Stuart Zender is an absolute GOD on bass. No one in the last 30 years came up with such fresh and groovy lines to dance to. He redefined bass writing for generations to come, his phrasing chops are legendary.
@JHBarrett Yeah this version was written by Paul Powell according to Stuart Zender. However, Stuart is still a phenomenal bassist himself. I learned a lot from playing his bass lines and thinking about the way his bass line played around the drums and the harmony of the other instruments.
My wife and I flew to England to see Jamiroquai in Portsmouth last week. Space Cowboy was the third song in the set and Paul Turner just massacred it. It was like his own personal bass highlight reel for seven or eight minutes - just groovy and colorful fills all over the place He seems like one of the best bass players going right now.
Stuart Zender created some of the most beautiful bass lines ever on the first three Jamiroquai albums. It is almost unbelievable that he recorded his first professional album when he was only 17/18 years old, and he had only been playing for three years as a self-taught player! It is simply unbelievable that he played so incredibly maturely at such a young age!
I was flying out to the Carribean yesterday and came across this track on the plane entertainment system …I ended up having this on repeat for several hours due to the lyrical bass line. When I get back to the uk will be picking up my bass to study this …absolute masterpiece

Wonder why they swapped it. If Stu wrote the bass line, one would think he would have also played on the album version (he plays on all the other songs). I understand Paul Powell was one of the most renowned bass players in Europe at that time. On his Instagram post, Zender didn’t explain why it happened that way; would be interesting to know.

MASTERPIECE of a track. You’re right to pick up on the hi-hats locking in with the bass rhythms, and the nuances of Stuart’s playing, but what really makes this song masterful for me is the harmony. Toby Smith was without a doubt THE most underrated keys player of the 90s. R.I.P.

Reaction videos aren't my thing, but i see the point now. It's a chance to show your favorite shit to someone who will love it as much as you do. What we are hearing here is a musician (Paul powell) stepping into a recording session as a fill in, on a tune he would receive no credit for, and creating a masterpiece. He was hearing infinite possibilities and was able to execute them with such precision and taste. I will also say, as a drummer, that this song is a primer for grooving and filling around an anticipated off beat (the AH 2 and 4). You will be blown away by their creativity from this era, especially the bass playing and keyboards (with the didgeridoo occasionally thrown in) They were on fire in 1995 when touring this album too. Bear in mind how young they were at this time as well. The later releases with the new band members are good, but the first three albums are classics. Agree. They should have kept Zender and they would’ve maintained their signature jazz sound. Stuart was influenced by the greats (Mingus, Jaco, etc.) and developed his own unique style. Such a loss for Jamiroquai.
Hate to break it to you, but Stuart Zender didn’t record the album version. I would highly recommend the 10:12 extended version of “Too Young To Die” on the Emergency on Planet Earth album. You’ll need at least 8 hours to break that one down! Much appreciate your thoroughness and attention to detail. Here’s the link:

Hey very good reaction and analisys, enjoyed it. You should react to Andrew Gouche s playthrough of Chaka Khan s songs especially the second part of the video with Ain t nobody cause there are very tasty and funky bass line I think . Love and greetings from France 🔥
It’s Stuart Zender- he was genius level on those earlier tunes.
Nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
Stuart zender isn’t playing on this I think it’s Andrew Levy
paul powell.
Do more
Here you go, Stu Zender on the bass for the ‘Stoned Again’ version which wasn’t obviously used on the album . Great album artwork as well ruclips.net/video/WN0Ug27cIXI/видео.html 🔥🔥
Jamiroquai: Time won't wait for you (Dynamite Album) ;-)
Filthy bass face 😄 I haven't listened to Jamiroquai since the 90's but always loved the bass playing in his music, great video 👍 You should react to some old Incubus, the Fungus Amongus album was funky as hell.
Dang, I keep forgetting about Incubus, as much as I love the 1-2 albums I've heard. What do you recommend? Gimme their best one to do on here and I'll add to my list!
And finally people are starting to catch up on the genius and how they redefined this genre and I state again the 1st 3 albums is jamiroquai like the star wars trilogy after that it’s you now
Dynamite is also another great album.
You really need to do a re-reaction to the version with Stuart Zender playing the bass, that's the only version I listened to. Stuart does these little funky licks and variations and his timing is what really MAKES this song groove like a mofo. ruclips.net/video/OPkjnRIdQXQ/видео.html&ab_channel=JamiroquaiVEVO
Here’s the full version aka the ‘stoned again’ mix ruclips.net/video/xGoNOFHBzz0/видео.htmlsi=4dg08TIaf45-JVZt
Great to know! I'll check it out!
@@LowEndUniversity as a musician yourself, then you would appreciate live performances
Imo this version of Sapce Cowboy from 1997 is perfection ruclips.net/video/-pvFcvzgWPA/видео.htmlsi=GR9q91w0MVqY7Vdu
This all album is Stuart Zender.
Not this recording.
Hey Mark!
Oh hi Mark
Hey!!
Poignant commentary at 1:51 seeing as the lyrics are inspired by Jay Kay’s love of marijuana 😃
Look man, the first three albums is the real Jamiroquai, the one and only Jamiroquai so get it right after that it genericuai
Let's hear some JPJ and Led Zeppelin analysis!
Soon! But, any suggestions? I’m thinking “The Lemon Song” maybe! I’m not super familiar with it so it’d be fun to revisit!
@@LowEndUniversity The Lemon Song would be awesome but so is Immigrant Song, Ramble On and perhaps my favorite bass line of all: Achilles Last Stand. Listen to all 4 and decide. You're in for a treat!
I think the story was that Stuart had to leave town for a family matter so MrX filled in for the recording. But the single was Suart's work, which I always felt was much better. No disrecepct to MrX
Why the hell you are having a Peace of wood in your Hand whilst hearing🤨... I know exactly, Frustration playing along with🤘.. I prefer just to dance
Jamiroquai without SZ……..Shxt……
You really want the radio version. The bass line is way better. That is indeed Zender.
That ain't no synth good sir, that's a Rhodes..
Noted!
@@LowEndUniversitydon't note that lol, there's synth all over this track...
