I'll have to go back and check, but I think I stayed at a hostel in Changchun, where they used modules that felt like a coffin. The high end modules aren't bad. They'll have a/c or fans, lights and more
Smart lad! I'm not sure about the pedestrian street being the first, could be... but you're right, the Japanese were responsible for a lot of the city design and construction. Perhaps one of these days I'll make a video showing the remnants and influence of the Japanese here.
I lived in Changchun for two years. Life is very calm compared to other chinese cities. There are lots of parks. I think quality of life is pretty good. Prices are also relatively cheaper. It's usually full of college students because of so many universities over there. The weather is ok for most of the year, except for maybe early spring, which is very dry and windy. The problem is, salaries are low, and work expectations are not very promising.
@@hpatdh077 Thank you. I appreciate the information. It looks like a nice city, but I did choose a different location because it seemed too cold as well.
There used to be a large expat community in Changchun, but it's largely gone now. That being said, there are still a few expats around that you might bump into. There is a sizeable German community in Changchun due to the Volkswagon plant there. Expats are treated, in general, kindly in Changchun. That being said, all across China there is a growing nationalism and a growing hostility toward 'foreigners'. But just for normal day to day stuff, the people are still really nice, in general.
Ohhh how interesting! Must have felt kind of interesting see it on RUclips! I'll be back to Changchun soon and make another video - I need to show it in the winter! :)
While I was editing the video I realized that... I should have just shown the damn bag. LOL It's pretty slick. I'm happy with my purchase, though I should have bargained a little harder. Just too lazy to do it.
It might have been one of the bleakest, unappealing and dirty cities we've been to, in China - but there is a certain 'farmer-friendly' quality that's a good thing, they are more down-to-earth types than your Beijings or Shanghais It's not a great place for a vacation and it gets pretty darn cold up there.
I've been to Changchun six times already. It's a huge, amazing city. The people are so kind and the food is incredible!
Thanks for dropping by, Flash!
Cool! I lived in Changchun 15 years ago but haven’t seen it since! Thanks for the upload!
Ohhh, nice! 15 years in Changchun - gee whiz, you must know that city like the back of your hand!
@@chopsticksandtrains haha, sorry, only one year, but 15 years ago! Yes, it was very cold! 😊
Ooh new channel name. Time to live vicariously!
Yes sir! Let's go! Lots of trips coming up! Now that zero-covid is over it's time to rock n' roll!

Roughly when did you visit Changchun?
From Malaysia. Been here in 2001. Tour to Harbin.
I forget the details now, but isn't this the first pedestrian street in China (built by the Japanese when they occupied Dongbei)?

That makes a lot of sense for you to do and gives you a chance to practice your Japanese
@@GeminiOneFive Ohhh man, my Japanese is awful nowadays... Such a shame. All those hours I put in studying. :(

The McDonald’s show up at the beginning of video, which is already there for over 20years. I miss my hometown.
Thanks for watching/commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
I just went to changchun for an exam in may 5th, seeing that exact same place at the train station gave me a sense of deja vu wow😂
Haha, nice! Glad you found the vid!
I've offered a teaching placement at Jilin International Studies University. I'm curious what's life like to live there, work expectations, and etc.?
That's hard to answer in a comment! It has its ups and downs.
