Just finished replacing a bulged battery. Thanks for pointing the weak sd slot, you saved me some tears. I found that using the card to pull the bottom shell away from the edge popped it open easier. The plastic felt less likely to break that way. Prying upward with the card made me feel like I was going to break one if the plastic clasps, which I've done before on a netbook.

I would open it up, and use compressed air to blow the dust out of the fans. If you really want to improve thermals, look up how to under volt your CPU and GPU, and consider re-applying the thermal paste.

Hi, I just replaced the RAM and the fans on my omen ax-00 notebook. What I noticed, putting again the rear panel and snapping it along all the borders, is that in the middle was a little convex, I just pressed a bit also there, and then another snap. Most of the guides I found nobody tells about it, so don't forget to check also the middle of the rear panel :)
Haha glad my mishap has helped others not make the same mistake I made lol. Although the damage is so minor that i don't notice it, and to be honest you'd have to really be looking for it to see it.
Yeah but I did manage to break the audio jack cover on my t420 and it grinds me every time I use the laptop. :P I must say taking the back panel off was confusing since i had all the screws out but the middlepart had some clips that wouldn't want to come off and I feared that the panel would break with the force I was putting on it :D
Yeah for me its annoying that I broke it but thankfully I dont think about it too much as its not something thats noticable. But yeah getting the bottom off this machine is much harder than it needed to be, although its nice to know that if you remove all the screws and lost them the bottom would stay attached quite firmly, whereas my MacBook Pro which is actively trying to loose screws (2 missing including one that was replace by Apple) if it lost the screws the whole bottom just drops off.
Ahh yes but its so much easier now, I have to update my reinstall video as since the creators update Windows installs every driver by itself with no need for HP Help & Support and Intel Driver Utility. Literally use media creation tool to create a usb with Windows creators update, install and connect to wifi when it comes back up and wait Windows update then downloads everything you need including the HP accelerometer drive guard and the Bang and Olufsen stuff too.
I know this is real late but only the integrated gpu can be upgraded, the dedicated gpu can't. Well it theoretically could, but it's next to impossible. It's equivalent to open heart surgery. Cause the dedicated card is soldered to the motherboard and people have tried to upgrade them and they did NOT get the results they were looking for. A computer genius could do it, but even the average computer expert wouldn't be able to upgrade a dedicated gpu without frying the motherboard

As long as you are careful taking the bottom off you should be ok, hell I ran the Dyson over mine the other day as i was getting thermal throttling it fixed that perfectly.

Michael Nutt yeah I wouldn’t want to replace the keyboard myself, everything will have to come out to get to it I’m afraid. My old PowerBook G3 was one screw and the whole keyboard lifted and you upgraded too down rather than bottom up like modern laptops.
Michael Nutt yeah that’s pretty much the case I’m afraid, I’ve not seen anyway of getting at it from above as the rest of the components are all attached to the top deck of the machine.
I just re-watched this video, to get an idea of what I was gonna be dealing with, externally and internally; I have came to the conclusion that 1TB isn't enough storage, so I just replaced the 1TB harddrive, with a 2TB 7200RPM harddrive. Who knows, in the future I may get a 4TB harddrive, but right now, 2TB is good and I have a good bit left over, like 750GB left over, I have 79 games installed right now and work stuff as well, along with some music and some movies, but most of my movies are on my external 4TB 7200RPM hardrive. I didn't crack anything while removing the back either, which is a plus. Hope you've been doing well.
matt matthew how odd I’m sure I replied to this before but I’m not seeing it, 2TB maybe the maximum HDD you’ll get in the machine as the 3/4TB drives are physically thicker and I’m not sure how much spare space there is in the laptop to accommodate. Your best bet would be 2TB internal and a 4TB USB3 drive as that won’t be much slower than the internal.
The Game Hub no no rattle for me, maybe a slight ticking can be heard when room is silent and fans are at low speed but it’s always been there and never been an issue for me.
hi there is that possible to upgrade the ram to 32 gb because other brands with the same spec and two ram slots are showing that they can upgrade up to 32gb
vineeth v HP officially state max supported is 16GB however the chipset and processor can support 32GB so it could be like my MacBook where “officially” it can only support 8GB but realistically you can shove a full 16GB in it. It would be a risk to go for 32GB in case the bios causes issues. However to be honest unless you are using lots of virtual machines etc the hardware doesn’t really need a full 32GB and 16GB will be more than enough.

