Their success in US came unexpectedly even for them. Their success was not based of viral song, but years of climbing the billboard chart and building a big fanbase.
Actually it's common for kpop groups to use social media in various forms. The reason they won the top social media award is probably beacuse of their dedicated fanbase. I personally started to listen to others groups before getting to know BTS like GOT7, EXO and some other groups. The reason I ended up being an army is because of their meaningful lyrics, their history, the interesting contrast between their voices and of course their personalities. I've watched lot's of kpop groups beside BTS but no one has been as chaotic and hilarious as them. I fell hard for their personalities and the genuine love they have for each other. I just think armys are madly in love with their personalities, talent and message. I personally belive that armys are extra dedicated because of their message. It feels meaningful to support BTS beacause their lyrics help lot's of people with their mental health.
I thing BTS got more popular in the west first at all bc of their music they use diff sounds and that can attract more people and definitely social platforms help but every kpop group use it as well but haven’t get the same result as BTS p.d. sorry for my English

I'm Latina and I'm a translator and learn Korean as part of my job and pronunciation was super easy for me. I have heard from other Latinos that have learned korean that it's the same for them.

The only reason superM made it on the billboard chart is because their company payed their way in. They sold over 60 kinds of bundles so fans would receive free albums with every merch product they bought. They also purposely only debuted in America and not Korea for this reason. So fans worldwide would buy their 8 version albums by having the company import them from an American address and still have the numbers count towards the American billboards. It was a sneaky and disingenuous tactic.

Maybe it's because they've also had to try and spread their crafts around the world and have also faced prejudice while doing so. Plus many can speak Spanish and English so they just seem more open to languages not their own to begin with. I rarely hear comments about BTS singing in Korean and complaints that they can't understand from Latino people when they react. It's just nice. Latino people just seem more open to other cultures sometimes than Caucasian people and that's coming from a Caucasian person.
