Kickstarter to Digitally Erase the Rat From the End of The Departed

- This is a real Kickstarter project that Warner Bros Entertainment Inc. determined was an infringement on their copyright.
To comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), Kickstarter was forced to take down the project, so I'm uploading the pitch video here.

I realize this was a joke, however many people take issue with the rat in the end, which is ridiculous. The rat the central theme of the movie, so the notion that this was a blatant reveal of symbolism is not only painfully stupid, it's incorrect. The hidden symbolism pertains to the golden dome of the state house behind the rat. If the director just panned out the window to the golden dome without the rat, it would be so blatant and cheesy, besides the rat being there is necessary for the purpose of showing it's obliviousness to what's really going on.
If there wasn’t a rat… and this guy was complaining there was no rat… you’d then try to comment that putting a rat at the end of the film was a bad idea :P

I only recently found out some people had a problem with the rat at the end being "too obvious"?? what, it's an iconic image to end a great film with a great soundtrack playing over it, who cares if it's obvious or not? not everything has to be subtle, some things are just meant to be memorable and that final image of the rat walking across the screen was sure one of them

I'm sure the courts will accept that argument. I guess "it's a joke" justifies copying an entire movie and digitally altering it without consent of the original producer, then distributing the edited movie to people. Good to know!
He also asked for money on kickstarter for this totally not real epic joke man. Yeah, you're a fucking fool and he's probably run off with your money.

fyi the rat is obvious but not in the way you think. its a powerful image because scorcese is overlaying the rat on symbols of government. apparently an apartment doesnt even exist in that location. the movie is a kind of character study on egos run amok with Frank as ultimate example. Frank: " I dont want to be a product of my environment, I want my environment to be a product of me."
(Frank even does a rat impression at some point)
Matt damons character represents the natural inclination towards politics for these types who would sell their soul for power.
the image of the rat isnt just a symbol for "ratting someone out", it is a symbol for the beast nature in us humans and all systems of power & control.
lets give a little more credit to scorcese , the man that directed last temptation of christ
Jesse Imagine how much more people would appreciate Scorsese et al. if they paid more attention and gave the benefit of the doubt. Also, the rat was in the original (academy award winning) screenplay rather than Scorsese's invention.
When i first saw it in theatres, I thought it didn't compare favorably with Donnie Brascoe. After rewatching some 20 times, it's my fav film (not just of Scorsese's). Every rewatching i notice something new. And the themes, like how the departed live on and their impact on in the living, are timeless and powerful.
Lol I wholeheartedly support this. From a clever joke to reality (or to still keep it a joke). This editing job will keep the movie consistent as a “show don’t tell” work of art, unhindered by a lousy ending.

Even if he had accomplished his goal and gotten away with selling bootleg copies, Warner Bros. would have still been on his ass for selling a bootleg copy of the movie and would possibly have faced criminal charges. Those FBI warnings at the beginning of discs aren't there for nothing.

As long as both parties agree that the end result is a bootleg and an original copy of the movie was bought there should be no legal ramifications.