I had the battery pop up in the middle somehow tried the card but was disenegrating so use a plastic tool that came with another kit i bought and that sound makes it seems like its breaking everything.also ibought it without charger for around 300 in box but i got a 90w universal charger.itwill charge battery quik but if its running its like its not plugged in.so u need the 150w charger and its 50 buck.i added a sumsung 960 evo for 110.u need the nvme ive paid total 470 total and its very fast like 3 sec load.without m.2 mvme speed is 143mbs on 1tb over 3200mbs on 960 evo
Federico Casco the m.2 slot can accommodate both SATA & NVME drives as far as I’m aware, mine is a SATA but the US models are NVME. Go for what suits you best or cheapest, to be honest even with a lowly SATA SSD this thing still flies so if the NVME is much more expensive stick with the SATA. Obviously it depends on use case but as a boot drive and nothing else SATA will be more than enough.

I have a (broken lcd "1080p" due to quick closing "lid" with high temperature at the numeric keypad). And you mentioned "lcd upgradeable", is this true? Now that I must replace it, maybe upgrade to a high refresh rate? Note: anyone manage to see any BIOS output information thru the HDMI port? It never does. I did manage (blindly because my LCD doesn't show any readable image) to press ESC then F9 and select my USB Win10PE disc (I was intending to backup the whole NVME disc before sending it out for repair) but it doesn't trigger the HDMI output (like the normal Windows 10 boot up - has all video drivers). Do you know any workaround? Thanks in advance.
inky1990 nope the AX series are the 2016/early2017 models that look like mine which means the same opening up as mine. If it looks like mine then it’s the same routine as mine to open, if it looks like a stealth bomber it’s the new type with the easy access panel.

The battery indicator stays orange while charging during sleep,but when I turn it on,the indicator turns white and it shows battery is plugged in not charging and even that goes away after 4 seconds!My charger and adapter work fine!
Stuey3D's Tech,Toys & Gaming That's not it mate!I've gone through some forums in the net and found that many HP laptop owners have faced a similar issue,where the laptop charges only when it is in sleep mode or switched off!One of the members in the forum told me to uninstall the Microsoft battery drivers and update the BIOS!It actually worked and my laptop is now fine!But it has been reported that there might be a chance for this problem to arise again!It's definitely an issue HP has been getting away with!
Ahh not a problem ive encountered as I installed a clean version of windows direct from microsoft a week after I got the machine so I didnt have the tainted drivers.

I am getting confused with which type of RAM to install. The options are: Crucial CT8G4SFS824A 8 GB (DDR4, 2400 MT/s, PC4-19200, SRx8, SODIMM, 260-Pin) Memory ....SINGLE rank and DUAL rank What's the difference between these two "ranks"?
HQ cpus are soldered, so they can't be upgraded without a heatgun and rambo tactics. I replaced a bios chip on an acer v3-571 and that was already horrible so I don't even want to know how replacing the cpu would go. Last series of mobile cpus from intel you could upgrade was haswell. MQ and QM, and if I recall correctly M processors could be upgraded in most systems provided they weren't soldered like for example in the lenovo x210 or x220 laptops. My Acers with 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen i cpus can be upgraded to better cpus on those sockets. So could my old turion x2 Hp laptop and my core 2 duo based HP 6510b. Newer laptops are designed to be bullshi... thinner and have soldered cpus (sometimes RAM and ssds,) to save space.
Can someone give me some advice? I have a Omen 15 2017 model. I spilled some beer on the keyboard in the area of the number keyboard and backspace key. I tried to turn it upside down, unplug it and let it dry out over night. It's been over a week and everything seems to work ok but right side of the keyboard area from the number pad area all the way down to the Intel sticker is FAR hotter to the touch than the left side of the keyboard. Is there anything further that I should do? IDK if it has always been this way or not...any advice is appreciated!
learpic yeah I know the one you mean, I’ve not seen one in person to dismantle it so I can’t help I’m afraid. The only reason I know how to dismantle this one is because I own it and needed to upgrade it. If it’s anything like the Dell 7567 and other similar laptops it should be a simple case of gently pry the bezel off remove 4 screws and the connector at the bottom, however if I recall correctly the 2015 model had a touchscreen too so it might not be that simple.

Great video, I just bought the hp omen 15-ax203na. It has no ssd drive, pretty sure it is the same as your model just without the ssd. Looking to get the Samsung 960 or 961 256gb put in to help with video editing. Will probably upgrade the ram to 16gb now i have seen this video. Look forward to some more vids on this laptop. 👍
MX#133 yeah the 203 is just the John Lewis special of mine, I’m pretty certain it will have an SSD slot but open it up and check if you really wanna 100% sure.
Well its not blown up yet so I imagine its ok. Also MX#133 I'm certain I replied yesterday but its not showing but I'm pretty certain the 203 is the same as my 202 just minus the SSD, I'm pretty certain you'll have the slot ready to take an SSD but if you wanna be 100% sure open it up and check.

