed and calm song i strongly recommend either her version or a cover of an Iranian song called "holm" that she has also done.
