Thanks Dave, Ive grown them in both "high and low" tech both with pretty good results. Definitely doesn't need much CO2 from the water column... Check out this paper in regards to CO2 uptake form the substrate, I think you'll be interested: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2707917/
DIY AQUAPROS How does the CO2 get in the substrate? Does one substrate do better than another to produce CO2, like maybe organic potting soil because of the high organic matter that rots? Thanks!

Joni Solis It looks like some plants are better at utilizing it than others. Just like some plants are better at utilizing bicarbonates than others. This is why we call them "hardy plants" and can be grown in low tech. Also, too much light on high chlorophyll plants can cause them to reduce chlorophyll production and photosynthesis, so dark green shade loving plants will grow more quickly in low light. They will spread out more, such as Anubias for example, than they will in higher light. I have noticed this in my own tanks. Anubias and riccardia right under the light will not spread as much and don't grow very fast. Here is a study that Tropica did and shows similar results using Riccia. www.bio-web.dk/ole_pedersen/pdf/hydrobiologia_2202_477_163.pdf
I have this plant in my walstad bowl and it's growing like crazy. It also produced these long and thin leaves, maybe 4x the length of their normal leaves... quite odd but still fascinating lol 🤷♂️
This plant grows like weeds for me. Grew in super thick. After it covered everything, it only then started to grow tall. Not sure which of the two species I have. I wish there was an easy way to tell.
Hey thanks bud! Ya sag is the best, I literally started up with this plant again like a year ago, Just one has turned into a few hundred, cant wait to tear down my 55 for a 90 setup and harvest them all out!!!!
Contrary to what is claimed here I find many experts saying that If you want to keep this plant as a short and dense carpet, you place it in the foreground of the tank and provide LOW lighting to INHIBIT growth and Dwarf Sagittaria can be placed in the background of a well-lit aquarium, as STRONG light will help it grow HIGHER.
My dwarf sag is growing pretty big, but I always get some leaves that are turning yellow and dying off. Every week I have to cut the dying leaves off. I have flourish root tabs in my gravel and I'm dosing flourish excel everyday. I am also using the LED Deckey light for 7 hours a day. Do you have any tips on how to stop my dwarf sag from dying?
Since I live in Taos, NM I am very far away from any fish stores...how can I best get me some of this dwarf sag for my little tank? Are there online stores you would recommend? I also want a little java moss and fern...all these three plants would be for my little 2.6 gallon Fluval Spec tank. Would the broad leaf sag get too big for the little tank I just mentioned?
can u add dwarf sag to a salad ive been eating it now for about 3 weeks and noticed my weight has been ballooning like the poison of an overstocked fish tank
i have a garden soil aquarium. i have planted 24 subulatas at the front. I provide plenty of light but no co2. how fast can I expect to get a carpet? I have them for 7days now. I haven't seen any runner but the leaves have grown.
My sag dwarf doesn’t look like its growing☹️ i planted them separate apart so that they create carpet but no luck and its been about 3 weeks. A lot of the blades of grass have begun turning pale or translucent. I have gravel as a substrate and I dose tank with liquid fertilizer (Easy Green).
U need to do a video on how to prevwnt scratching aquarium glass and acrylic my tank I want go keep scratch free but got quite a few scratches already and my tank wasnt cheap £800 and I have to use algae magnet but I put polyfilter floss on it but nothing seems to stop it scratching got a few big ones and rest are very small but lots need to see close up to see the small ones but I hate it
ok so mine was doing great and it was big and sending off runners like crazy and it was like that for months but then one day it stopped and now its starting to look not so good. any suggestions? weekly water changes and ferts.
Hey man, just bought dwarf sag because of your videos. When they arrived one of them was healthy, and the other two the leaves looked dark green and wilted, but the roots still looked good. Will they regrow or should I just toss them??
I got a plant labeled as dwarf Sag at my local pet store but it doesn't look like the dwarf Sag in the video. It gets thicker on the end of the leaf, sorta like Amazon swords
Is pothos devils ive safe to put in aquarium with goldfish or will it poison them want to ask the expert before adding plant want to use it to eat nitrates and to make it as a cool background got juwel tank
You can, however im currently working on an experiment video regarding this and have found the roots decay initially, generating some ammonia in the water column. You should be fine if you have a filtration system set up, but if not, I would keep the plant in a bowl of water for a week or so to let the roots adapt.
I'm starting a planted tank and want to use Glossostigma for the carpet. The only issue is I am not really wanting to supplement CO2. Should I use Dwarf Sag instead or will Glosso work without CO2? Just looking for a more shallow carpet.
I'm having trouble with this plant now. It's dying. One day it's fine, I sleep, I come back and half it's leaves are dead and it turned brown. I have CO2, I add Fe daily and I have no fish that eats plants. The ph is stable at 6,2, KH 1,5°, I don't know my DH. Any thoughts?
Strange to hear it's appearance is changing so fast...Your KH is low but I wouldnt suspect that to be the issue here since you provide CO2. Brown/dying leaves could indicate a potassium and or zinc deficiency, If you are truly concerned, you could try dosing K as a start. I typically dont experience any "melt" with Dwarf sag when I move it from tank to tank but this could also be an explanation if you just purchased it.
I had these plants in gravel a few years ago. I didn't dose with any fertilizer and they grew quite a bit. I've bought some more and ive planted them in sand. not sure how it will grow but im going to be adding co2 this time
Help my anachirus is mwlting I put it in my goldfish tank with another plant cabomba and the anachirus has staeted to melt I want it to grow not die but dont want to havd to buy chemicals for it.the cabomba was in the same tank and the anachiris and the cabomba is fine. Please help
+PajamaPantsMan I just found out i can't have it in California. Due to it being an invasive species... oh well any body know of any other easy growing fore ground plant that i can plant without using Co2
+Michael Wells ya, I've looked on ebay, people would not ship to California still. I got crept parka instead. it's working out so far and it's growing fairly decent so I'm happy :)
Classics plant. Mine are growing well in the low tech. Dosing no ferts or Excel. Great review man. Very thorough.