You have no idea how useful this video was in 2019 thanks mate these buggers were not made to be open , if I knew this about the omens I would have never touched these Laptops lesson learned p.s I also hairline cracked my USB port nothing really you can do about it prying it open
JustQuestOz it gets easier the more you do it, I’ve opened mine up a few times now to clean the fans as the slightest bit of dust on them makes the temps skyrocket. Mine has loosened up considerably so it’s much easier.

4TB I doubt will fit, they are physically thicker than the 2TB drives. I'm doing OK I had to open the laptop up the other day to hoover it out as it was thermal throttling, looks like the cooling mat blew some shit into the system which clogged it up. Hoovered it out and all is fine now. Undervolted it today dropped the cores by 0.125V and now dropped the temps by 12c so under full load it gets to mid 70's now which is awesome.
Do you know if these laptops use the same motherboard between the 15-ax000na (i3 6100) and the 15-ax206na (i7 7700) ?? I’ve bought a 206na which has a noisy fan on start up and hoping to swap my good fan from the 000na Can anyone answer??
YamiBeats •Whatever I Want• you can’t see it in this video as it’s under the heat pipes but both GPU & CPU are directly under the number pad side of the keyboard as that’s where it gets hottest when gaming.

There are some clips in the middle and I don't think that there's any other way to release them

Also 12mbit connection is a pain when you try to reinstall everything on the ssd and on the hdd that was sanitized from the bloat HP put on it.

I just re-watched this video, to get an idea of what I was gonna be dealing with, externally and internally; I have came to the conclusion that 1TB isn't enough storage, so I just replaced the 1TB harddrive, with a 2TB 7200RPM harddrive. Who knows, in the future I may get a 4TB harddrive, but right now, 2TB is good and I have a good bit left over, like 750GB left over, I have 79 games installed right now and work stuff as well, along with some music and some movies, but most of my movies are on my external 4TB 7200RPM hardrive. I didn't crack anything while removing the back either, which is a plus. Hope you've been doing well.
matt matthew how odd I’m sure I replied to this before but I’m not seeing it, 2TB maybe the maximum HDD you’ll get in the machine as the 3/4TB drives are physically thicker and I’m not sure how much spare space there is in the laptop to accommodate. Your best bet would be 2TB internal and a 4TB USB3 drive as that won’t be much slower than the internal.
i have the early 2017 model does yours have a rattling fan ?
The Game Hub no no rattle for me, maybe a slight ticking can be heard when room is silent and fans are at low speed but it’s always been there and never been an issue for me.
hi there is that possible to upgrade the ram to 32 gb because other brands with the same spec and two ram slots are showing that they can upgrade up to 32gb
vineeth v HP officially state max supported is 16GB however the chipset and processor can support 32GB so it could be like my MacBook where “officially” it can only support 8GB but realistically you can shove a full 16GB in it.
It would be a risk to go for 32GB in case the bios causes issues. However to be honest unless you are using lots of virtual machines etc the hardware doesn’t really need a full 32GB and 16GB will be more than enough.

I had the battery pop up in the middle somehow tried the card but was disenegrating so use a plastic tool that came with another kit i bought and that sound makes it seems like its breaking everything.also ibought it without charger for around 300 in box but i got a 90w universal charger.itwill charge battery quik but if its running its like its not plugged in.so u need the 150w charger and its 50 buck.i added a sumsung 960 evo for 110.u need the nvme ive paid total 470 total and its very fast like 3 sec load.without m.2 mvme speed is 143mbs on 1tb over 3200mbs on 960 evo

Federico Casco the m.2 slot can accommodate both SATA & NVME drives as far as I’m aware, mine is a SATA but the US models are NVME. Go for what suits you best or cheapest, to be honest even with a lowly SATA SSD this thing still flies so if the NVME is much more expensive stick with the SATA.
Obviously it depends on use case but as a boot drive and nothing else SATA will be more than enough.

I'm using the exact same laptop, and I need help regarding the processor of it, cuz I was doing some 3D work on it and suddenly the laptop shuts down by it self, Now when I trying to reopen it, It's not even starting now, theres no light for charging cable, no power button light, Idk what happened but its just dead now, didnt showed any warnings ⚠, and just suddenly shutdown by it self, please help 🙏

Note: anyone manage to see any BIOS output information thru the HDMI port? It never does.
I did manage (blindly because my LCD doesn't show any readable image) to press ESC then F9 and select my USB Win10PE disc (I was intending to backup the whole NVME disc before sending it out for repair) but it doesn't trigger the HDMI output (like the normal Windows 10 boot up - has all video drivers).
Do you know any workaround?

inky1990 nope the AX series are the 2016/early2017 models that look like mine which means the same opening up as mine.
If it looks like mine then it’s the same routine as mine to open, if it looks like a stealth bomber it’s the new type with the easy access panel.

