  • Abba and I ran into William from France while we were visiting Prague. William has been traveling for five months with no money. He hitchhikes and talks to locals who help find him places to stay and food to eat. Having no plans myself for a couple weeks, I decide to spend a few days with him and learn his ways. This is day one.
I would have been skeptical of someone who travels with no money before I met William; that it might be taking advantage of others' hospitality. It's important to point out that we never asked for help from anyone directly. We offered William a place to stay for two nights, and food to eat, and he never asked for it. We gave it to him willingly. Similarly, the people that helped us along this journey gave willingly, with happiness and excitement. On two different occasions we were thanked by a stranger for the opportunity to help someone. It totally changed my perspective on generosity. It makes me want to offer hospitality to others when I get back home.
