I have the 3Gnx and it's amazing! Sound quality fabulous, easy to program, looper, drums, every pedal you can imagine and 7 effects in a chain. Wow. I got this and started selling my pedals. I take it to gigs and plug it directly into the PA - it's my amp now also! In fairness, you're trying the presets which mostly stink. I have made my own patches which I love! With delays, I have created Shimmers and all kinds of things.
I bought my G1Xon about two years ago, and I'm still having fun with it. Great product, especially for the price. It can actually sound good in front of an amp, you just have to turn off the amp/cab sim.
Great Video, very applicable to me.... I LOVED my G1on, so much so I upgraded to the G3Xn. That was a big mistake, the bang for buck is just not there compared with the G1on. The Quality of effects seems a step backwards, with many blank spaces with no effects at all. The LEAST they should have done was to have kept all the effects from the G1on? Then there is a lack of community, support, interest and online effects for the G3Xn As SOON as I bought it I contacted Zoom but got no reply...... I guess to get the best upgrade results I should have went directly to the G5n I use my G3Xn everyday, it's a great tool, but I would go for the G5n
With reference to 3:40, the USB on G1on/X has two functions[1] it can used to power the unit via a computer or a mobile battery bank and [2] it can be used to connect to a computer to edit, rearrange, and rename patches (and much more) via a third party software (ToneLib). This is similar to Guitar Lab 3.0 software, which unfortunately is not compatible with G1on/X. When connected to a computer, both [1] and [2] functions happen concurrently.
I use my G1on every day. I used to use it as a direct recording into my soundcard on my pc before I got an interface. It even has cab sims :) Works fabulous like that and no latency believe it or not :) I've used it with tons of different amps too. The only difference seems to be is how the drums come out. Guitar sounds seem to be very consistent regardless of the amp.
I have had my G1Xon since March and love it!!!!! He says don't run it through your amp but with a little tweeking I do run mine through a Blackstar ID Core 10 and I love the tones I am getting.
Running these through the effects loop of a flat response amp (Peavey Bandit 112) makes it sound amazing. The 12" really makes it sound more full and pushes that air.
I still use the G1Xon in my rehearsal-live pedalboard, in a slot of my swhitcher (so that I can leave it off the chain most of the time). Not for the drives or ampsims, but for some fx I do not have in regular dedicated pedals (whammy, tremolos, octavers, some extra delays when in order to avoid changing my regular delay pedal's settings etc.)
My next plan is to combine this with an inexpensive Fender acoustasonic $199 40 watt amp where I can sing through one channel and play this multi-effects pedal and my electric guitar through the other channel and do a live gig with just that and nothing else. I can even switch to an acoustic patch on the zoom and play what sounds like acoustic guitar while I'm singing!
Hi, really useful and extended video. Only a couple if things: I have the G5n, do You think it is good enough compared to the G1 Four? And more, I have read that using it I should turn the "Mic" ( and maybe amp and/or cab ) "off" usin an ampli, just because they are for pc recording or mixer-P.A. gig. Is that true? Thanks for answering.
a comparison between the G3Xn and the old G3X would be awesome. G3X has buttons for page skips which I think is really helpful when using it on live situations
Me too. I’ve also had the zoom 505, and 707 and a couple other brand pedals throughout my guitar playing. I love the g5n, It’s amazing. Multieffect units have come SOOO far since the 90’s
I have the G1Xon because I wanted that wah. turn out I spend 6 month playing with three patches setting and haven't yet used the wah. Edit: and great, now I need to go back and check if adding cab or making sure cab is on make difference in sound.
Top tip about Zoom G1 on....you can power it vias USB. Great device, have one...for the price you get a bit of everything, mini amp, effects, looper, drum machine, metronome and tuner...and it doesent sound bad for what it is...
TIP: For Zoom G1on, G1Xon, MS series users (like me), there is a free app called ToneLib which allows to change FX and patch settings in your pedal through your computer using MIDI commands, very similar to how G3 and G5 work with PC. tonelib.net

The next one to try is the Zoom A3. A viable alternative to the Fishman Aura for live acoustic gigs. No piezo quack! Full warm rounded acoustic tone with a few FX. Nice unit.
with those units i always have problems on drive side but the fx sounded good... i’m past that beginning faze, but i must admit this sounds much better what i had 10 year ago and i envy in that sense new comers in guitar world they’r options on gear... it’s like night and day... hope is the lucky guy on that will inspire to become , to be , the player we will recognise some day! Hiya Henning, ZNR - Zoom Noise Reduction. I loved the comparison of the G1on vs the 505 with your Spanish friend. I picked up a 505 a few years ago at a garage sale for less than £10 which I used as a travel headphone amp - these new ones are quite an improvement! Oh, and a little piece of Zoom trivia, Trent Reznor apparently used a Zoom straight into the desk to get wicked heavy, machine like guitars.