The battery indicator stays orange while charging during sleep,but when I turn it on,the indicator turns white and it shows battery is plugged in not charging and even that goes away after 4 seconds!My charger and adapter work fine!

Stuey3D's Tech,Toys & Gaming That's not it mate!I've gone through some forums in the net and found that many HP laptop owners have faced a similar issue,where the laptop charges only when it is in sleep mode or switched off!One of the members in the forum told me to uninstall the Microsoft battery drivers and update the BIOS!It actually worked and my laptop is now fine!But it has been reported that there might be a chance for this problem to arise again!It's definitely an issue HP has been getting away with!
Ahh not a problem ive encountered as I installed a clean version of windows direct from microsoft a week after I got the machine so I didnt have the tainted drivers.

Dunno I have no way of testing M.2 temps I'm afraid, however it works well so I don't imagine its cooking itself

A SanDisk 128GB SATA speed drive, although the M.2 slot can accommodate NVME drives as far as I'm aware

Hi, I've had this laptop for almost three years now and it still runs flawlessly except when I want to record gameplay for youtube, the game itself doesn't lag too much but the recording comes out all laggy. Do you think doing this would fix that problem or is my laptop too old now??

Oscar and Boe nope no processor or GPU upgrades I’m afraid, I don’t think I’ve ever known a laptop that you can upgrade the CPU in.
HQ cpus are soldered, so they can't be upgraded without a heatgun and rambo tactics. I replaced a bios chip on an acer v3-571 and that was already horrible so I don't even want to know how replacing the cpu would go.
Last series of mobile cpus from intel you could upgrade was haswell. MQ and QM, and if I recall correctly M processors could be upgraded in most systems provided they weren't soldered like for example in the lenovo x210 or x220 laptops.
My Acers with 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen i cpus can be upgraded to better cpus on those sockets. So could my old turion x2 Hp laptop and my core 2 duo based HP 6510b. Newer laptops are designed to be bullshi... thinner and have soldered cpus (sometimes RAM and ssds,) to save space.
Can someone give me some advice? I have a Omen 15 2017 model. I spilled some beer on the keyboard in the area of the number keyboard and backspace key. I tried to turn it upside down, unplug it and let it dry out over night. It's been over a week and everything seems to work ok but right side of the keyboard area from the number pad area all the way down to the Intel sticker is FAR hotter to the touch than the left side of the keyboard. Is there anything further that I should do? IDK if it has always been this way or not...any advice is appreciated!
Rami Agonistes number pad is always toasty under load, the processor and GPU are directly underneath it.

learpic yeah I know the one you mean, I’ve not seen one in person to dismantle it so I can’t help I’m afraid.
The only reason I know how to dismantle this one is because I own it and needed to upgrade it.
If it’s anything like the Dell 7567 and other similar laptops it should be a simple case of gently pry the bezel off remove 4 screws and the connector at the bottom, however if I recall correctly the 2015 model had a touchscreen too so it might not be that simple.

Great video, I just bought the hp omen 15-ax203na. It has no ssd drive, pretty sure it is the same as your model just without the ssd. Looking to get the Samsung 960 or 961 256gb put in to help with video editing. Will probably upgrade the ram to 16gb now i have seen this video. Look forward to some more vids on this laptop. 👍
MX#133 yeah the 203 is just the John Lewis special of mine, I’m pretty certain it will have an SSD slot but open it up and check if you really wanna 100% sure.

Well its not blown up yet so I imagine its ok. Also MX#133 I'm certain I replied yesterday but its not showing but I'm pretty certain the 203 is the same as my 202 just minus the SSD, I'm pretty certain you'll have the slot ready to take an SSD but if you wanna be 100% sure open it up and check.

Not sure I'm afraid, the temps of the laptop are very decent though so not a big issue.

Max temps ive seen are around 82c on the CPU & 75c on the GPU at full load, both fans are running.

You have no idea how useful this video was in 2019 thanks mate these buggers were not made to be open , if I knew this about the omens I would have never touched these Laptops lesson learned p.s I also hairline cracked my USB port nothing really you can do about it prying it open
JustQuestOz it gets easier the more you do it, I’ve opened mine up a few times now to clean the fans as the slightest bit of dust on them makes the temps skyrocket. Mine has loosened up considerably so it’s much easier.

4TB I doubt will fit, they are physically thicker than the 2TB drives.
I'm doing OK I had to open the laptop up the other day to hoover it out as it was thermal throttling, looks like the cooling mat blew some shit into the system which clogged it up. Hoovered it out and all is fine now.
Undervolted it today dropped the cores by 0.125V and now dropped the temps by 12c so under full load it gets to mid 70's now which is awesome.

YamiBeats •Whatever I Want• you can’t see it in this video as it’s under the heat pipes but both GPU & CPU are directly under the number pad side of the keyboard as that’s where it gets hottest when gaming.