+Joni Solis CO2 needs to get to the leafs not to the substrate

My dwarf sag grows like a weed in my tank. Very good review Mike
Hey thanks bud! Ya sag is the best, I literally started up with this plant again like a year ago, Just one has turned into a few hundred, cant wait to tear down my 55 for a 90 setup and harvest them all out!!!!
Excellent report on these plants. You really helped me a lot. Thanks!
Hi Mike. Just found your channel and it looks right up my street ! Cant wait to be getting your uploads in future ! :)
Hey! Glad to hear it! Expect a fish profile video tonight, thanks again!

So I just planted dwarf sagittaria hopefully it will grow
John Albernaz how is it doing rn
Were trying to grow out sagittaria natans grass but dont seem to have the luck might change my subtrate.
I really like the look of the substrate shown in the foreground at :40...
Could you tell me what type it is? I'd appreciate it.

Lack of Potassium
Should you use root tabs with this? I've had some in my tanks for a couple months and haven't seen much growth at all...

So to quote a well used word in the hobby. 'Are you an omnivore?...' You like a lil salad once in a while.
i have a garden soil aquarium. i have planted 24 subulatas at the front. I provide plenty of light but no co2. how fast can I expect to get a carpet? I have them for 7days now. I haven't seen any runner but the leaves have grown.
Fun how you're picking all the plants I have hehe
Im picking all the plants I have!!!! Sounds like we may have some similar tanks! hahah

I’ve had mine for around 2 weeks and have 6 runners already
I planted mine last week, how long before i can trim some leaves?
I got a plant labeled as dwarf Sag at my local pet store but it doesn't look like the dwarf Sag in the video. It gets thicker on the end of the leaf, sorta like Amazon swords
I am bored same
Narrow leaf chain sword?

DIY AQUAPROS thanks and will definitely try

Glosso can be grown without added CO2 but it will always grow better with it!!!
Will they grow in sand that's full of ferts? I was told that sand is packed so dense that the roots have a hard time move.
can I grow dwarf sag in 7.7 gallon 11inch in height tank with 5W 435 lumens Led light
So when people wear they're pants low to they're knees it's called sage or sag.
I have a gravel (small) will the plant still spread like yours
No
I'm having trouble with this plant now. It's dying.

I manged to increase ph to 6.6 and still keep the CO2 levels at > 15ppm, we'll see if the plants get better.
Thanks for the reply.
Anytime, let me know how things play out.
can you trim this plant if it grows to tall for liking?
will this stuff grow in just gravel without co2 or anything????????????
There's not that many plants that will grow in those conditions. Carpeting plants are especially hard.
I had these plants in gravel a few years ago. I didn't dose with any fertilizer and they grew quite a bit. I've bought some more and ive planted them in sand. not sure how it will grow but im going to be adding co2 this time
can you plant these too deeply or naw?
what can you do if it grows too fast? It is hard to pull out because my tank is dirted...
+Patrick Ang Just have to pull it out, no other really effective way :/
Does this plants required soil
Chaitanya Varma no it requires concrete.
does in carpet completely on it own?
can i glue them onto driftwood?
no its a root feeder
Help my anachirus is mwlting I put it in my goldfish tank with another plant cabomba and the anachirus has staeted to melt I want it to grow not die but dont want to havd to buy chemicals for it.the cabomba was in the same tank and the anachiris and the cabomba is fine. Please help
How deep you plant this plant? thanks!!
Just so that the roots are in the subsrate, make sure the rozet is above the substrate
Can you plants these dwarf sags on plain sand substrate with flourish excel or something as the nutrient source?
Who can tell me if this plant can surviver under the ice in a pond
It can!
with they be ok in a discus tank?
alex artea Totally!
I can't find this plant anywhere around me
+PajamaPantsMan I just found out i can't have it in California. Due to it being an invasive species... oh well any body know of any other easy growing fore ground plant that i can plant without using Co2

PajamaPantsMan have you tried Jacobs aquarium? he is in corona CA. I just bought a few sag form him had it shipped to Tennessee.
PajamaPantsMan really ? They might of just changed it because I just purchased some at Petco ..
Nice
Grows well, but when replanted it pretty much just dies
Yep. That's my situation rn
This plant died in my tank.
Ph way too high?