Oh Henning, this emailadress and your lisp - you just want to keep these units for yourself 😉 Considering modelers and multieffects, would you recommend a Helix or an Axe Fx III?
@@EytschPi42 The mancave is already full with 4 tube amps a Torpedo live , two modeling amps, pedals and a forest of guitars. Sadly Fractal Audio sells only directly. Thank for your opinion.
Zoom multieffects are generally awesome. a). you can power G1on with usb, if I remember correctly, technically usb on that unit serves for firmware updates, it mighi have some hidden features on the usb port like the multistomps (later on this) b). outputs on G1on can be cab-simulated, but you can turn that off in the amp simulation effect, and if you don't use any amp simulation the output is not cab-simulated AFAIK. This is how G3 work and this is how the multistopms work. Generally from what I've seen (i played with most of their products, excepth the new G3n and G5n), the software and effect models are all the same across the whole range, with exception of G3n and G5n where they have upped the quality of amp sims, with some minor changes like the max quantity of effects, which effects and amp models it has onboards, and some additional features like presence of looper and drum machine (TBH: i have A/B compared the my odl G3 and MS50g multistomp, and the effects they share in common to me sound the same on both multieffects). What's really missing from the units, is a dedicated MIDI port. I guess it wouldn't be difficult to add it to their products, given that all their multieffects that I have tested already have MIDI built in the software (G3 uses midi SysEx messages over usb to communicate with the edit software, I guess it's the same for G3n and G5n, I know for sure, that while the multistomps don't have edit software they still have MIDI over USB, as there is a web tool that can be used as editor, and that communicates using midi over usb. Hell, I have built a custom hardware controller to be able to control on which patch I am, and wether my off-screen effects are on or off) I have a couple of zoom multieffects, I have G3(v2) which was my first guitar pedal, and I still use it. I have recently bought the two guitar multistomps (ms50g and ms70cdr) whith which I'm gonna replace my G3 (probably once I rebuild my custom controller to be able to control both of them at once). What I would really like (insert "grab my money" meme here) is effect unit with size, and capabilities of ms50g and ms70cdr stacked one after another with some additional features (so, max 12 effects in chain, fx loop, so I can use 4 cable method, dedicated midi and expression pedal in, so I can control realtime stuff like wah or pitch shifter, maybe a built in looper). Also, IMHO G5 should really have an FX loop. There is space on the back panel for this.
I don’t know ....is the Mooer Blacktruck a better MultiEffect Pedal/Processor? I think yes ...but I am not sure. I got the e-mail right 😜 ....let’s see ....Grüße ✌️
Back in the days I had a Zoom 9000 and later a zoom 1010. It always sounded like pantera, even if I tried to nail to sound of Bon Jovi. But I was happy to have some effects 😉
I’m getting back into guitar with electric after mostly acoustic over the years, but my budget is better than my skill (my Friedman pedal came in the mail today). My youngest daughter was excited about my SG when I got it because I got the one with the “pineapple” on the headstock and put it on, but I don’t think I’ll get her to play regularly or something like this would be good for her. My oldest that played guitar in high school was with me at the music store last weekend and fell in love with a ukulele that wouldn’t be the instrument for these. Of my four daughters these are both the same short height and in the middle of the other two. I do local gigs with G1xon and the sound is very impresive, if you take the time to setting it carefully the patch you can get is at pretty decent level.
I've got a g1Xon myself and I use it in front of my amp. My amp is on a clean setting and I turned the speaker simulation off.

two G1 in chain with their bunch of reverbs and delays make for a really low cost high quality ambient rack.
go to "vincent ryan borres" here on YT for some serious setup tweaking of the G1 series.
btw theres tweaking necessary but my vintage marshall and fender combos do really well with the two G1 in front.
just use the G1 as a booster which pushes the amps drive for heavy stuff.
cheers!
Damn, this email f*ck me up! I know what it os but I just don't know if its "oo" "ou" or if you had capital letters.. Dang I want the g3n soooooo bad
U yes, OU no
Capital letters don’t matter in an email
Well.. I dont know how did you write this email but i cant figuring that out. But I'm pretty sure of the pronouncement.. good luck
Django said it all...
Zoom G3 very good.👍
ok so i tried 35 different ways of spelling that email dont even know which one was correct :)
ZNR is zoom noise reduction
pretty cool machines
Would anyone gig with one of these?
BTW I have a bass pedal from zoom and it sounds good to me but I wonder about live settings
I do local gigs with G1xon and the sound is very impresive, if you take the time to setting it carefully the patch you can get is at pretty decent level.
Ok, so if I say I'm 2,15 meters tall and I say the tallest participant is 2,15 meters tall, I suppose I win (? 😅😂
