I had the privilege to have met JK just after he filmed this video. He and the drummer had booked a suite in a very posh hotel I worked in whilst I was in the Cotswolds, UK. The floor was stable, it was the walls that were moving around, and he was dancing around it. Really nice guy, very chatty, and friendly with the staff. Nothing but respect for him.

There is a music CD series called Late Night Tales where artists list their favourite and most influential songs that have inspired them. Jamiroquai's is FULL of funk from the 70s, it's extremely clear where Jay got his inspiration from
@@thisisitreactions try: Too Young to Die (anti war song) When you gonna Learn (all about the destruction of the environment) & Scam (anti government and corporate corruption theme) All written pre 1994, still lyrically relevant with their ‘message’ and all with a killer bass line 🙌🏽
Saw them live several times back in the 90’s and it was such a party. The band was fire (shout out to Stewart Zender one of the funkiest bassists on the planet) and Jay Kay was legendary. Such a great time to be into live music - we were enjoying every second of the show not trying to figure out what to post to insta 😂
That smile at the end was PERFECT 😁. Lyrically, he's always been socially aware. I knew the song way before the video came out. By the time this album came out, the group was in full stride commercially. Jamiroquai was everywhere. He went from the Bull Horns hat on Emergency on Planet Earth, to all kinds of Designer BIG HATS thru Traveling Without Moving.
Sometimes I forget about perfect contemporary works of art like this song. Very pleasant to hear, see and feel. This is an example of the finest work of art. The lyrics of the song are interesting, intelligent, the sound is fantastic and the images complete the picture. It is impossible not to recognize the quality. Thank you for sharing your opinions and feelings about this song with us.
Olli you were jamming!!!! Nice to see you enjoying. "Get off my lawn, yelling at the clouds" Best summary 😅 Jamiroquai is still going strong. They were so ahead of their time, especially with this song. Last I checked, they weren't touring or promoting much outside of their local area. Would love the chance to catch them in the USA though, bucketlist goal.
Thankyou for reacting to a song where you allowed the whole song to play before your reaction as opposed to stopping every 20secs to inform us of your views and opinions
Well said. Nothing worse than reactors who constantly keep stopping the video they are reacting to. Wait until something is finished and then give a reaction.
I love the fact in this video the Floor doesn't move one bit, it's the walls that are moving, but done to such an effect it makes it as though the floor is moving.
This song is still such a great vibe, and the video was such a visual for that time... still is. Those hats tho...they became very popular at the time, but not many people (including myself...how could I not at least try one on? 😂) could pull them off the way Jamiroquai did. So glad you revisited this one! And with Olli being harder to please, seeing him really enjoy this song, or any song, is always a pleasure. Much love from Oregon! ❤
I've only recently discovered your channel, but I love the videos I've seen, I'm a child of the 80's and it's great seeing some of these music videos again 😁

I'm not a music video fan, I'm a music fan. But this video is the exception. If I understand correctly, the moving floor was created by literally pushing the studio room, giving the elusion of a moving floor. The song itself is genius.
Mm, there are many excellent music videos that enhance the song. That said, there are some that are just completely detrimental to the song. The official music video for Yes's "Owner of a Lonely Heart" springs to mind...
we need more jamiroquai reactions! they've got too many incredible funky hits for people to only acknowledge virtual insanity! and they sound incredible live especially in their early days with stuart zender on bass 🔥 if you get a chance and want more of them check out 'space cowboy' or 'scam' live 1995 in japan there's so much more greatness to experience
What a classic!!!si fortunate to have seen this band live in Cape Town in 2003 & I'll never forget that Brilliant live performance. Corners of the earth & Black Crow are 2 of the most beautiful musical ballads of our time!!
This is a great song and I've loved it since the day I've heard it. You need to listen to the actual extended version because they cut a chunk out of this song that is just funky and jazzy and beautiful. The video still is awesome.
Oh the whole album this is from is stellar. I love it. There's a 'the making of' video here on RUclips showing how they did this. It's super interesting (spoiler: the only thing that does not move is the floor).

They had a GIGANTIC warehouse with a real smooth floor And the team constructed a room on wheels, made out of Plywood panels on a set of 360*wheels and a fixation bar for the camera to pan up & down. The seats and couch where stuck to the walls and had a release mechnism so that they could be released and give the illusion of "moving". They had like 12 guys outside moving the room around in the warehouse with Jay dancing and prancing and did it almost all in one take. If you look at the walls and not Jay, then you'll notice that the thing kinda wobbles.
There's a famous story of when their first album came out, everyone was asking who the Black lady doing the vocals was; they refused to believe this weedy looking white boy was the singer. But Jay was brought up listening to funk and jazz by his mum, so those are the vocal styles he learnt from and copied.
Saw Jay many years ago up in Ullapool in the highlands of Scotland, he has a house up there and drives his super cars on the quiet isolated roads, was slightly awestruck as he was on his own in the pub
Been a fan of Jamiroquai since ‘96 with this release…loved going to Tower Records looking for any import albums of theirs. Hopefully soon the new album comes out soon. It’s been about 7 years since Automaton.
Jamiroquai performed this song at an awards show and danced on conveyor belts in the stage. Chris Rock was hosting and said if Jamiroquai was full black, he wouldn't have needed the conveyor belts.
This song is such a classic acid jazz 90s hit.I was eight when this came out in 1997 and it was playing on the radio all of the time when I used to live in London.
The best part is that it was almost all practical effects. He danced while they moved the room around him on wheels.
Yeah, I saw a documentary on the making of the video, it was crazy, and the results speak for themselves.
A great PHYSICS lesson ... on "relative" and "absolute" coordinate systems.
... and the music is brilliant too.

Virtual insanity: predicting the 2010's/2020's in 1997.
Eh?
Nailed it.
Their entire discography is fire 🔥
The lyrics are serious.
But they seem to go over many peoples heads.
This song lyrically is ahead of it's time.
Jamiroquai has lots of great songs and albums. Funky group

Seen jamiroquai live few years back, and they are amazing live, Jay kay still has such a smooth voice, so many hits from them.
What an apt song for the times we’re in.
