Hey. Just have to tell you guys how much I love your channel. By far it is my favorite outdoor channel with the best camerawork, editing, and content. But more than that you have inspired me. Since finding this channel I have gotten out more these past two years than in my whole life combined. You’ve inspired me to tackle bigger trips and more miles than I thought possible. Just got back from doing Buckskin Gulch in a day complete with the 15 mile bike ride to top it off. It was epic and awesome! I never would have thought to do that if not for your channel. I’ve also summited more than 20 peaks since finding you. Keep the great content coming. You’ve provided me with a long list of trips to try. Thanks a ton!
Used to live/work here. Awesome that y'all did an alternate route! I myself once did Jeff Davis and Wheeler from the Lehman Caves Visitor Center. What a slog that was!
Great Basin NP is such an awesome place to visit. One of my favorite hikes that I've done was hiking up to the bristlecones and rock glacier there. I'd love to summit Wheeler peak one day.Great video as always!
Wheeler Peak is definitely underrated! From the wandering through the ancient bristlecones up the Confederate Mountain and up a great ridge. A little longer access in winter, though. Nice job!
One of my favorite parks, mainly because it is one of the least visited. Even on a Saturday its not too busy. Weeler Peak always beat me up though. Love it.
I found this channel recently and have now watched almost all your videos. They're amazing. So entertaining and inspirational. Keep on trucking Danny and co, you guys are brilliant
Just hiked wheeler in August and it was amazing. The park was isolated and not many people. I took the normal route and it was just incredible! You guys are amazing I wish I would’ve taken this route! Looked fun.
"That's one of the benefits of having low expectations all of the time. Things can just turn out great. And then it's awesome." Pretty much sums up the formula of this channel: 1. Go somewhere awesome. 2. Do something awesome. 3. Complain most of the time. This guy takes the mantra I learned in the Army and literally runs with it. 'Expect the worst and then anything that happens better is bonus." It might not be the greatest philosophy for balanced mental health in life. But it does help you get through tough challenges!
Thanks for sharing your journey up Wheeler! I do lots of sasquatch research, mostly in Utah, but suspected they were up there on my way back from Oregon 9/18. Sure enough, sign ( wood structures) all the way up along the creek (off trail) from the campground to the lakes. Made my day! In your adventures if you hear wood knocks, whoops, screams, or rock throwing, that's what your dealing with.
wearing them under means you create this huge wind gap. no reason to have that gap. plus the beanie doesn't squeeze the temples of your glasses against your head. also needlessly uncomfortable!
Just finding this channel, would that 'Christof' be the Canadian that owns several Gyms? Or just a common coincidence of names? The Christof I mention is no nonsense about one's physical well being and a source of information that is growing stronger with time and research by many. Relative to the 2020-2022 bug that destroyed economies! Thanks, beautiful Scenery!
The crown jewel is the Bristlecone pine their close to 5000 years old or the cave. Their are lots of peaks in the U.S. That really don't seem to safe either.
Wear your glasses under the cap. Otherwise, they will crash on the ground after your first good jolt. On the other hand, if you aren't worried about losing your pol. glasses, and enjoy upgrading your shades frequently, then do what looks cool to you. Besides, asking your wife for new shades every birthday and Christmas will make her shopping for you a breeze.
We just did Jeff Davis last weekend as an out and back from the Wheeler summit and main Wheeler trail. We toyed with doing this route, but opted against it to prevent erosion and preserve the Bristlecone pines since there was no snow covering the ground. It's cool to see some things I've done show up on this channel.
Cool video, guys! This video inspired me to hike it on Labor Day, but I hiked it up and down on the main trail instead of hitting Jeff Davis peak. It was a pretty smoky view from the top, so I didn't have it as good as you guys did view-wise, but at least I didn't smell any smoke and my breathing was not impacted. There are some pretty impressive rock-wall shelters at the top. One had walls that were about six feet high.
That one is on my list. Visited Great Basin NP in June a couple years ago, and I don't think there was one trail that didn't have snow haha BTW, love the animation you do with the map and route you take
Although I favor the Ski-Mtnr'ing episodes, I have rallied my addiction to this channel to include the ridge runs. You guys are such great athletes! Danny: would you ever set up a course (more money!) on your video setup? Gear, hardware, editing, scripting, music, yadahyadah...you have some skills there that the common guy can learn from. Hope you concur. and of course, More MA!!! and more Christof !
I LOVE these videos! I've been working two week rotations on the north coast and these keep me in the mindset for my two weeks off. Let me know if you plan any Alaska adventures, and keep them coming!
That anybody would give you guys a thumbs down is totally idiotic to me. I really like this channel and enjoy your videography and editing. Keep it up! Don’t know why you don’t have 1MM subscribers! You will is my guess.
We can watch another exciting adventure yet enjoy the fact that we are in a structure that has 1) no wind, 2) foods of various tastes, calories and preparations at our beck and call, 3) hot running water and central heating as well as 4) never having to worry about fashion versus function in relation to a beanie. Would it be safer in high winds to keep the glasses anchored under a beanie? Or would the beanie be torn off if not bracketed by the glasses. Chicken or the egg. Hmmm.
Gonna try to hit this peak towards the end of November is the weather is alright! Nice vid, you guys had a gorgeous day for a summit. Do you have the .gpx track for this?
Really interested in the route you took. Is there more info about it that you have? Seems like a much more fun way to summit Wheeler. Do y’all usually go by known routes (even if less traveled) or do you just look at a topo and hope you don’t get cliffed? And I wish you’d bring back the end of day stats at the end of the video like you used to do! It puts it in a little better perspective since the videos are very condensed.
@@MediocreAmateur We skied off the top of Wheeler down through the bristlecone grove in 2017. Its a big beautiful line through that amphitheater with sweet chutes at the top and bottom. I've hiked your route also, counter clockwise. Be glad those boulders were frozen on Jeff Davis! We rode them as they rolled and shifted, in the dark, with a nice bushwhack at the end. It was character building. Glorious views, Good job!
Yeah definitely way past time to rename Jeff "traitor in chief" Davis peak. Hell, probably should rename Wheeler too. All these peaks had names way before the Spanish, French or Americans showed up.
How in the hell did that look "boring" to you? You can tell from a distance that mountain range is awesome, not sure where you're from but you sound pretty snobbish with that take.

