- A lot of you have been asking my opinion about the new collector dolls, and I see so many opinions in the comments under the new released pictures on Instagram. Spur of the moment, I decided to make this video because I had some thoughts I wanted to talk about.

Love the low key vibe for this video. So many good points, I am a Disney enjoyer casually but it’s nice to see someone who knows more than I do talk about their opinions on these dolls. Disney has really never been very affordable if you ask me. I think for their doll brands they are going for the exclusivity factor hence the price. I also think this is why they make the play line dolls so affordable. I totally agree that I wish they would tell us what’s going on behind the scenes so we could know where their budget is going and what their process is. I’m looking forward to your review of Alice!!
Definitely! If we could understand the price better, I feel like there wouldn't be such backlash in response to the release.
Cost vs value is such an interesting topic! I feel like collectors evaluate that subconsciously in their head without even realizing it.
I agree. I think my issue is how some collectors choose to express how they feel about it; some people can get so negative and heated about it... For me, I'm just like "if you don't like it, don't buy it".
You have valid points. Pls do more reviews of dolls and i know all of us would love a tour of your collection. Enjoyable video.
I think the dolls are really pretty, but for that price point I want better articulation and especially better fabric and a floor length ballgown skirt. I think that the dress is the biggest factor for me in deciding whether or not it is worth the $55 and in this case it looks like a very simple playline design with cheaper fabrics and less detail. I really don't like the unfinished edges of the fabric either. I will pass on these dolls, even though they have really pretty face sculpts and saran hair. I think they should be priced at $20-$25. I forgot to mention that they need fabric elbow length gloves. I like this impromptu style video.
I agree. I might be willing to look past the articulation IF the dress was a lot better. I will say that I think this is the MOST movie accurate Cinderella doll I've seen in a while, and I'm surprised by that (for the face, and even the hair color). I would be willing to pay $36 at most for this doll or the Tiana, but I just don't feel the $50 matches the product.

Totally agree on all the points you made. I'll wait until they go on clearance, but I agree Alice was definitely worth it! Nuggies! I want some now! Like the off the cuff video during lunch break! We need our Chad Marvelous videos whenever we can get them!! 😊

I generally lurk rather than comment, but wow Chad this is why I've stayed subbed to you when I've unsubbed from so many other doll youtubers recently! The sheer fact that you know and discuss cost vs value, I think this is somehow an unknown concept in the doll space, but also that you keep a level and calm head about it. You haven't flew into a fury about Mattel (or any company), nor acted like Mattel personally came to your house and stole all your belongings. This didn't devolve into tribalism over companies, extreme negativity or gossiping, and was a nice plain discussion on the context of pricing and your personal decision on the new dolls. It's so refreshing to hear someone just talk about it normally, in a normal appropriate way for a hobby that is ultimately... just plastic toys made by corporations!
There's plenty to criticize about all the price points and all that, and this is how it's done.
And also ultimately, I agree. What I'm seeing from Mattel isn't matching up with my personal perception of value, I don't feel like my money is getting me what I want with their offerings now (especially with the large price increases. You should see what Mattel are pulling in the European market in terms of price increases.). So... I'm simply going to pass!

I think dolltubers are just really passionate about their hobby. That being said, I agree, some people tend to act like Mattel or MGA targeted them and did them wrong on purpose somehow. Really, it's just business. It also makes me think that some people make a bigger deal about it for views/attention. I'm not going to name names, because I do not fault them, or criticize them for it, it's just the impression I get sometimes.
I just received a notice that my Alice doll has shipped! I can't wait to get her.

I think something that could help the doll market could be some battery operated dolls by that I mean like a doll that moves or like an Ariel doll that swims or dolls that sing something with a mechanical part wouls help
They have made dolls like this before. I don't think they sell that well because they don't make them too often, and when they do make them, they are available for a while and eventually get marked down.
I probably wouldn’t buy them because I’ve just never been into Disney. If they were Marvel characters, maybe. But in that case they’d HAVE to be fully articulated for me to want to buy them.

i dont think i will rush out to buy,which is a shame but who knows i may change my mind once they start filtering through,never say never.my personal opinion is that sometimes the line between play doll and collectors doll gets blurry x
That is true. And I may change my mind as well once these dolls come out. I may see someone else's review and decide to get one after all, cuz like I said in the video; I do really like the dolls, I just have to decide at what point is the product no longer worth the price to me?
tbh the dolls look on par with the holiday barbies quality wise. so lets say they cost the same to produce as those, add the disney license, u get the $50 price point. if u look at it like that, its not such a crazy price imo. i wont pay it personally,but i can see why theyre the price they are. you made a lot of great points in ur video and its refreshing to see bcause a lot of newer collectors just dont think about these kind of things whenever a new doll releases. they complain for the sake of complaining which is counterproductive imo. great video!

Mattel Disney Princess Mulan Armor.
When are they going to do a doll of the blue fairy from Pinocchio. I know they did a limited one, but i don't want to pay $500. I buy my dolls, especially Mattel, on clearance because their prices are too high.
Not sure how likely the Blue Fairy is to get a regular release for a doll. I think they are more likely to do characters with more screen time like Kida from Atlantis, or Jane from Tarzan.

Also, these dolls are pretty closed to Diseny's store Holiday dolls which to me seem more detailed. I would rather get Tiana Holiday 2024 tahn mattels Tiana, like she's prettier, more details, better quality

Hahaha. Yes, there is an 8 pack including Alice. I plan on getting it. The other characters included all have fabric clothes instead of molded on tops, so I'm excited
Someone might already have said. I would like a Fashionista with out the printed fabrics, with decent hair and a made to move body that costs $17-$25. Why can't we have this? Considering The Barbie Looks, Extra and Yoga/Sports Dolls we already have.
If they did that they would simply do it under a different line other than fashionistas. Fashionistas is intended to be a budget-friendly line of Barbies, and that's why the price is lower and the quality is lower.

These dolls are pretty. The lack of articulation bothers me. Also, I want the clothing quality on more expensive dolls to be a step above. That is what would keep me from buying these dolls at that price point. I agree that I would like to understand how prices are decided.

The dolls are nice, but I personally don't buy unarticulated dolls, I know not everyone cares about articulation, but at that price point ....yikes.
I agree. I know some people really like the Model Muse for example, but I like my dolls to be more poseable for sure.
