    I did see a little bit of Rasmus Dahlin during the season, and I have to say he truly looks like a franchise D-man for the next decade and a half. To think he did all of this at just 18, having just turned 19; he is only going to get better as he adjusts to the grind of the NHL schedule. And who knows, maybe a Norris or two coming his way when he hits his prime?

    Dahlin is a special talent. His underlying numbers: 51.86CF%, +3.01 RelCF%, 50.5xGF%, +4.14 RelxGF%. Those are excellent numbers for any player let alone an 18 year old defenseman.

    • @marcuswolin4454
      @marcuswolin4454 5 лет назад

      To add on, I think Dahlin and Pilut were the only 2 of their 8 or 9 defensemen that regularly played in the NHL lineup that had over 50 CF% (and Pilut had to be sent down to fit all 1-way contracts on the team). Dahlin basically kept the team afloat alone on the backend.
      To top this off, he didnt get powerplay time in the early season because Ristolainen - for all his flaws - is a good player on the PP. Midway through the season he forced the Sabres to play with 2D because he was just so good, and by the end of the year he was playing alone on the top PP. If he plays from the start on the top unit with Eichel, Skinner, Reinhart, he should get a huge boost in points.

      As someone who painfully watched the sabres play like usual, there were a few bad games from him, but he was only 18. Sometimes he made some rookie mistakes, but he was 18. He tried some dangling at least once per game and while none lead to goals, he could be on the highlight reel next season. And even when he does make a huge mistake, it’s ok because mcdavid misses an empty net.

    Zach Werenski had very similar, and slightly better stats in the first year after he was drafted in 16-17. He finished third in Calder voting to Laine and Matthews. Dahlin's one year younger, and didn't have a dman like Jones to partner with. Z didn't get a whole lot of recognition either (if we're saying being third in Calder voting isn't being talked about much) as compared to the other two nominations. I am a Sabres fan dating back to Grant Fuhr to watch this kid skate at his age he is Jordanesque. He definitely made his share of mistakes last season to ,I'm hoping this 19-20 season he gains more confidence once he masters that he may be the next best defenseman of all time the kid can stick handle skate pass,great shot which will improve as he gets stronger ,I feel lucky to be a Sabres fan we have a good looking future

    The reason this 18 year old thing is crazy is because defensemen take until their 25 before you really see them take shape look at Herman, this is a quote from pronged by the way what I wrote above. Dahlin was 18! Lol and passed Bobby Orr for second all time as 18 yr old dmen.

  • @RedRisotto
    @RedRisotto 5 лет назад +3

    It's tough for a rookie D to do what Dahlin did... It's also tough for a rookie C to drag a whole under-staffed franchise along for most of the season - it has to be Pettersson because he himself was the main catalyst for most of his points and play.

    Dahlin is amazing obviously. I think rookies in small markets are actually better off most times. There isn't a rabid fanbase/media to scrutinize and analyze every mistake. There are benefits to both I guess

    those years without any crowds, everyone was wearing masks, it wasn't a proper NHL season. but it figured his game out and is better for it today.

    You always say buffalo is a small market or not much exposure... Buffalo was the #1 rated team in the NHL for ratings a few times.
    For the third time in four years, the Buffalo Sabres are back on top of the NHL’s local TV ratings chart. Despite missing the playoffs for the eighth straight season, the Sabres posted an astounding 75 percent ratings increase on MSG to finish with an 8.13 average.
    The Sabres’ mark easily outdistanced Penguins games on AT&T Pittsburgh, which averaged a 6.38 rating, up 10 percent from last season. The Sabres and Penguins have posted the two biggest local ratings in each of the past 10 years. The Penguins’ local TV ratings have been tops for seven of those years.

    This is why dahlin is a much player than miro. He doesn’t have nearly the same support and easily produces more.Miro is a good player but he’s not generational like dahlin. He was picked 3rd overall instead of 1st for a reason.

      Miro played with Roman Polak 😂. Stars have used 14 different defenseman this year. Klingberg and Lindell are good but they aren’t elite. Heiskanen playing top minutes 5v5 on a playoff team is more impressive. Heiskanen has more pressure on him and is being relied on in the playoffs and has delivered so far and he’s only 9months younger than Dahlin.

      Blasto Manto saying klingberg isn’t elite shows your idiocy. Miro is not playing other teams top line. He is playing easier opponents while he’s on one of the best defensive teams in the league.

    I love Dahlin as a player and hated him when he was 17 playing for Frölunda here in Sweden because as a 17 year old he had a big impact on the ice for his team in anotherwise great team as well (they are in the finals in SHL playoffs this year). However! I still think Elias Pettersson deserves the Calder more. Yes he's a year older but he also carried an otherwise crap team on his shoulders and is going to be a nucks franchise player. Just my two cents. Not to mention EP carried Växjö to the SM playoffs win here before he went to Vancouver, Dahlin didn't do that. It's not always good to come over as a younger player because you'll be under the shadow of older rookie players who are simply further in their development. EP deserves the Calder but Dahlin is definitely runner up in my opinion.

    • @zilvertron
      @zilvertron 5 лет назад

      Växjö was great without him too, especially thanks to Rose'n. Only reason hes got SHL records is because he played in a team that had other older and better players than him. But he did good with Timrå the year before, thats why media bothered to report about him

    I don't think it is fair to compare Heiskanens and Dahlins PP points because Klingberg usually is the only defenseman on the PP for Dallas. While Dahlin played on every PP no wonder he put up more points.