Awesome! That's what we like to hear. Let us know if we're overlooking any great summits. Thanks again for watching.
@@MediocreAmateur Highly recommend Wetterhorn in the San Juans
This park is known for having the darkest night skies anywhere in the country. Best star watching and zero light pollution.
Congratulations on a great route!
Ngl Christof that was a pretty wicked gate hurdle at the beginning

Hope you went through the bristlecone grove. That’s the coolest part of that hike.
have you seen Patagonia's new film treeline? First section is about the bristlecone grove. So cool
This reminds me quite a bit of Ellingwood Ridge on La Plata.
Glasses under beanie.
Great work, guys! Hope to get back there some day to challenge myself on this hike. Really insightful/helpful comments!
Glasses over, guide style, but usually with straps. Otherwise under. Own it :)
Beautiful trip and nice edit, thanks!
according to my daughters its cringe to wear them over. apparently we are dinosaurs

Glasses go under the beany otherwise you would have to take them of every you take it off
@@themeatpopsicle Then the beanie is to tight
Glasses under, over the top looks like an alien without ears! But I'm old school. Up on the mountain I say what ever works!
Funny to see Jeff Davis peak on the map as it’s now Doso Doyabi. The boys should do a do over and call it a new summit victory.
Maybe the truth is in the middle. Glasses half under half over.
Wow! What an amazing adventure. Thank you for taking us along. 👍🏻
Christoph with the man-prees
Under the beanie for sure
Absolutely! Not even a question
Over you mean? Going 30km/h downhill in -10 degrees celsius, there is no alternative. If you like having ears that is. 😎
